Some of you are probably aware of the fact that I've been dubbing angelfood tapes non-stop since I've joined the list. I have dubbed over 100 tapes for my fellow EDAs. I have always been more than willing to help out my fellow EDAs. I have never asked for anything in return besides the cost of the blank tapes plus postage. Now I have a problem.... I am asking my fellow EDAs, especially EDA vets, for their advice. Right now I am currently dubbing Jewel Rocks the Paradise for any EDA who wants it. The problem is that a couple of weeks ago one of my non-EDA friends spotted "Jewel Rocks the Paradise" at their local tape/record store. It was in the form of an audio tape and it did not have an original J-card with it. I, of course, had enclosed an original J-card with all my copies of JRTP. (Once again I would like to thank Dennis Harris for making them for me). The tape was being sold for $15. My friend, knowing how special these angelfoods are to us EDAs, asked the clerk where the tape came from. The clerk said that he just worked there and that he had no clue. So that is my dilema. I don't know where the tape came from. I don't know if some person had joined the list just to get these angelfood tapes so that he/she could sell them commercially. Now I feel guilty. I don't know if the tape came from me but I do not want this incident to happen again. How can I prevent this? Should I just stop publicly offering to dub tapes to the list? Please feel free to respond to my email PRIVATELY so that not to flood the list with unnecessary posts. I would really like some feedback, especially from the EDA vets. Thank you and take care my angels--- BTW-for those who have already sent me their checks, I will honor our agreement Mary the wannabe angel :) "In the end only kindness matters" ~Jewel Kilcher ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Aug 1997 04:01:58 -0400 (EDT) From: Trueblu4u1@aol.com Subject: Jewe's name Here's what I read about Jewel's name: Jewel Your name of Jewel has given you a tenacity of purpose and makes you extremely independent. Whatever you undertake you approach from your own point of view, and others either have to conform to your ideas or go their own way and leave you to work things out for yourself. In assuming a responsibility there is a strong inclination to overlook the little personal considerations and attentions that create a bond of understanding and companionship, and it is difficult for you to merge your efforts harmoniously with others. In the home you could be too offhand and abrupt at times when you would really like to show your affection. In circumstances that require a little finesse, you find that you are inclined to be too direct and straight to the point. This is not a good name to use as it creates a severe frustration and causes tension affecting the eyes, ears, teeth, or sinus. It could also cause head colds or severe headaches. Hmmmmm. Someone already beat me to a posting of the setlist she did, but I agree with all who saw it, this was an awesome show. In reply to this message, Paul, I don't think the fans were mad at her, it's just something she pointed out about us Canadians, she said we tend to be more quiet during performances, and listen more to the lyrics. I think she has a LOT of fans up here, because that has got to be the most packed I&I I've seen, with more people waiting outside than I've ever seen on one of those MM I&Is (and this includes people like Bush, Sarah McLachlann, Silverchair, Foo Fighters & No Doubt). On an unrelated note, some guy in the audience had on a Bret "Hit Man" Hart T-shirt, the best wrestler in the whole WWF! Sorry, had to mention that. Anyways... I'd have to say one of the coolest parts of the show was during the middle of "Pieces of You" when she got to the line about the faggot...she just STOPPED in the middle of the song, and started talking to the audience for like 2 minutes, then continued as if nothing had happened! Overall, it was a great show, I loved it, and would give anything to see a live Jewel concert. Anyone think there's a chance she'll come to Halifax, Nova Scotia? A lot of other people did the same! I met Nathan and a few friends of his there, but these were the only EDA's we saw. We both came to a conclusion that we hate MuchMusic (befor you flame me let me explain!) You see we got there at 7:00 and found out that everybody who showed up with a poster or flowers for Jewel was automatically given a guess pass and let in. We tried to get in using the EDA shirt but