Linda the Incredibly Loveable Angel wrote this : <> Well, let's see. Yes, I remember the TRUE meaning of being an EDA- I like Jewel's music and I joined this mailing list. That's it. That is the true, textbook meaning of being an EDA. The niceness, kindness, and love that often comes along with EDAs is OPTIONAL. God knows that nobody can be nice to everyone all the time. _I_ certainly can't. Now, I wasn't there when this problem that Joe had happened in the room. But I HAVE been there for much bigger arguments, with people screaming obscentites and threatening to kill eachother. But you know what ? This hasn't happened in at least a month. And you know what else ? I still love IRC. It's like bigger version of those great EDA chats we used to have on Thurdsday nights on AOL ( but no strip dice ). PEOPLE are PEOPLE. We are NOT angels. We are allowed to have a bad day, or week, or month, or year. We help others when we can, but being an EDA doesn't mean we should be expected to be perfect. If we were perfect, guys, we would be SO BORING. Joe, seems it me like you were so wrapped up in the idea of everyone gushing over the JEWELry, that it really hurt you when they said they didn't know much about it. But you also need to understand that maybe not everyone is interested in buying it, or wearing it. I'm sure Phil went through the same thing. You said : <> I've been on the list since May or 1996. I went to JewelStock. I've run the Adopt-A-Newbie program for over a year. And you know what ? I probably would have reacted the same exact way those people did in the room that day. Being a veteran has nothing to do with wanting to buy jewelry. As for people having problems with the ways the two rooms are moderated- in #jewel, the room owner pretty much stays out of everything. He lets us work our problems out on our own, and he only steps in for really crucial problems. In #eda, the room owner takes a vote from each of the channel ops registered on the bot every time a decision is made. Majority wins... I guess I'm mostly upset about this because there is no law saying an EDA has to be nice 100% of the time. God knows we have EDAs around here who aren't even nice 10% of the time. IRC is kind of like the list... I'd suggest you sign on... sit in the room, say hi, and then just sit and read and find out what's going on. Find someone in the room who looks knowledgeable (sp ? ) and /msg them any questions you have. If you do this twice, not only will you know a lot more about the IRCers than most newcomers, but you will also gain the respect and appreciation of all the people who go to IRC every day. This is only what _I_ think. I'm sure other IRCers have other ideas... OK, that's allhave a good day, guys ( or a bad day !) I just wanted to give you all an update on what is going on with the South East planning. So far, I have gotten emails from Mississippi, Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Florida, and North Carolina (My home state). So we have an area here. So the NEXT issue is who out of the 2800 some odd edas out there want's to help me PLAN this bubba ;) I have gotten a lot of "let me know when it's planned" and only one or two "Let me know if I can help." I have only been an EDA for about 6 months (if I can remember correctly-I was an eda last year sometime too), so I could really use some help with this thing. I need some input from you seasoned EDAs out there, as well as anyone who wants to help. We have to find a host area--I don't want to arbitrarily declare NC the location, it wouldn't be fair. So if you have a location, email me. We'll try to accomodate as many people as possible. Here's the other thing that you may get excited about. I got an email from an EDA in florida who suggested that we have an eda gathering down there during the Lilith fair special. I personally think this idea kicks butt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But, I won't plan anything without some input from other angels. Please email me and let me know. AS of about 8 pm tonight I am taking my computer for a well needed UPGRADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whoohoooooooo! So I won't be able to send anymore updates until sometime Thursday. Take care angels!! <3 Beth ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Nov 1997 14:05:48 -0500 (EST) From: LoneWolf38@aol.com Subject: Re: Frustration i'm going to be blunt, i am almost ashamed to be associated with some of you at this time. the writer of "Frustrated" had a very good point, although it could have been worded better. He is entirely right in the fact that many of the questions and comments that keep coming up on the list are in the FAQ sent out when you join, or in many of the various Jewel websites. Sure for the most part we agree and support Jewel but occasionally we might disagree with some of her decisions, and say when's that new album coming out ;) Ok and about the one line posts, guys... all I can say is, think before you post and make SURE if it's not something meant to go to the list that jewel@smoe.org isn't in the to: or cc: parts of whatever email program you use (I'm not an expert at AOL someone chime in maybe?) I'm going, and I figured it might be a good opportunity to say hi to anyone else who might be there from our online group. Sister *who*, you say? Sister 7 is an Austin, TX based band with a powerhouse female lead vocalist. Their material is rockier and funkier than a lot of the other artists that get discussed on here, but their tunes are also very melodic and the performance is always tight and exciting. The lead singer in particular is fabulous, sounding a little like Amanda Marshall but with some attitude. They're one of my favorite bands, worth the 90-minute drive for me to see them tonight, so if you're in the area I encourage you to come on out! Showtime is about 10pm I'm told, starting with an opening band. Well, here it is about 3:15pm central time, and I'm shocked that I haven't seen even ONE post today about the Letterman show last night. Aside from the hiliariously funny antics of Richard Simmons (as always), Dave spent a good 5 minutes or so plugging his new CD coming out *today*. It's the "best of" performances from his show in past seasons...and (here's the Jewel content)...he picked one track to play over the air as a sample, and it was...you guessed it...JEWEL! You Were Meant for Me with Flea on Bass. So, if anyone had doubts of Dave being a Jewel fan or not, I think that question is answered. He won the "cool guy" award as far as I'm concerened. He played about 10 seconds of the song last night on the air. So, I just thought this was cool...does anyone have the CD yet? I'm getting mine tonight! It still amazes me that no one has even said anything about this yet....good, up-to-date JEWEL info!!! Go figure.
