I've never posted here before, I've been content to read the mindblowing content of this list. ahem. Anyway I'm bored so I'm posting so sue me if you wish and I will see you in court. adieu. Oh wait. I'm meant to say something. errr I'm glad that Jewel won an award, although me being a poor english fellow I was asleep at the time because we saw the mtv thing live at about 3 AM. niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. But she deserves it. Jewel I think is a great musician= better than KEITH RICHARDS may I add. Also, she is amongst the sexiest females alive, in my (astute) opinion. Both these reasons are made doubly nice considering that I'm going to not 1 but 2 of her concerts on the 4 date tour in october. hooray I cannot wait. Being an English Jewel fan is a strange thing, and a rather nice one at that- because there are very very few of us indeed. I was in America last summer and heard who will save your soul a few times on the radio and on the strength of that got the album, and it's absolutely spiffing! thank you oh yes. someone mentioned radiohead recently, on letterman. I agree. Radiohead are majestic. matt ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 05 Sep 1997 16:53:48 -0700 From: Tom Morales Subject: Re: Jewel Schmul > What Up With Fiona Apple? I think she was trying to make a point and be quite young but literate still had trouble conveying her thoughts. If you noticed the variety of artists last night you might have seen a broad spectrum of talent. If you looked even closer you might see that there were two factions of artists. Honest and fake. I think Fiona was just trying to say that in the music business she sees agents, producers, musicians et. al. and some are real and some are fake. She was telling teenagers to be true to themselves instead of trying to be what they think their peers and the media think is cool. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Sep 1997 20:01:39 -0400 (EDT) From: TMTxGiRl@aol.com Subject: Jewel Posters Does anyone know where I can get posters of Jewel??? I've struck out too :( Heck, I live in a quite small city and the only store here that orders vinyl told me they had 6 orders besides mine (all struck out) It was put out in a limited edition, so likely all first pressings are gone/shipped....I doubt a used copy would show up in a boot store already, but I have seen that used CD & boot stores sell vinyl seemingly more than basic stores. Anyone else think this is a good idea? >> Ha! It's funny that you say that. As I read your post, I'm listening to Sarah's "Rarities" cd, I just got it tonight! I had never seen it before. Yes, I think that is an excellent idea. I think Jewel had something like that in mind a while back when she knew it would be awhile before the new album was out. She was on aol chatting back in the spring and mentioned a possible EP. It seems like she will want to get SOMETHING else out before the summer of '98 to keep herself rolling. Like you said, she definitely has plenty of great stuff, and she just keeps producing and improving! That's one of the many things that makes her so special! I was watching coverage of the preparation for Princess Diana's funeral and thinking about Mother Theresa. Diana's death has gotten a lot of coverage and I hope people will pay as much attention to someone a lot less glamorous. I know they won't and, granted, I understand. Diana's death was a tragedy. But Mother Theresa's passing seems even more biting. No, she was not killed in a car wreck. No, she did not die young. She lived to an old age and accomplished much. I sat in a T-shirt and boxer shorts watching this show. I ate candy as Mother Theresa cradled the poor in front of me. So, "we are everyday angels", huh? I believe it, but I don't hear much about it anymore. I have seen new members of this list praise its "closeness" recently, but where that once gave me a feeling of warmth, I now cannot help but miss our fervor and occasional, obnoxious zealotry of the past. For me, what separates this list from others is not courtesy, nor "angelfood" (and BTW, has it occured to anyone the odd connotations which arise from the thought of angels *feeding* off things? Spooks me, but that is not the point), nor concerts, nor music really, but instead a true sense of community in which a spirit of self-lessness and a recognition of that self-lessness prevails. You know, I miss that and am mildly ashamed to say I have done nothing recently to contribute to it. We lost two angels this week and they have left much work for others to complete. We are all busy and this is not a challenge or a call to arms. Rather, I felt the need to comment on what I see and ask, truly, what separates us *today*, not yesterday, from any other list of this kind? I pass no judgement. I am curious.
