Well, I guess they aren't, because I asked the clerk if I could make a special order, and he said I had to call 1-800-ASK-TOWER, and that they would take my order by credit card, and mail it to my house. I tried going to the Wiz, and making a special order, but according to the clerk, they still aren't able to, and that they should be able to in 1-2 weeks. Of course, when I went there about 6 months ago, and tried to make a special order, they hadn't been able to. I guess I'll be calling that number. Just thought you'd like to know that in this brand new girl's magazine, named "Twist," there's a list of 25 facts that you've "never" heard about Jewel, before. A hanful of them are common EDA knowledge, but a few of them I had never heard before. If you don't buy it for the trivia, buy it for the picture. In addition to a tiny pic on top right-hand corner of the cover, there's a really cool one of Jewel on the opposite page of the 25 facts, of her barefoot and in a bluish sweater from the waist up, and a pair of black pants. It's really cool. Even if you're a guy, too, you should buy it. It didn't stop me. I couldn't care less what the magazine's about, as long as it has something I want in it. It went straight into my Jewel/Party of Five/Buffy: TVS collection. If you go looking for it, it has Jeremy London (of Party of Five fame) right on the cover (which makes it twice as good for fans of both Jewel and POF). Oh, and it has a blurb about Charisma Carpenter, and David Boreanaz (of Buffy: TVS fame) for all you fellow Buffy fans, as well. Just thought my fellow EDAs would like to know. Catch ya later. It's like it's a sin on VH1 to actually play the video in its entirety. That's why I like MTV so much better. They almost always show the whole video, with very few exceptions. VH1 sucks. I remember one time when they cut off the video "Time" by Hootie and the Blowfish about 60 seconds before it really ends. And I'm not exagerating. Literally, 60 seconds. Even if a video has a really dramatic ending, they cut it off. Like leaving one or two videos out to clear the time would really make a difference. Phillip Subject: Jewel pull-out poster in FACES IN POP magazine I don't recall this being posted before, but there is a pull-out poster of Jewel, in that Grammy dress, in the magazine FACES IN POP, it's the November 97 issue. I believe it's a US magazine, but I bought my copy in Tower Records in London. I surprised you all missed this cause it has those adorable Hanson boys on the cover. :-) The Jewel poster (in fact there are about 8 - Hanson, Spice Girls, Wallflowers, Bush and others) is about 21"x15" in colour. Also in the magazine there's a competition to determine the cutest guy/girl in pop, Jewel is up against Alanis Morissette, Gwen Stefani and Baby Spice. On page 54 there is a tiny article baout how present pop music is the same as the old pop music. Here is the article: And the Band Played On: Meet the new pop, same as the old pop. Pop, like plastic, is endlessly recyclable; a fact that's never been more apparent than in our current era of pop revanchism. Today's milquetoast outfits in fact bear an uncanny resemblance to the ones a few decades old. Below, a rundown of how the song has remained quite precisely the same. ANDREW BEAUJON The Osmands = Hanson and follows is text that outlines the "striking" similarities between the groups. Melanie Wobbly-voiced, caterwauling young folksinger with a penchant for candles. Sauciest lyric: "I've got a brand-new pair of rollerskates/ you've got a brand new key." Jewel obbly-voiced, caterwauling young folksinger with a penchant for see-through dresses. Sauciest lyric: "You can be Henry Miller/ And I'll be Anias Nin." The article goes on the compare Gary Lewis & The Playboys with the Wallflowers, Harry Chapin (Cat's in the Cradle) and Bob Carlisle (Butterfly Kisses), & Kitty Kallen and Meredith Brooks. I don't know what to make of this article. Hopefully its not the opinion of the majority. Happy day everyone, Natalie. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Sep 1997 15:33:58 -0600 (Mountain Daylight Time) From: Candace Subject: Baffled ""Jewel is way better than Madonna!! You just need to step into the 90's!!! Do y'all EDA's agree with me???!!!"" Hi, I've been lurking on the list for a few months now and this is my first message. I felt compelled to respond to this statement because, YES, I do like Madonna. Madonna is one of my favorite artists ALONG with Jewel, not NEXT to Jewel or ABOVE Jewel. Yes, I don't agree with the person who originally posted all this crap about Jewel but this is not the reply that I would expect from what I believe to be a group of understanding and accepting people. I'm not pointing my finger, I am simply attempting to understand the reasoning behind such a statement. I find it difficult to compare Madonna and Jewel or any other artists for that matter. Yes, I agree that Madonna should not be brought up on the list but that is no reason to overreact. If you really want to argue about this, I can come up with a million reasons why Madonna might be "better" than Jewel but I won't because it's not necessary or valid. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but this doesn't seem to be a well thought out one. Sorry if I'm offending anyone but if this person is allowed to have their opinion then I'm allowed to express mine. I love both Jewel AND Madonna for very different yet simultaneously similar reasons. That may sound paradoxical but it's true. Just think what Jewel would think about this statement. This message probably gives the wrong impression of what I'm really like (I'm not normally so argumentative) but I felt that a slight injustice has been done here. I apologize if I've offended anyone, that was not my purpose. Sorry for the length but thank you for reading.
