I have been on this list for a while and haven't yet seen a Jewel tree that I could participate in. Kinda worries me. Like, maybe you all have EVERYTHING or something. Just pick a concert. It doesn't have to be a "special" concert or anything. Just to make a tree, and have more angelfood out there. Maybe do one in Japan or somthing! =) However I don't know if the Future Fokelour (sp?) tree is done yet or not. But I think we should make a tree soon. Here is a second thought, maybe it doesn't have to be one concert. (I know, not original, but I am not finished) but instead how about this. Someone get in contact with Jewel (HINT HINT Mr. BB!) and ask her what her favorite songs are. Ask her what she likes, and make a tape of that. OR we could make a mix tape of Jewel's influences. Now as well as then. I thought some of you might want the address, so here it is: S & M Rock Photos, P.O. Box 6064, Laguna Niguel, CA 92677. Good Luck. Did anyone out there record the concerts in Wallingford, CT; Storrs, CT; or Lowell, MA recently? I would love to have a copy of these shows. Please let me know, as I've got a tape of the 2-23-97 show I would be willing to trade. Also, a few days ago someone asked for the email address for TNT, it is www.tnt@turner.com I just wrote to them asking for them to air The Wizard of Oz in Concert with Jewel as Dorothy. Hey all you Jewel fanatics out there!, How are you guys? I am a new member of the list )just signed on yesterday). My name is Bonnie and I'm a 19 yr old female currently attending Penn State. I got to see Jewel's concert here last Monday (Sept. 8). She was incredible! I am a huge Jewel fan now, but I only have the PoY album. Does anyone know if there is any way I can get any, I mean ANY, other recordings of Jewel? Oh yeah. At the concert, Jewel sang You Were Meant for Me and then went into a faster version of it. In the faster version, she forgot the words to the 2nd chorus. It really didn't affect her or the audience. We still loved her! Can anyone tell me if there is an address (both by email and by good old pen and paper) for Jewel herself so that I can write to her? I would really appreciate it. Ok gotta go. Talk to you later! A musical angel, Bonnie ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Sep 97 15:33:08 EDT From: Jeffrey Kokosinski Subject: why the band? I've just been thinking about Jewel and her band and why she suddenly needs to play with one. This is my theory. If you see a new artist hit the scene big time like jewel did, all the top 40 listeners are waiting on a new album and new singles. There's got to be a list of hundreds of people who hit it with a debut and get all into their creative control and artistic stylings that their 2nd album is so far gone that it loses all popularity. Now before anyone has a heart attack, I'm not saying Jewel is a sell-out, but I think she is building a firm base on which to stand on for the rest of her career. As a musician, I know that what you want to do is not always what everyone else wants to hear. And without selling out, you have to play to your audience to a degree. So I think that's what she is doing here. Now if she went electric then we'd have problems but that's another discussion all together. ttyl JEFF ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Sep 1997 15:11:08 -0400 From: Ted Berberian Subject: Our day in Lowell Hi Folks! Well I finally figured out that was wrong with my modem, and yes Albert we guessed right. So finally now I am back in business... What a day... Things were not looking good in the being, after not being able to get online to confirm were everyone was supposed to meet and being a little late because of work Tessia and I were off. We arrived safe and sound (no thanks to the other crazy drivers) at the venue around 4:30 and met up with Albert, Bill, and Dennis.. (Not in that order though.. the three of them all came at us at once.. And Dennis was yelling at me for taking up two parking spots..) We waited alittle bit for Alan to join us then we were off for food. We found a nice little place not that far away, I forget the name of it, but they were playing some weird music from a singer from alaska. (go figure) But things really started to rock when the mystery songs came on! Go Neil Diamond... (We did good Dennis..) The food was cheap and good, it was real nice talking with everyone. It reaffirms that I enjoy the people at the shows more then "the shows". The concert was great, talk about a ton of pot!... opps.. I mean songs... :) Jewel really is getting better at playing bigger crowds. (which is good) And her stuff with the band is amazing. I can wait for the new cd!!! I sat to the side of the stage and saw most of everything, Dennis also sat with me for the entire show. We both commented that the average age for the crowd was 14 and under (except there parents). So we started to wonder how Jewel would handle us