Yeah she was rather approachable... wanna hear the story? Read on First off, Jared, the Superdeformed angel, and Angel to The Rescue, picked GroovyLime and I up to drag us to the Siena College show in Albany this morning. Neither Steve nor I had tickets... We got there.. just hung out a bit.. I bought a ticket from some guy but Steve was ticketless :< We found Dave Baerwald soon afterward and we had a couple words with him. His fave Jewel song is "Amen" he says :) When he found out about Steve's ticket problem, he went back inside and got him a ticket and an after-show pass. Well, then.. that was cool. So we sat in line a little bit longer and Steve wandered off... Soon he came back and asked if we wanted to go backstage a bit.. Figuring that only Dave would be back there, I said sure why not.. But I walked around the truck parked near there and no sooner had I but I was standing face to face with Jewel K... our little angel! :) Of course, I got her autograph, I mean I just love to see what people would write down, ya know? She wrote: "Linda - EDA's RocK! <\/> \/ Jewel" And wow was that neat. I even got pictures taken of her and Dave. She called Dave a cynical bastard, jokingly.. And when he got up to do his set later he said "I'm a cynical bastard, damnit" :) We got free food from the buffet table... yum We sat first row :P hehehe nah I'm not teasing... I just thought it was cool... BTW, those of you that don't know.. Jewel is like the best hugger in the world... And she likes Kraft Macaroni And Cheese... that discussion came up after I gave her a "macaroni-and-cheese" colored Crayola Crayon.. She demolished it by peeling it and stuff but not after she signed someone's notebook with it. She seemed very happy and very approachable and very sweet which was very good... A lot of college guys outside were yelling for her and she went to her bus and came back and she said something then one guy said "Shh she's going to say something" and she asked them "Why do you guys have to act so stupid?" It was perfect, might I add... The show was INCREDIBLE... Here's the setlist for all that haven't seen it already :) "Smart in a Stupid Way" With Dave Baerwald "Don't" "Little Sister" "Pieces of You" "Everything Breaks" "Fragile Flame" "Daddy" "Near You Always" "I'm Sensitive" "Deep Water" "Satellite" "Been Down So Long" "Who Will Save Your Soul" "Love Me Just Leave Me Alone" "Morning Song" "You're In Cleveland Today" "Painters" - including a note "This is for Steve" meaning our own little Groovy Lime... I thought he was gonna turn into a cocktail he was shaking so much :) tee hee "Passing Time" "Down" "Dancing Barefoot" "Carnivore" "You Were Meant For Me" "Foolish Games" encore: "Angel Standing By" "Amen" "Chime Bells" Needless to say it rocked and afterwards while Steve went back to get a few things autographed for some less unfortunate people, me and Jared and some other cool people got to meet Jewel's band.. That drummer really rocks... I told him that every time he hit the bass drum my heart pounded and he replied "Good, that's how it's sposed to be!" hehehe he said it pretty devilishly And the keyboardist is from Morristown which is like a half hour from me... Well, sorry to all of you EDA's who couldn't make it there when we all went back to meet Jewel There's always next time, ya know :) Hehehe and i didn't even use the ticket i bought.. they just told me to go right in :) Ttyl - -linda the lovable angel :) spice@castle.carsey.net ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Sep 1997 14:29:38 +0700 From: Li San Subject: Re: the rocktoons vote >yesterday jewel had 171 votes but today she only has 168. i wonder what >happened. i think it's rigged. I don't think arguing about whether Madonna is better or worse than Jewel is a topic worth debating. Like it or not, people in this mailing list have many diverse & varied taste in music, although they all have a common love and appreciation for Jewel's beauty and musical talent. Besides, arguing about a touchy subject as such probably won't change anyone's opinion but instead fouls other people's mood. The truth is, we do not have the power nor the right to tell people what they should like and should not like. Why don't we just respect this fact and stop trying to "convert" people by what you believe is the fact. This is not a flame; quite the opposite. But I just hope the "truce" that we have agreed on before about not flaming the artists/bands that we don't like publicly can be kept. If not, it would only disrupt the harmonious atmosphere within this mailing list for Jewel. Thanx for all who listened. I am in the process now of starting to produce a new Jewel tape tree, hopefully to be launched in December. It will be new material from late 1996 and all of 1997. It may even be a two tape tree if the material warrants it. > The reason I'm wondering is because the quality and distribution > of those tapes get professionally done. In the past, some trees had a professional quality because of the source material and who did the production. This tree will be culled and produced from audience tapings and I'll be producing it. Because it's going to be an audience taping, it won't be no "Jewel Rocks The Paradise" as far as top notch quality goes, but I have high hopes for it. > Do tape trees require Jewel's permission? In more than a few cases we've asked her management about issues on certain things about a particular tree. We have a very nice relationship with Jewel and her management and it's just the right thing to do, they are our our friends. > What requirements are needed to start a tree? #1 is a note from a reputable psychiatrist that you are indeed crazy. ;) Seriously, speaking from first hand experience (having administered three of the last four trees on this list), these things take a lot of work, and with this list ever growing, it takes a lot of volunteers to be branches (dubbers). I am expecting perhaps up to 400 leaf requests for this next tree. NOTE!! PLEASE do not email me now volunteering to be a branch or asking to sign up as a leaf. That info will be announced when the tree is ready to roll, as I said, likely in December :) > Does the recording master have to be DAT? Most times it is. Sometimes it isn't. Depends on if it's a "one show" tape, or a compilation, and what we have to work with. (Compilation usually results in a DAT master) Please note, Jewel's management has specifically asked us to never distribute a tape tree in a digital format though, and those wishes will be abided by me on this and any tree I do in the future. > It's just that with this latest tour after lilith fair being so limited, > I would really want to hear some of these awesome shows I'm SICK > ((ok,ok jealous)) of hearing about, most notably the Lowell show.