no luck! So we were stuck standing in front of the window =( We also have to complain about MuchMusic and the fact that this one girl showed up at 8:30 got her question written down and was allowed to go right to the front on the window. MuchMusic was really picky about the questions too, you could ask anything you wanted to as long as it worked for them. Beside these few things Jewel had a great performance and it was worth standing in the crowd. by the way Nathan If you had of waited another 10 min you would have seen her get on her bus! While I don't know this for a fact, one can reasonably guess that, given their then-affiliation with the Mormon Church, Atz was then attending college ~15 miles up the road from Payson at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah (although like I say I don't know that for sure). The FAQ list goes on to say that when Atz finished college the Kilchers moved back to Homer, Alaska, where it says that Jewel spent most of her childhood. Rox lives in a mansion on Sunset Blvd., near the UCLA campus. Her address is 11060 Sunset, located "5 driveways east of Bentley" on the south side of the Boulevard. The nearest main intersections are Veteran on the west and Glenroy on the east. You can call Roxanne at 310.476.1818 and leave a message if you want to attend and/or perform. All are welcome. A suggested donation of ten dollars is asked to cover the expenses of what I'm sure will be a lovely presentation. Representatives from record labels, as well as some record producer-types, are expected to be there, too. Rox is working on getting a PA system right now. This could be very special indeed. By John Petric Lilith Fair at Polaris sunday was, essentially, a folk festival with a lot of fairly talented chicks at the helm, and about as much fun as a day at the local library. Oh I did appreciate the lack of drunken rioters. And yeah, the ratio of six girls to a dude was cool. And it was really great being around so much........sensitivity. Jewel made a stunning entrance singing the Gershwin classic Summertime, walking slowly and oh-so-sexily,wearing a nifty two-piece, tailored hot-pants-and-jacket outfit. Hubba, hubba, cousin Bubba. That the rest of her set was unexceptional, unremarkable and thoroughly overrated folk/pop made me hate myself for falling off my inner earth, watching her strut her steaming 20-something booty around that big ol' bad-@$$ stage. Clip there is a nice sized picture of her with the caption of Oh-so-sexy:Jewel at Lilith Fair the article goes on to describe the other acts but ends by saying clip The days lineup, however, lacked edge and it lacked greatness. And so I ask: Courtney Love and Joni Mitchell, where were you when we needed you. clip She's a person, not an object: when this shallow bastard sells five million records and has his own internet following , he may say what he likes, but until then... As much as I think Tammy's idea is interesting, I really think that the picks should be kept the same color until such a time as everyone who originally wanted one can get one. If we go changing the colors, then everyone who already has them will want the new ones too and we'll all more than likely end up short yet again. Grrr. I really think the pick sales need to be better handled- maybe a preorder system could be developed to ensure that folks who want picks can get them and at the quantity they have ordered. I'll even send in my money early. This will accomplish 2 things: 1) the Pick people will know how many to order. 2) Everyone who wants picks in certain quantities, can be assured they'll get their picks. I think if we can organize something like this, we can do the multi-color thing too, but it'd be preferrable first that EDAs like me who wanted picks can get them. ^_^;;;; Albert Wang Dark Seraph bahamude@user1.channel1.com Jewel Quotes and QTs http://hugse1.harvard.edu/~wangal/jewel.html Tara MacLean Gallery http://hugse1.harvard.edu/~wangal/tara.