yelling "free bird". And just as we were getting up the guts to yell it Dennis kept getting these taps on the shoulder from a little girl. We kinda ignored her because Dennis was alot older and we didn't want any trouble. But... after awhile he turn to see that she wanted because she was extremely persistent. She said "your on my foot" well talk about being right! The foot of his chair was crushing her little foot, how it got there who knows... Dennis felt bad and gave her the promo tape he got from Albert. Then he explained the tape to her mother and made sure she knew that he wasn't trying to pick up her daughter. The rest of the show went without incident. We were singing and rocking to the music the whole time some guy beside me kept looking at me.. (mmmm... no not today thank you very much... I am with the the long haired guy.. Oh your security never mind...) The crowd seemed to have missing the point of most of the songs and only got excited for the album stuff. After the show we all meet up and now it included Chris and Rachel. we talk for awhile and yet still more cops and ambulance were driving by. Tessia was able to flirt with one of the fireman that was riding in an engine responding to a call. He waved both times he went by, she was happy. Alan and Rachel where first to leave.. (A very long day for everyone) The rest of us decided to get some food, and after many minutes of driving the streets of lowell we found a pizza place that was still open. (thanks to the hot dog guy) After enjoying the pizza and talking we headed off to find very ones vehicles. We dropped off Bill and Albert first, then we were off to find Chris's car. One the way there Dennis yells out that the parking garage was the one he was parked at. No problem I drive up and we let him out and it is agreed that we stay until he come out with his car just in case.. Dennis then returns saying that this is the wrong place and why did we drop him off at the hospital parking garage... Chris whispered to the effect of "didn't you want to be commited?" Chris is the next one to get drop off and we say our goodbyes. Then it was off to get Dennis to his car. Man talk about drive around and around... we kept getting back on the same streets... I was starting to get nervous because I didn't want the locals to think that the Supertruck (tm) was a new vehicle used by a rival gang. But thnakfully we find the correct parking garage and let Dennis out. We waited patiently for him to drive out but there was no sign of him. Tessia and I started to talk about driving over the wooden gate and go looking for him, and just as I was revving the engine Dennis showed up. So we both were off, me taking the lead just in case someone jump out into the road I could run them over. (Dennis didn't want any blood on his car) We made to 495/Rte3 exit without incident and drove our seperate ways to end a great day. ~Ted ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Sep 1997 12:55:57 -0400 From: twinkiboy@juno.com (Shane E Kirk) Subject: guitar players please read >I was just wanting some advice from you guitar players out there. >I want to learn to play the guitar as many of you do and was >wondering what the best method of learning is. Electric guitars are great, but if you wanna be serious about playing I STRONGLY suggest to anyone who's wanting to learn to go out and get a cheap (not too cheap - try a YAMAHA) acoustic guitar. For this one reason, you can grow more dynamically on an acoustic. Let me illustrate.... I have a friend who learned to play on electric. He flys all over the sucker on lead and jumps around with barr chords and everything. I handed him an acoustic and said, "Come on, let's play a little". The dude couldn't even press the strings down, let alone play the thing. He has to finger strength. True colors are shown an acoustic. You can cover up a lot of mistakes and bad habits with the stomp of a distortion pedal, phaser, or whatever. If you want to learn to play beautifully and effectively, start with an acoustic. Migrating to an electric later is a piece of cake. A solid-body electric guitar really is a toy compared to an acoustic strung up with 0.12s. :) As for buying that first guitar, don't be cheap! A Seagull or Norman or a decent Yamaha or Fender is essential! If you buy a laminated top guitar (usually under $350 w/o electronics), you'll regret it later when your ears become more sensitive to the nuances of different instruments. (It will feel like you wasted up to $350.) I made the mistake of starting on a laminated top Yamaha and in the last couple of years, I've found myself really disappointed with the sound every time I sat down to figure out something off a CD. (The pros always use solid-top guitars.) I've since acquired a Seagull and realized first hand that the solid-top makes all the difference in the world! > I'm assuming you're speaking of an electric guitar.
