Okay you see personally I write poetry and Jewel is my inspiration and like Idol and stuff.... and I use " naughty " words in my stuff a lot. even though I am a very good christian.. and I just wanted to say that Jewels Explicit lyrics such as the usage of Bitch and Faggot in Pieces of You .. are what make that song so great.. The fact that she is reflecting on humanities thoughts and actions in the way that us as a sociaty view such issues as homosexuallity and plus if she said.." hes a gay man" it just wouldnt have the same affect.. I believe that BMG gave it the explicit lyrics and/or artwork symbol because she used the word 'fag' in the song POY. I too find this odd since a lot of the CDs in there that have the word 'f*ck' a few times does not get this symbol. An example of this is the Cure's "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me"; it says 'f*ck' two times in it and yet does not have the symbol. But who knows, I always believed BMG was a bit screwed up. ry4n ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Sep 1997 18:58:44 -0400 (EDT) From: ViolntPhem@aol.com Subject: NJC: Rock-a-thon ATTENTION EDA's! This year, my high school band (yes, I am a band geek) is taking a trip down to the happiest little place in the world. No, it's not Las Vegas or Graceland. We're going to Disney World. I have never been in the whole 17 years of my exsistence, and so it's a really exciting trip for me! However, to go on this trip costs about $800 >ouch<. So, our band is holding a Rock-a-thon. What is a Rock-a-thon, you may ask? Well, basically, members from the band will be rocking in rocking chairs for 12 hours straight. The only exceptions will be potty emergencies! The "rockers" collect donations from people, which helps defray the cost of the trip. So, I am asking you to help. I will be in a rocking chair for 12 hours and desprately need sponsors to support me while I rock. You can either pay me a certain amount, like a nickle, for every hour rocked, or just send me a buck or two, or however much you'd like to donate. >>>>>By the way, did I mention that this whole Rock-a-thon was taking place in the middle of a huge mall?<<<<<<<<<< >very embarrassing< If you would like to help and support me rock my way into Disney World, please email me and I can give you my address... The Angel that Follows ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Sep 97 20:17:44 PDT From: "Beth" Subject: guitars and a jewel song Hey everybody...I just wanted to let the person who was looking for a guitar to learn on that a good place to start may be with a starter kit. Okay, I know, some of you are saying NOOOO! But when I wanted to learn to play guitar my dad went out and found a cheap but very nice sounding guitar. The brand is called Ibanez, and the kit includes the guitar, a soft case, a video, extra guitar strings and a bunch of other stuff. The big thing is, you need a guitar that sounds good, and everyone who has played my guitar or hear me playing it is impressed with the sound that it makes. Even my dad was impressed, and he has been playing music since he was a little boy (he taught himself to play the piano, the guitar, drums, sax, and he was working on the violin--so I think he knows what to listen for). Anyway, the guitar was a good price, and I love it. On another note...I learned how to play my first Jewel song!!! Okay, so it was "I'm Sensitive"--not the most complicated guitar tab..but I learned it just the same! The other thing was this...there is a cd out called "music for our mother earth" (you all probably know this already) and there is a song on it by Jewel...sorry, I don't remember the name of the song, but I thought I would mention it just in case anyone doesn't know. Oh yeah...I think some of the proceeds (or all of the proceeds) from the cd go towards environmental chairities or something like that. When I first heard Jewel, it was her looks that turned me -off- of her music. Crazy? Well maybe, but I have my reasoning I guess. I thought she was some girl who had a father at some record label out there and was swept into the music industry and didn't write her own songs, etc.. I guess you can imagine what kind of a lesson I learned after I got to know her music / life much more thoroughly. I feel really bad that I labelled somebody with such an honest background without even knowing anything about them. But that's ok, I know better now. Also, did anybody catch Unplugged? (I know its a rerun). Man, Jewel had this little mischevious grin on her face that looked so innocent! She looked like she was about to start ricocheting around the room at one point with all that youthful energy.. I dunno, maybe I am just nuts, but I thought it was cute. I was talking to a girl I know between classes today and she was in the same mood.. she referred to it as being too "slap happy", which I thought was funny.
