At any rate, her review demonstrates how impoverished a view one would have of the show if one was determined to rate these wonderful ladies against each other. They were all wonderful! If I was to give particular cudos for any particular artist at the Indy Lilith Fair, it would be to Lisa Loeb for having thew guts to come in front of the crowd with just herself and her guitar. But Jewel was hardly any last place finish. This is just garbage. The Lilith Fair was possibly the best concert I've been to in nearly twenty years of concert going--the only thing that could have improved it would be for it to be somewhere where they don't gouge you (to the tune of $6.50) for a slice of pizza and a coke. Mandryk" Subject: Scranton Lilith first i'd like to apologize to all the eda's that i accosted in my search for CJ (carl jamison). i arranged to buy tickets from him (never did manage it), and sort of jumped at the sight of an eda t-shirt. i'm terribly sorry for any unrest i may have initiated. second ... (this was my first jewel live performance). "down" was the best that i've ever heard it (her band really made it), and hope that it's on record somewhere. if anybody cringes at the deceptively-lackluster b+r "foolish games" record, last night's performance was well beyond spectacular (halfway through, it was all i could do to keep my binoculars from shaking off my face). interesting that (in the indigo girls' "closer to fine") jewel sang the part about spending "four years (of my life) prostrate to the higher mind, got my paper, and i was free," as every ounce of her heart recognizes emily's "exhaustion" there, but never experienced it. ... so many sentences wrapped 'round a single feeling, and she can belt a "lie" with as much truth as it'll ever hold. and they even incorporated a yodel into it ("closer to fine"). nifty. i couldn't hear "ywmfm," as some large-lunged munchkin behind me assigned her life to it's purest exhaustion (i.e., unpronounced high-pitched bellowing), but it looked like she enjoyed it (jewel. and the lilith fair goer too). oh yeah ... "angel standing by" was nearly flawless, and i'm sure she stole the breath of every chest there -- no one said a word. even made it through all of "jewel rocks the paradise" and my own (jewel) mix before i got out of the parking lot and into the hotel. crazy, awesome time. __oooooghh. i almost forgot. she even did some additional scat in wwsys - -- sort of like she does on "jrt paradise" (but not like "jeweltide carols") -- to my most, most anticipated smile. pv/Austin __________________________ Austin H. I think Sarah should definitely make Lilith Fair "female only". I don't think it would be the same if male artists get to perform in it as well. It would take the uniqueness away and it would become just another summer tour. No offense to those male artists but since there are tours that don't feature any females there should be one that don't feature males too. I hope that Jewel will return next year(and the next, and the next..) and I also want to see artists like Tori Amos, frente!, Veruca Salt, Nanci Griffith, and Tara MacLean(on the Main Stage this time) too. You can hear a "sample" of these artists on the Reader Free Line. The number is 233-9797 Then you have to use a four digit number: Gregory Page use 4001 then enter 855. Cindy Lee Berryhill and Elizabeth Hummel are 4008 and 854 and 862 It takes a while but it's a cool system. I have noticed they will change the tracks they "sample" too every couple weeks if you are interested. The Reader has complete instruction and tons more artists you can listen too. I kinda liked Kitten With a Whip under the alternative heading. I found out about this from the Star Log. It said that the time is still unsure of. I think it said they will have the time of when it starts tomorrow.