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Aug 1997 14:16:30 -0500 From: "elowe" Subject: voteing I went to MTV on line and wanted to vote for jewel but I don't know how you vote! It all began on thursday afternoon when Tegan, Tom and Rachel arrived at the Days Inn Hotel in Missassauga, now this hotel was *very* close the Toronto, lemme tell ya ;-) well it wasn't that bad :-) if you had a heavy foot on the gas pedal when driving on the highway towards Toronto, but anyways... I went to greet Tegan and Rachel at the hotel and tried to make some plans as Tom OBrien was sleeping, but of course EDA's trying to make plans is like pulling teeth... :-) I show Tegan how to get to the HorseShoe club where Holly McNarland was playing at and agree to meet there at 6-7pm. Well of course those plans didn't work out to well :-) I was late and Dan Stark, Steve Ito and some of his freinds were eating at a restaurant across the street, this left Tegan and Co. complaining all night :-P and Tom O and Rachel poking fun at how us Canadians tell time differently :-) Some interesting stuff that was seen was: - -When did it become cool to wear a roll of Tennis balls on your shorts? - -don't try to make conversation with a drunk asking for change.. - -try not to laugh at the people sitting next to you.. - -and finally, don't spend $3.40 trying to call Mia's cell phone from a phone booth when she's walkin passed me on the street :-) Finally we all meet at the HorseShoe and it seems like everything worked out after all, after the little phone call incident i got to meet Mia again :-) and Liz!!!! bout time i meet you Liz! :-) Bob Kolmeyer, Bob, really great to meet you!! and lemme tell ya, he came ready! :-) and of course how can i forget Eric, (shutup) ;-) So we're all there and all of us get in... except... Liz :-( the bouncers were really tight for some reason, so Steve and I.. well Steve came up with a workable plan, IF all parties involved followed through on what they were supposed to do.. I was supposed to wait near the back doors and leave them open so Liz could get in through the back, but.. she didn't... she was chicken!! i couldn't believe it ;-) well i don't blame her, her first time in a foreign country and she didn't wanna get in trouble with the Canadian authorities.. (HA!) Ok, well after that, Mia, Liz, Tom, and Rachel all went back to the hotel and hung out there. On to the show... The opening band was The Roach Motel, and they were surprisingly good :-) and Tegan will vouch for the bassist of the group :-)0 They were a cross between funk and punk i guess.. weird cool music :-) but just to tell you how local they were, they sang songs about stores just outside the venue :-) Now came Holly.. she is incredible, i was grooving along with Dan, Steve, Bob, and friends.. i kept saying to everyone after every song.. "this is my favourite, no wait, this is my favourite.. " etc.. :-) She gives out such energy that its really difficult not to like her, i suggest everyone take a listen to her, and if you're lucky enough, see her live! Later on in the night we decide to meet at the hotel with the others, i picked up a Holly shirt and poster for myself and then thought i should give away the poster to Liz cuz she couldn't see her.. and stupid me forgot to get one for Mia, Mia will you ever forgive me for forgetting the wine? :-) Me and Dan head out to the hotel to hang out for a while and then head back to Steve's where we were crashing, but we needed to find parking spots.. and this nightmare i wish not to recap, lets just say trying to find parking in Toronto late at night is *impossible* we went to sleep at around 6am if that's any indication... well on to Friday!! - -Gian (the long winded Canalian) Covello- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Aug 1997 15:48:37 -0400 From: "Wojtek Kowalewski" Subject: Lilith Fair poetry book request Hello people I attended the I&I yesterday and it was amazing (except for some of the cameramen, who were less than polite). Any way I hope every one enjoyed the show as much as I did. The reason for this post is to ask any one out there if they could pick up Jewel's poetry book for me at the Lilith Fair tour. I'll pay for the book and all the shipping. thanks Wojtek Kowalewski wojtekk@spanit.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Aug 97 08:28:07 GMT From: st_kuo@ix.netcom.com Subject: Re: NJC:Angelfood tape dilema--EDA vets please read The Angelfood exchange program (or whatever you call it) was originally initiated so that 1)Us EDAs can have the privilege to hear Jewel live in concert and 2)To eliminate bootlegging cuz it is not right and not fair for Jewel (it's her music..she deserves every penny earned through her songs). Unfortunately, perhaps some of us forgot about the second reason or have friends who see the Angelfood as profit. I think a warning about bootleg should be sent to everyone who receives any Angelfood. It would not only be a reminder but hopefully the next time they decided to sell it to cover their rent, their guilt will get the better of him/her.
