She held me spellbound with the passion in her voice. I could feel the emotion she had as she sang. I was deeply touched by this and felt somewhat meloncholy the next day. The same songs I have listened to for the last 2 years, all of a sudden have new meaning and a new feel to them. This inspired me to write a song about this experience and I can only hope that someday she will hear it and know that she has made a difference in my life. Jewel is truly a modern day Angel that has had a positive impact on so many peoples lives. I had this confirmed when I played "you were meant for me " at a party and these 4 little girls age 6-9 sang the chorus like 4 little angels, another moment I will not forget. Tomorrow will be September 11, 1997. On September 11, 1996, I wrote for the first time to the majordomo, and asked to subscribe to jewel. Yes, tomorrow will be my first Angelday :) I remember, back then, we were less then half the number of people on now. The volume of mail was significantly lower. Mike Connell was busy with the final details of the first Jewelstock Cassettes tree. The Harris Bros were just Dennis and Dean, with the backing of the Sisters of Joy. MrBB was a member, NJC hadn't been established as a list policy, and people had quotes like: Share publically, flame privately 'cause anyone can start a conflict in their sigfiles. When they said international Angels (as opposed to US and Canada) it was mainly Puerto Rico, Australia, Sweden (the name Alex Stamou ring a bell?) and Israel. Sean Hooks was the black sheep (as opposed to Dennis and Dean, who were the black herd) of the list, always talking about how, when all is said and done, he prefered that Jewel would remain less famous and more in contact with us, her fans. What can I tell you, those were the days. On a completly different note, in five days time, I will begin receiving VH1 (I'm not sure, but it may replace [V]). That's September 15. If anyone would like to warn me in advance about upcoming shows with Jewel (sorry, I wasn't paying much attention to what's going on on channels I don't receive), I would be grateful. It was my first show, and my dad went with me...He was afraid it was going to be like one of those punk concerts with a mosch(sp?) pit, immature audiences, and words that are inconceivably hard to understand(I'm sorry if this is a stereotype...It's my personal opinion of punk rock concerts...I don't mean to offend anyone), but I was telling him before the concert that it was going to be cool and peaceful on the most part. Neither him nor I were entertained much by David Baerwald's music, but I think that's because I didn't know much of his music...When I bought POY, I had heard YWMFM like several billion times on a tape that my sister taped off the radio, so I knew the song,...I bought the CD to hear that song and learn more...However, I think I could get used to it :) I liked "Smart in a Stupid Way"...I kinda emoted that with my life a little :) Unless someone wants me to, I won't rehash the setlist...I will say a few things though...I LOVED the effect with the lighters during FG and Angel Standing By(ASB)...My dad gave me a look during Daddy b/c I was having such a good time singing it :) I liked the Cold song...It was short, rapid, and nothing on earth was as sweet :) I do however have a few words for the Penn State Rec Hall Staff...I was told that the concert wouldn't sell out...Now, I'm more intelligent than to believe that, but the place was packed tighter than....I don't know what...until people sat down and the concert began. I'm not sure if that's the way all concerts are, but I noticed during the Morning Song when the bright beams came on that the bleachers on both sides and the back were packed, and the seats in the center were packed as well...However, I'm basically writing to proclaim my admiration for Jewel's great skill...As I think was said in other posts, she said that we were one of the best groups of the tour, and she yodeled(sp?) for us at the very end...That ROCKED!! Anyway, I guess I'll end my post there b/4 I get carried away :) TTY All L :) Personals: Bridget, Bill: 'twas nice meeting you both :) Hopefully, I can meet more EDAs at future concerts...I'm still trying to get my service fraternity to host a concert and request Jewel as one of the performers...I'd love to work with Jewel in that fashion :) Seth Fulmer A.K.A. Jewel did Rosie's first practice show last year, and then was invited back for a July 17 actual appearance (the day before Jewelstock began). She did WWSYS and then chatted a bit (per usual with Rosie). The discussion was about Jewel's interest in noses (Bob Dylan's nose, Rosie's nose), doing the Melissa Etheridge VH1 special the previous year, and then Jewel's ability to yodel. It's not aimed at anyone in particlar, and in a way, I have even been guilty. Lately it seems as if every other post reads, "desperate for angelffod", "I need tape" , "this is my first post, I'm starving"..etc, etc. Angelfood is not hard to come by. Many on this list have it and many are willing to dub it. What it does require is for you to take a day or two of reading before begging for tapes. Recently, two angels offered to make a dub of JRTP for ANYONE who wanted it. I recenly reposted a message about a list I run of people who trade Jewel. On this list, each person says whether they will trade for blanks or not. Had you really wanted tapes, you could have read that post, checked the page and contacted someone the correct way. It's funny, I made the repostat the request of someone who is on the list and was sick of seeing all the "I need food" posts and wanted to spread the information. What I didn;t realize was that earlier in the day (I am usually a few digests behind) someone had posted a plug for my list. Thsi person is not on the list, they had taken the time to read one of my non-trading related posts and saw my sig at the bottom. Took the time to check it out, saw that *I* will sometimes trade for blanks, contacted me, and I happily agreed to dub shows for her. She then plugged my page (without my knowledge) as a way for other people to get tapes. I anyone had *read* these posts. They may have found an easy source of tapes. I'm sometimes reluctant to mention the list during times of high requests because I feel bad that the blank traders will be flooded with requests, but no one has complained yet (soory guys if this happens!) Again, don't take it the worng way, just read what is posted, make friends, and you'll find the angelffod piling up. Also, please do not respond to this message with "please send me blanks" requests. i will still trade for blanks, but I am backed up and don't want a million requests. If you do it the right way, and I'll know, I'll still do it. Thanks, and if I offended anyone, sorry. I am not a newbie hater, I was one a long time ago to, but this basically is aimed at newbies. Just take your time, I realize your anxious, but you'll get them and it'll be well worth it. Anybody got an ace in the hole they could lend me? ;) There is a Cindy Lee Berryhill/Joy Eden Harrison concert scheduled to take place in St. Louis this coming Sunday (9/14). Unfortunately the "living room" I was counting on got reserved out from under me. All concerned are aware of the situation and I've got a few eyes, ears, and mouths helping locate an appropriate venue, but the exact location and time are yet to be determined. Anyone interested in attending (admittedly short notice), please drop me (not the list...) a line - rjk1@cs.wustl.edu (rjk"one", not rjk"el"). Full details will be posted once finalized, but in the unlikely event smoe does not take well to various parts of it's lifeline being moved (Murphy is _not_ my friend...), this could conceivably be the only public notification. In any event, those e-mailing me expressing interest will be notified off-list as well. Anyone holding that ace I mentioned (a living room in St. Louis that could accomodate a dozen or two people this coming Sunday), I'd like to talk. 8) Don't mind that noise, that's just my new ulcer. ;) bob ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Sep 1997 18:37:22 -0400 From: "Wojtek Kowalewski" Subject: Re: [NJC] Wonderful new artist: Dayna Manning - ---------- > From: Albert Sze-Wei Wang > To: jewel@smoe.org > Subject: [NJC] Wonderful new artist: Dayna Manning > Date: Wednesday, September 10, 1997 1:49 PM > > > Hi Everyone, > > I wanted to let everyone know about a new artist who is in the US for the > first time ever.
