I had such a great time, and I got such a warm welcome, and a great response. I was kind of intimidated, because I was the only female to perform, but, I realized I could use that to my advantage. It was lots of fun, and I thought of you guys while I was under those lights! Also, I was wondering if anyone could PLEASE help me out, I need J-cards for JewelStock!! And, I was wondering if anyone could PLEASE help me out, I don't have cable, and I wanted to catch The Wizard of Oz with Jewel. Can anyone copy it for me if I send money for a VHS tape, and mailing? I think that it is great that Jewel is flameing people. I mean its not like this list has participated in this one in a while! It sounds to me like you want a Jewel who is caring, loving, understanding, wonderful and dishonest. I think its great that Jewel can have a bad and even stuck up opinion, I mean when has Jewel ever been reclusive, it wasn't that long ago when Jewel was calling Newt Gingrich and asshole and wishing death on Bob Dole and Pat Buchanan, now that she has an opinion on someone whom you all like, you all are questioning Jewels morals like she owes you something, I say we prise Jewel on this! We musta been jet-lagged when we sent it from the 1st Living Room Tour gig in Capistrano Beach...... Here it is again as it should have read. MrBB *********************************** More turkey already! Well, at least I'm finished touring. This year has been so many changes and adjustments but I feel like I'm doing pretty good at my goal of staying me. I hope you are too! (Who else would we be, after all?) That really impresses me in you guys. Really, you are amazing--this whole Thanksgiving weekend you are doing is VERY cool. And how you are with each other, well, I'm proud to have you be my most representative group! Love to you all and happy holiday. Do what you can to ease loneliness and hunger in your own circles. Bye for now, Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 Dec 1997 21:52:49 -0500 From: Alan Roukey Subject: Save this post! An EDA needs you all badly :) Hi Angels! I would like to speak on behalf of another Angel. Her name is Angela. We also know her as BudGoddess@aol.com Angela has told us that the reason she slowed her postings was that she became ill. What she didn't tell you was just how very sick this Angel is. And also what she didn't tell you was just how very important we are to her. So I am going to tell you what she didn't. Angela is a very sweet person. She has lived out the spirit of an EDA as few of us ever will. I am very proud of Angela. At the young age of 15 years old, Angela has reached out to her community. Without fanfare, without reward she has volunteered a large share of her free time at a local homeless shelter. She was helping them get financial aid and feeding them. She also volunteered her time to work at a suicide hot line. She did this in our name, because if you just ask her she will tell you how much she loves us and how proud of us she is. And if you just ask her for Angel Food, she'll do that too. Right now Angela is bed ridden. She has her family, she has her bed, and she has her laptop. And with that laptop, she gets E-mail from us. She prefers our company. You see, she loves us. She can barely get out of bed. Somedays she can't even get to her laptop. And do you know what she did? She asked if she could make Angel Food for us! Imagine that! The weakest and most frail among us wanted to stretch her arms around all 2,000 of us. And we are the strong ones! And Angela is far from healthy. While Angela was working in the shelter she contracted a VERY serious disease. At the very best a person who contracts this disease can expect to be a total care patient for no less the one year. That is the very best. Sadly, so far the news from Angela's doctors are not very encouraging. Angela is VERY, VERY sick. She is the best of us, and she is in the most danger. Do you know what Angela wants out of life? She wants to be an EDA. She wants to tell other Angels how much she loves them. But its our turn. I am asking all of my brother and sister Angels out there to write to Angela. We are the strong ones. And together we can do a lot of good. A few months ago, there were a lot of posts introducing yourselves to the list. If you want to know a fine person, introduce yourself PRIVATELY to Angela. She is more then willing to know you! Give Angela your very best, it will not be squandered! I know Angela, she has a beautiful heart of gold. Other's can send her electronic flowers, candy, cards, arts, crafts, whatever you're into. Angela will appreciate it! Some of you have Angel Food. She has done more then enough to get a copy, don't you think? Its time for all 2,000 of us to put our arms around this Angel. It is time for all 2,000 of us to write to Angela. Thank you in advance. You can write to Angela at BudGoddess@aol.com Thank you, Alan Roukey ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 Dec 1997 20:21:47 -0800 From: dunphynm@essex1.com (Nancy Dunphy) Subject: Jewel sites found!!!!!!!! What he says below can be taken as 100% THE truth in this matter. As a matter of fact, I just called and talked to his wife Nancy. EVERYTHING has been taken out of context. People were just joking around - Mike :) From Tom: I hope you all read this and take it to heart. Nothing happened. Lisa Sanders just called Nancy and would like me to relay this message. Jewel did not call anyone pathetic. It seems people took everything out of context. Jewel told Nancy's daughter to shutup kiddingly, giggled and then said she was joking. Kaili took it as a joke and didn't bat an eye. Lisa wants this rumor stopped right away and out of consideration for her let's do that. In the past and now it means truly or certainly. In reference to a Christian prayer it does mean I believe. ( like at the end of the priest's prayer the congregation responds by saying I believe ). I hope this puts to rest the argument over the meaning of the word. Vlah) Subject: upon returning home, EDAF TG Well, here I am. Back in frosty Cleveland. and I feel like I'm in a time warp. The last real meal I ate was in Dana Point on Saturday, I woke up in Capistrano Beach yesterday, and I sit here now wondering how many layers will appease my body's adjustment back to the reality that is 33 degrees. But the weather is only a minor adjustment, I just got back from the longest gathering I've ever attended. 