We all know Jewel is far from egotistical so I was wondering what she really meant by that misinterpreted quote and I think I have an idea. In the same quote she is saying that LF isn't about fame. When she mentions her album sales, what she might mean is, "Look, if I'm the biggest selling artist this tour has, that tells you right there that this thing isn't for superstars." I think that the RS article really goes out of its way to portray Jewel in an unflattering light (as it tries to do the same thing with other Lilith artists and the entire Lilith Fair itself). Critics are just to cynical to believe that all those fame and fortune cannot change a person, even if that person is Jewel, the girl from Homer, Alaska. It's incredible to me (although at the same time, not too surprising) that a prominent magazine can praise Jewel with a cover story at one time, then turn around and slam her only a few months later. In the last few weeks i have read a lot of posts banging on newbies pretty hard. And I guess I kinda felt hurt. There are those of us out here that HAVE read the FAQ, that HAVE read the Netiquitte page, that know what a jcard is, try to find things out on our own before posting to keep mail volume down and understand what we are all doing here and love being a part of it...and above all know what EDA stands for and treat each other with respect. Granted there are those who don't understand what they are getting into or don't act with respect to all the members of the list, etc, etc, etc. And possibly I am one of those, who knows who I will offend. :) But what I guess I am saying is to disregard the bad experiences as best you can. There are going to be people that do things you won't like, don't act as they should, etc., etc., etc....everywhere in life, but hopefully here is a place where there will be less of that. But this isn't a pretty blue heaven (though it would be nice) there are trolls out there, there are just mean spirited people and naive people too. And the two afore mentioned love email. :) But please don't stereotype us. There are the good new angels out there...we are just in hiding because we feel separated from everyone else. Almost everyone was a new angel once, please give us the chance to feel like we belong here. Don't judge us all by the bad experiences you have had.
