Johnson" Subject: Respect for musicians and roadies I just helped with a concert (Indigo Girls, if you wanted to know), and I have gained respect for all the people involved in touring. For one thing, they have to work really hard (alot harder than I had previously thought). The musicians have to perform and everything, and the roadies (or technical crew, if you want to be politically correct, but then again, we are talking about roadies, who aren't usually what I would call politically correct, at least the one's I met :o) ) have to set up everything (and it is alot) really quickly and tear it down even quicker, without breaking anything (well, not much anyways), all the while, dealing with people that the location provides to help, which in my case, have very little clue about what's going on. On top of that, they have to do it on very little sleep. And the sleep they do get is in a truck or a bus, and isn't really the restful, refreshing sleep that one needs. I guess what I am saying, is that we should all be a bit more understanding of these people. Touring ain't as easy as it seems. (and I just helped for one night). Just my thoughts. I hope everyone has a happy holiday season and a great day! He would have said it if she was standing on stage with him. Take this case: Immediately after Mariah Carey was given her 3rd and 4th award (or was it her 33rd and 34th?), Spade made the obvious comment that Billboard was going to keep on give Mariah awards until her dress fell off. I found this hilarious. First, because it seemed as if she won every other award, and second, because she really was very much falling out of her dress and needed to do something about it. Mariah's got more clout that Jewel, and Spade hit her with the obvious spade. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Dec 1997 22:16:15 -1000 (HST) From: dcpajm@lava.net (Beck Shak A Lak Fishbone) Subject: Re: Jewel dissed by D.S. >make sense, but david spade is silly, did you watch tommy boy, that movie >cracks me up, just thinking about it makes me go hahahahaha ha david spade is my favorite actor! does anyone besides me notice a resemblence between hin and musician Beck Hansen? uncanny, isn't it? anyway, i missed the show....what exactly did he SAY about jewel? - --jennie, the surfing angel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Dec 1997 02:23:27 -0500 (EST) From: Joseph Chou Subject: Re: Future Folklore (NJC) Hi, everyone, can someone please tell me more about FF #1 and #2?? You are allowed to vote 4 times per phone number so I used 3 different numbers and cast 12 votes! If we all cast our votes maybe she will win and we can look forward to seeing lots of Jewel goodies on VH-1 (here's hopin'). By the way Paul McCartney is in the lead so Jewel desperately needs the votes. Well maybe not desperately, but what's it gonna hurt...really? :-) Tony Glass This is my first post to the list...hope it works. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Dec 1997 14:25:39 EST From: Icicle TA Subject: Jewel on a Christmas cd Hello Angels: Ahhhhh.....(<---Karyn's "I'm done with finals sigh") I was just at the Nature Co. in the mall in Austin and I was previewing some of their Cd's. They have this really neat, 'scan the cd you want to listen to' thing...Anyway, They had a bunch of Christmas music cd's and Jewel is on one of them. The cd is called something like "Fire, Ice, and Storm" or "Ice, Snow, and Fire"...something like that. The song is "Angel Standing By" and I'm 99% sure it's the POY version. I thought it was pretty cool. I almost bought it but it was around $13 and I didn't even start X-mas shopping. Speaking of which, I'm going to do now........ I think I remember how to do this posting thing! ;-) Anyways... just wanted to tell ya guys about a singer/songwriter from the Philly area named Patty Scoboria. I had the chance to see her perform last Saturday at the Dispensing Company here in Lancaster, and she was just absolutely incredible! Her style and voice kinda reminded me of Melissa Etheridge. At least that's who popped into my mind while I was sitting there listening to her. She's originally from the Reading, PA area, but now calls Philadelphia home. She's currently touring the Lancaster/Reading/Philly bar and club scene trying to get recognition and build a fan base. She performs mostly covers, but has written about 10 originals, some of which she performs, and a few of which are out on an EP that she sells at her shows. She's also going to be appearing on a local cable-tv special in the Poconos area (I don't remember the exact air date offhand), so if anyone's from that area... if ya happen to see it... let me know!! :-) So, anyone from the southeastern PA area... if ya get the chance to see Patty perform... definitely do it... you'll be in for an enjoyable 3 hours!! Anyone interested in a schedule can contact her by email at PScoboria@aol.com. She also has a mailing list that you can sign up for at her shows. Selena- she mentioned that she knew you, and has been trying to get in touch with you, but lost your email address. Hey all you EDA's, after almost 20 months of this stuff, I'm going to have to switch to news only. I'm transferring consulting gigs, and won't have the luxury of an e-mail feed at my desk (nor the luxury of a client willing to pay for e-mail time :) I'll miss all the interesting talks that have on in this list, and even the ramblings and flame-wars. You've all been wonderful, and I really enjoyed meeting those of you whom I've met. I'll try to keep up with things on the news-only list, but there's no way that I can deal with the volume that occurs even on the moderated list. To all of you, thanks for the enlightenment! Love You All Till I Split Open And Melt, Lora ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Dec 1997 19:19:28 EST From: MAXMOUZE Subject: Title Differences I'm working on a Jewel lyric booklet for myself, and I was wondering if anyone could help me the absolute, 100% correct titles of some of Jewel's songs. Also, "If This Is What Love Is" is not on the Lyrics Archive, but it is on the list on PIECES OF JEWEL. Does anyone have the lyrics to this??? Moving on...here ya go. << 1,000 Miles Away >> Everyone calls it 1,000 Miles Away but that would be pronounced "One-Thousand Miles Away" and Jewel sings it "A Thousand Miles Away". So, wouldn't it be "A Thousand Miles Away"? << ABCD (All Of The Above) >> Is this the whole title, or two different titles that people can't agree on the answer? I know, technically, this isn't a song and it doesn't have a title, so is the whole thing ABCD (All Of The Above)? << (Never Trust Your Pink Fleshy Heart To A) Carnivore (Asshole) >> What is up with this asshole in parenthesis? I don't think Never Trust Your Pink Fleshy Heart To A should be part of the title? Sometimes she says that's the title before singing it, so she can mention that it was advice she got when she was younger. But, I think she just wants to keep it "Carnivore". << Everything Breaks Sometime >> I have also seen "Everything Breaks". I like "EBS"...which is the official title, does anyone know? << My Own Private God's Gift to Women >> Or is it "God's Gift To Women"? "GGTW" was all that was on Save The Linoleum, which is something Jewel overlooked. I think My Own Private was guessed by the makers of Angelfood. << Just Passing Time >> Jewel said it was "Passing Time", without the Just. << Home Again (aka Let Them In) >> I thought "Let Them In" was the official title. Who came up with "Home Again"? << The Little Bird >> Or is "Little Bird Song" or "The Little Bird Song", etc.? << Mamma's Little Hero >> Mama's is spelled without two m's in the middle. Or, are the two m's the way Jewel wanted it to be? << Poem Song (Wild Horses) >> Is Wild Horses part of the title or is it the incorrect title first guessed? << Sassy >> Or is it "See Sassy"? << Swedish Song (Wolf & Dolphin) >> I know Wolf & Dolphin is the name of the translation, but should that be part of the title? << Circle Song (With You I Will Always Be) >> Is "With You I Will Always Be" the guessed title? If so, why is it still listed? << Face of Love >> Or, is it "The Face of Love"? << Making Me Blue >> Isn't the correct title "My Body Is Changing"? << My Fish Family >> Or is it just "Fish Family"? If you can add any input to any of the above or can provide the lyrics to "If Love Is Like This", please do so by e-mailing me PRIVATELY at Maxmouze@aol.com Take care and God bless...
