I rushed home today to make sure I had a tape in my VCR to record it. Then she never showed. Needless to say, it really pissed me off. I was woundering if she was originally supposed to be on but decided not to, or what? I would like to know what happened. Oh, and the comment that David Spade made about Jewel, I think it was kinda mean to say, but at least it shows that she is famous enough to be mentioned on a show that she didn't even win anything on. James Reach & myself would like to get some sort of gathering planned beforehand, and this is the best way to do it. If you can please E-MAIL me the following information... Your name or whatever When you're coming into town Where you're staying Whether or not you're attending the actual show or not And anything else you think would be interesting. :) Thanks alot everyone and I'll get back to you as soon as something is concrete. Once again, PLEASE E-MAIL me the information above as I do not subscribe to the actual list, and won't get it if you post it to the list seeing as how I'm on News-Only. Thanks everyone, and see you soon!!!! :) Also, just so everyone knows I *AM* going to the concert after all, my ex- boyfriend bought me a ticket for my Christmas present. :) Lucky me... It is the press that is pressing that piece of her. CP>Bad call David Spade, CP>Matt Adler This is a very valid point. I remember way back when (before the American Music Awards) when Jewel mentioned living in a van, and how blessed she felt now because she didn't have to steal food anymore, but I haven't heard her say anything about being homeless, unless someone else brings it up. Jewel hasn't been redundant in saying she use to live in her van; the media has. (It is now untitled, but we'll think of a name later). We are aiming for the infamous Java Joes as a location, and the date will be January 4th, 1998. The gathering will be a place for EDAs to hang while they are in town because of the New Years Eve concert. But, entertainment will also be provided -- the first ever EDA music video to "Angel Needs A Ride" will be cast and filmed that day. Everybody attending can have a part in it, if they'd like (I will explain the plot of the video to those attending PRIVATELY). Later in the day will be the actual gathering at Java Joes, and after everybody has had a chance to get situated, there will be the first ever EDA concert. EDAs will sing covers of Jewel songs live. These songs will be used on the second EDA cover tape (which is in the works) OR on a new type of Angelfood which consists of live performances by the EDAs. This can happen if enough people record their performances and like it (If you would like to perform a song or two without being recorded, that is fine. We will have an open mic session). A lot of people are upset because they can't get to California and want a gathering in their area. Well, the cool thing is, this gives these people an opportunity to organize their own gathering. And, if you can, include an EDA concert in it and record selected songs. Then, they can be submitted for the cover tape (or, maybe a cover tape of live EDA performances). I am hoping someone in New York offers to arrange one, as a lot of people from that area have shown interest. We are also going to keep track of a carpool list. If you are coming from out of town and can take some other people in your car, tell us and we'll add you to the list. If you are an Angel who Needs A Ride, then we can note this too. And, if you are just attending, please give us your name as well. Also, if you are interested in performing either in the concert or the music video, please tell me this too. Thanks, and I hope some of you guys can make it. =) Mm__) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Dec 1997 01:57:28 EST From: MAXMOUZE Subject: Re: Jewel's music type Jewel is considered "folk rock". I think I actually watched about 20 minutes of it. Metallica did a good performance. I thought Puffy being in 3 of the 4 nominations for Rap was totally ridiculous. And did they even have a Best Male or Female Artist category? I don't think so. What categories COULD Jewel have been nominated for then? I mean, besides the one she was...contemporary artist. Yeah. Like she's "contemporary". I think that was a bad category to place her in. I think of Yanni, and John Tesh when I think of Contemporary. She should have been in a Pop/Rock category...which they didn't have either. I think there was rap, r&b, country, jazz, contemporary, rock group, modern rock group, artist, album, and a couple other pointelss ones. No Best New Artist, no Best Female Artist, AND Jamiraqui wasn't on there as the TV guide said he's be. BIG mistake in the prgramming aspect. They were using him to plug the show more or less. They never said Jewel would perform, so that didn't surprise me. I think the joke at the beginning was an example of a bad write desperately trying to find something that most people would know of, and try to make it sound funny...but it came across as being only sarcastic to me. As did many other jokes. I'm surpised Dave didn't crack a Diana joke. Wouldn't have surprised me. Overall, a sad representation of an awards show. I did think LeAnn sang well, but her a Metallica were just a few of the better moments. Yet the worst part was when my roommates all laughed and made fun of Jewel right infront of me knowing how I feel. You see, I become attatched to certain songs that have meaning to me. I remember during my high school graduation hearing You Were Meant For Me, and I felt a connection I'm sure most feel when they go away to college for the first time. I also feel that her songs can mean the death of relationships and the pain that follows of simple denial. I hear her songs and memories consume me. I don't understand why people joke about someone they don't truly know. I don't claim to know Jewel at all personally but how can someone judge and make fun of someone without knowing the reason why? Perhaps it's a feeling of jealousy and a sense of wanting superiority that causes one to do that. I saw Jewel perform at the Lillith Fair at the Marcus Amphitheatre in Milwaukee on 9-19-97, the day before this video was supposedly shot. I'm wondering if this is just a mistake in labelling & the video's actually from 9-19-97 in Milowaukee, or if the labelling is correct and Jewel actually did play in that city on 9-20-97. I e-mailed the guy & he said he got the info. straight from the person who actually filmed it, so he's assuming the labelling is correct. Can anybody help me out with this?
