My name is Karen, and please don't delete this message. I just thought that since I am new that maybe I could just let you guys know that I am here. I know that this is just another NJC that you all just LOVE so much, but put up with me. Finally I had someone clear a few things with me. Well, I guess I should just tell you the basics. I am 15, and live in Coral Springs, FL. I know someone out there was looking for fellow FLoridians, well here I am. Um, well, I would really appreciate if some of you Angels that have been here for a while would write to me. This way you could tell me about this whole EDA thing. THanks! It says that Jewel "outgrew" Inner Change, where she got her start. If this is true, then it is very disturbing. Many other groups that are in the same "grass roots" genre with Jewel have gone back to the place where they played early gigs, even playing under an assumed name if necessary. The Grateful Dead would use pseudonyms to play their old San Francisco venues. Blues Traveler makes a point to return to Nightengales in New York. Dave Matthews Band and Hootie and the Blowfish always try to play to their old college audiences as much as possible. The underlyimg connection of all these bands (including Jewel into the genre is that they all are basically live bands. They toured long before they hit it big, which is why all of these bands allow and encourage taping. Part of this is that, since they built their following on their live performances, they presumably are devoted to their fans. This is shown by the fact that they are willing to play shows regardless of whether it will probably lose money. If Jewel truly fits with these other bands, she would return to the place where she got her start. Well, enough of my soapbox, I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Mike and I'm from Gainesville, Florida. Several of my friends are also huge Jewel fans, but since they don't have access to computers, I will speak for them, too. We'll call ourselves the KMFJA Angels. Hope to have a lot of fun and meet some nice people. 0: P Thank you, Mike Simkovich ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Oct 1997 07:01:07 -2052 From: Roxy Jones Subject: =) HI PEOPLE!! Hi!! (not that I'm against NJC or anything, but some people seem to be) Today seems to be a good day for Jewel videos. FG is #1 on both the top 10s for VH1 and MTV (I know, it's not news, it was the same last week). And these shows (at least VH1s) ar shown multiple times today. Also WWSYS was on the top 30 90's videos on VH1. (Unfortunately, I missed it. I was at work, but at about that time, I was sending an email to VH1 asking when the best times to catch older videos like WWSYS and YWMFM, kind of ironic). Anyways, both the top 10 shows were ending at the same time so I was flipping back and forth between the two while playing the song on CD (I know, I'm easily amused). Wow, I jsut typed that really fast(and I can never type "Just" for some reason). Now that I've proven that I really have no life what so-ever, I'll think I'll quit. Thanx for putting up with my crazy ramblings. Jay Johnson the equilateral try-angel who's on a sugar/caffeine buzz right now PS (If you can't tell, I love parenthesis. They Rule!!!!! Most are asking me for help in calming down the ridiculousness that has rapidly gotten out of control here. We've all seen an incredible amount of thoughtlessness going on lately. I realize many people are upset & some are just not thinking clearly. I don't have a solution, but I would like to say this, in hopes that it may help. I'd just like to remind you all that Jewel's staff & many other people DO MONITOR this list, believe it or not. Imagine the impression you are giving THEM, not to mention all the new people just signing on.... Jewel also enjoys keeping up with the lists activities, projects & most importantly, the thoughtful way in which this list has conducted itself over the past few years. Now I dread if she asks me to forward a few recent digests, so she can catch up while out of the country..... I constantly tell people that you won't find a more thoughtful large group of people anywhere on the NET. Some of them are now writing back to me saying "Geez, what happenned?!" I just wanted to throw that out there. Stop & think, people. I love the EDAs for the thoughtful caring nature that has been developed on this list since early 1995. Thats something that is sorely lacking of late. It takes EVERYONE to make this list what it is. It also takes EVERYONE to save it from self destruction. In closing, I'll remind you of what Jewel herself wrote (in part) to all of you less than two weeks ago: "I hear from time to time these wonderful stories of you taking good care of each other, helping people in trouble and stuff, and I always feel very proud to know you and have your support. There's so much that individuals can do and you guys really get that. We are the better world. Thank you all so much for being there for me and for others." --Jewel Please attempt to be nice to each other. MrBB *********************************** New to the list?