9 days. and amazingly enough still luv ya'll. ;) I'm not sure if I want to do the whole detailed account, cuz that could get REAL long. so I'll summarize to the best of my ability... went to LA to dinner at The House of Blues on Sunset Strip. Mia sees no Hollywood sign. this will come up again. Liz, Shelly and I went to Tijuana ("getting saucy with the Tweekers in TJ") and spent lots of money and hustled with the best of 'm. well, tried. Got to see Elizabeth Hummel that night, had coffee at the Claire De Lune, and through a strange series of events met some interesting characters... Went to a cyber cafe opened by a bunch of grads from my university in Venice Beach, that was cool. :) went back to the Beverly Hills, sunset strip area. STILL NO HOLLYWOOD SIGN. it at this point that I am convinced it does not exist. It doesn't. I don't care how many of you have seen it. It DOES NOT EXIST, all ya'll are trippin on something and I want some. so anyhow... It's wednesday now. Got to see Stevie. what a cutie. That city SHUTS DOWN when it rains, ya'd think the sky itself was falling. Time for the Living Room Tour. Elizabeth was AbFab of course. Johnny Castro was too cute with his shyness and so good all solo! And I got to hear Gregory finally. blown away. a great show! Thursday... went to the shelter. We learned alot for future endevors and many of us had a great experience there. Then there's Denny's and the Innerchange. and yes, there was hair washed (you freaks!;) Friday... oh geee, I'm not sure I feel like describing what happened that afternoon. Has anyone yet? I think I'll let that to someone else. like Lora and Natalie and Kaili, you guys go for it,I think you'll do it justice. It was too crazy. 'Gak' RANDOM. so, Friday night... well, I know tons of people have already said what happened... Lisa Sanders is a goddess, phenomenal, very few artists can bring me tears. 'Rainbow' and 'pride and joy'. wow. Tara. AbFab OF COURSE as usual. She did the coolest thing with 'Jordan'/ she sung a hymm that her and her sister used to sing together all the time and then went right into the song. she mentioned hoping to get her sis to sing it with her for the album, how cool would THAT be? So, Dennis should tell this cuz he experienced it, but I'll ramble it anyway... I guess that while Tara was onstage people were running in and across the street, etc... thinking that Jewel was there and ended up going in and being amazed by Tara! Now from a distance I guess I can see where people would think it was Jewel since she's known to show up there, I think that's kinda fun, that they ran thinking it was J and then being intro'd to new awesome artist! YEAH! So that's kinda fun, and well after that it WAS Jewel. a bunch of totally new stuff that no one had heard save those who had the pleasure of the European shows. and she did her best to remember 'Jessica'. then it was time for Elizabeth (with some great new dolcimer stuff!!!) and Gregory again. Everyone on stage was amazed by the fact that we traveled from near and far and we were asked 'where from?' from stage several times. It was an amazing show! and the best part was sharing it with so many great friends and kindred spirits. and yes, the story is true about Saturday... Liz, Shelly, and I had some beautiful Sarah tickets for Saturday night in LA that we let to the wind and chose to spend our last night at Java Joes with the gang and Joy Eden Harrison and Cindy Lee Barryhill. You'd have to be there to understand how difficult it would have been to say goodbye early so we didn't and I'm glad to have had the extra time with everyone! That brings me back to that gods forsaken airport. I'm glad LA was gloomy that day, it was a little less painful to leave. So Liz and I bid Shelly goodbye and sat on our plane and leaving is a little bit easier when its just a shrinking group and you've got someone to fly with. Less of an abrupt end. So at midnight we land in the deserted Toledo airport (late), bid eachother goodbye and its time for the 2 hour drive home curtosy of my bless-his-soul bf who drove all the way out to pick me up. (how lucky am I??) at 2:30am I finally get home. check my e-mail and realize that my tiny dorm room looks very big. and dark. and empty. Silence is a beautiful thing, but I kinda miss being woken up to Dennis "I won't be quiet and you can't make me" Harris' voice. and being attackd by mini-pugs. I mostly miss being randomly hugged by someone just because they felt like hugging you. Tom Proven was blessed with that skill to make you feel all better with just a hug. and Kaili. blah, I'm gonna stop before this gets REALLY long. love to you all. back to catching up on reality. Peace, Mia! ~~~~~ Vale et me ama, Amelia S. Subject: NJC: salutations I'm not sure if you remember me, or if you've tried in vain to forget, well, it's me, Tim Gavin. I'm not dead, I'm just really busy. I learned recently that I'm no longer the only Iowa EDA, and that reminded me that I still have a great, if sometimes altogether too silly, network of friends and various special people across the globe, united by a common goal of nicety, and visions of Jewel fairies dancing in their heads. I'd just like to give a big ol' bear hug to everyone in EDA-land, and I'll try to find time to get back on the list sometime.
