Hey, SparcStations are under I probably shouldn't further this debate any more than it's already gone, and Mike's free to bounce this, of course, but I do think it's about time people stopped screaming "censorship!" everytime someone refuses to help when someone else jumps on a soapbox. Greg's point is completely valid. This list may benefit us all, but only a few people really work hard to keep it going. Sure, the membership contributes content, but as we've gotten bigger, the noise just gets louder. Even if the same ratio of noise to signal is kept, overall discussion can not continue. Just think of this in terms of a room of people. Eventually the din of the rest of the room is enough to drown everyone out. The list has had a remarkable run without intervention. We're now well over a thousand people, though, and there's just too big a stream of posts not to have some restrictions. As stated in the original "cooling off" period, it was hoped people would calm down, and moderate themselves. This clearly hasn't happened. The salient points that could be made had already been made in this Manson thread, and yet people continue to try and get the "last word" on the argument. This isn't discussion, it's bickering. A Moderator is charged with helping ensure the smooth flow of a debate or discussion. Mike's trying to do that. He didn't (and hasn't) blocked topics from any discussion, or even blocked a valid argument. He's blocked a yelling match. The Manson topic may be completely off limits right now, but that's just because, as I said, the arguments have already been made. He didn't intervene until AFTER the arguments were presented. If people can act reasonable, and post less bickering and more discussion, we'll probably see it all pass without bounces. If not, as Greg said, feel free to start your own list. I'll even offer to help you set it up if you need technical advice. :) Ray Wong PO BOX 6163 negativl@best.com, negativl@netcom.com Hayward, CA 94540-6163 Member #11537, Deborah Gibson International Fan Club Co-Founder and Charter Member, Sutton Foster International Fan Club ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Nov 1997 22:26:45 -0500 From: twh662@juno.com (T H) Subject: Lilith PPV Well, I just got done watching and taping it and although the whole show was good, Jewel was slighted in my mind. Of all the performers they showed, Jewel got the least amount of solo time...only 7.5 minutes. Meredith Brooks, 3 songs...16 minutes. Shawn Colvin, 4 songs...20 minutes. Indigo Girls 4 songs...20minutes, although Jewel (and others) contributed to the last two. Jewel, 2 songs (Near You Always, Morning Song)...7.5 minutes. Sheryl Crow, 3 songs...16 minutes. Sarah (the host), 6 songs...31 minutes. And the Finale with everybody, yes Jewel too. (all times approximate). Good Night. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Nov 1997 22:49:53 -0500 From: "O'Neill" Subject: NJC: Ontario Angels Hello everyone!! Okay, I know I said I'd be sending all ya Ontario Angels that info out today, but I didn't have time and I wanted give anyone who hasn't e-mailed me one more chance. So if you live in Ontario and haven't sent me your info, please send me your name, age, e-mail address, where you live, and your other musical interests. Oh, I was also wondering- how come Jewel wasn't nominated for the MTV European Music Awards? It's crazy I tell you... Well, talk to you all later! Thanks, Tasha The Little Angel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Nov 1997 23:53:54 EST From: matthew138@juno.com (Matthew Utter) Subject: JC: wizard of Oz Hey Angels!, I saw a little of the Wizard of Oz and plan to see the whole thing this weekend. I thought Jewel was beautiful and amazing as Dorothy (naturally ;) ) . It would be so awesome if they did it again. Think of how it would be if it were done on a huge stage with a set! I just have one *small* complaint about Jewel's performance: it kind of bothered me a little that she was imitating Judy Garland's voice. Does anybody else agree with me on this? - -the Indigo Angel - - on a side note, I just got A Very Special Christmas. It's pretty good. Best of all, the proceeds are going towards the Special Olympics. The Smashing Pumpkins' song didn't quite live up to my expectations, but it was still good. I especially liked Sheryl Crow's (sp?) rendition of "Blue Christmas." I DEFINITELY think that Jewel should do a track for it next year. She should do a song about angels. That would be so fitting for the album. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Nov 1997 23:11:41 -0800 From: "sisters" Subject: can't we all just get along? We are all here with one common interest, Jewel. I think that we need to focus on that and quite arguing.
