I'd just like to inform all who are interested that her debut album, "Anchorless", was released Tuesday,September 23 under Atlantic (the same as Jewel's record label). I checked out the Atlantic Records page, and was able to listen to parts of all twelve tracks to the CD. I would say her genre is folk rock. She sounds like Sheyl Crow, and I liked the instrumental a lot. Her vocals are not as good as Jewel's, but I really enjoyed the rhythm of her music. It was very listenable. If you want more personal info on the talented Kacy Crowley, there is a twenty plus minute interview that you can listen to at the Atlantic Records page. Thanks. Im kinda new to this list, I been on for 4 days. And I havnt seen anyone from .dk (maybe there are some but I skipped some of the mail because of so little time). I know that I love Jewel's music, but I have only listen to the POY, and in fact I love all the songs on it. So I have some question: 1. Are there anyone from Denmark? 2. Does any one know if Jewel is planing to visit our little county, I have seen the tour list, and Germany is the closest she get. Well I hope that she will visit our great county, and Ill be there if she come event that I have to go there alone. =A7adly =A3ndless Jesper Lorentzen sadly@mail.ikasths.dk Denmark ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Sep 1997 15:22:03 +1000 (EST) From: Jason Pong Subject: The Paradise tape G'day all, Im a newbie to this list (about 2 days now). Firstly abit about myself. I live in Melbourne, Australia and I have been a converted Jewel fan since April this year, when I had chicken pox and was watching MTV and came across some of her songs (ok so Im abit slow but give me a break, since we are in the middle of nowhere!). Im 26 years old and I work as a support/field engineer for Graphics Computer Systems dealing with Sun clones. My other passion is riding motorcycles and I am the proud owner of a Ducati 888. Now that I have the intro out of the way, the reason that Im writing to this mailing list is that Im after a copy of Paradise Tape and any other works by Jewel (so far I only have POY and her singles that are being sold in the music shops). If anybody would be kind enough to dub the tapes for me I would be very greatful. Of course I willing supply the blank tapes and money for the postage and in return I promise to dub tapes for other EDAs in the future. If there are any EDAs living in Aust send me some email! - -=- Jase - --- Jason Pong (jase@gcs.com.au) Graphics Computer Systems Pty Ltd, Australia Ph: +61-3-9888-8522 Fax: +61-3-9888-8511 ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Sep 1997 23:42:36 -0400 (EDT) From: lseidman@nimbus.ocis.temple.edu Subject: My letter to ET weekly Hi EDA's. I wrote this letter to Entertainemtn weekly on behalf of Jewel after one of their writers wrote a critique on her in the august 97 issue. I found the article to lack any real research on Jewel, her music or her fans. Sorry it took me so long to share my views with all of you. My article... Dear David Brown, I recently read your article "Goign To Pieces Again" and I found it to be uninsightful, misrepresentative and misconstrued. I find it hard to believe that you did your research on Jewel or the Lilith Fair for that matter. If you ahd doen your research, you would know that the Lilith Fair does not "downplay girlishness, vulnerability or sex" - in fact it supports a woman's right to have all of the above characteristics and yet still be strong, independent and intelligent. In Jewel's own words (heard on talk show AM Live) "People assume that if your optimistic or have innocence that your somehow naive, overly simplistic, not thoughtful, but there's really many realities wanting to be filled simultaneously... It comes down to which one you choose". Jewels songs, her words are not only inteeligent explanations of society, but they are also filled with a wisdom and understanding far beyond her young years. She is far from just "a delicate flower wandering wide eyed through life". She grew up poor in alaska, and sacrificed by living in her car so she could live without compromising her dreams. She expects more from herelf. Her words are more than "confident yet ditsy songs" - they are inspirational and insightful views of humankind. She is more than your article made her out to be. Her "Charisa and star power" are not only only attributes. She is effective in bringing people together and \making them question thier beliefs. Some of her women in her songs may seem like "simps" , but beneath the sarcasim and cynisim of some of her music lies and even greater meaning. Jewel can sing pop, rock, folk, blues, country, lullibies and yes... even yodel. Her takents are definatly different than those who have come before her, but thats what makes her unique. Mr. Brown, All celebrities, all artists experience critical evaluations. I'm not saying Jewel can't handle her share. I am saying that your critique is incomplete. In Jewels own words, "I'm sorry I'm glue and the rest bounces off of you and I'm sorry not even these jets metal wings could get across these simple things and I'm sorry if I ever sang your name in vain, Oh well, sometimes it be that way. Marlee plays electric and acoutic guitars, and she goes solo, with a small band or really rocked out depending on the venue. Her sound is a little like Juliana Hatfield and the songs are pretty much upbeat. Their label is TRG records and they come from Minneapolis. Marlee and the band are touring now and I though I'd give you her itenerary in case you are near and would like to give them a try. I really recommend this group. Hi, my name is Tom Hall (not Ben), I am English, and I live in Germany. Because of this I only have the album, YWMFM single and WWSYS single. Aren't I unlucky? Anyway, I am Jewel's number one European fan, and was wondering if anyone knows when she will be playing in Europe (Holland, England or Germany!)..... She is beautiful, I would love to see her in real life and I really am her biggest European fan:))) My favourite Jewel songs are You Were Meant For Me, Pieces Of You, Rocker Girl, Cold Song, Angel Standing By and I'm Sensitive (is that where the name Everyday Angels came for this list?) Well.... Here comes the questions bit: Where can I get the Jewel CD's: Rare Angels and Save The Linoleum? They look really cool! Can someone send me them, if I pay you? Also can someone send me the Foolish Games single? I will also pay for this... PLEASE reply someone! Another question: why does she get no recognition in Europe? She has brilliant songs, great looks and she is soooo nice. My friends in school (i am only 13) think she is really sexy and all that, but they don't appreciate her music :(((( I suppose it just isn't Europe's kind of music? Also, would any other Europeans want to meet up sometime? Especially if Jewel is gigging in Europe, that would be great! By then, I'm sure I will enjoy my time on this great list for a great woman! The recording manages to capture the intimacy and playfulness of the event...its bursting with great songs and stories and people having a groovy time...I even got to hear the famous skip song that wasn't played in Lancaster!
