Hi EDA's, I just found out that my "reply" addy was different from the one that I told people to respond to. Although the problem is corrected, my brother erased over a hundred(!!!) emails sent directly to me, from people on the list. I am really upset because sometimes I bugged people more than once to respond; this could have been why. To everyone who sent an email to me asking a question or responding to stuff like the yearbook to jc0097@usl.edu, or whatever it is, I am really sorry if you were waiting for a response...I never got them. If you send something from now on, it will come to the right place, so if you still "need answers," I will now get your mail, including those concerning the to-be EDA yearbook. And haaalf the time the traaaffic was there for stupid reasons--as Jon put it, someone would drop a quarter and everyone would haaave to stop to look at it :) Stuff like thaaaat...It was tiring and everything, but we made it fun! It got to the point where we were saying "f___ it, we're so late, who cares!" So we *finally* get there, late of course...I think Elizabeth was about haaalfway through her set...The trip up, which was supposed to be 7-8 hours, ended up taking 12, yes 12, hours. Pure hell...and Jon drove the whole time, which I am eternally grateful for. I really couldn't believe he did it...it must haaave been from talking in a mixture of European aaaccents to me for at least a haaalf hour! That made me laaaaugh, a lot!! What can I say, Jon will always be able to make me laaaaugh, always :) So Aaaaalan's show was really great, even though we didn't get to see it all! I got to meet some more people--the list owner, Jeff...Liz, Shelly, Duff--all of whom are really sweet--good solo, girls!! :) ...Chris Snyder, Maaaatt ??, forgive me if I don't remember everyone!! And it was great to see others thaaat I knew from previous gaaatherings! One highlight of the evening...Kim and I, "the girls"--who love to be around "the guys", sitting out in the baaack of the yard, going "baaaaa....baaaaa...baaaaa" till Dennis finally comes out of the house and says "baaaaa!!! now will you guys shut up?!" Thaaaat's all it took! So later we drive to the hotel...."east dennis, west dennis...you are now entering dennis..." What a night with Dennis, the baa baa baaastard!! I must say that dennis' show was the best of all the shows...don't know why, it just was...Kim and I had fun blowing the bubbles for Cindy Lee during the skip song, and for Elizabeth during "Sour Grapes" I just need to tell everyone right now about my Harris bubble blowing blaaack sheep sister, Kim. I love this girl so much. I just met her only a few weeks ago aaat Bearsville, and yet I feel like I've known her for years and years...we just haaave this really great sisterly vibe going...even Elizabeth said something to us about it! If you ever get to meet her, you will see why this girl is so special and wonderful, and she is one of my truest, dearest friends. I love her, and I don't know what I'd do without her :) Ok, so Dennis' show...like I said was the best...We bought Dennis this little sheep puppet aaaat the mall thaaaat we went to before the show, and it's name is Bubbles, in honor of Kim and I :) Aaaafterwards, we went to the Humpty Dumpty Diner...and Jon got to see the impatient side of me thaaat he was just in shock to see, I think :) Well hell, she wouldn't give me my damn donuts! And I was hungry!!! See Mark, I can eat a lot, aaask Kim--aaask her how much I ate tonight!! Then we said our goodbye's...I got hugs and hugs and more hugs from everyone--even Elizabeth and Cindy Lee...they are soooo great! I will miss them...aaaafter all, I went to 4 LRT shows! I haaaad the first shift of driving, and Jon saaaat up front to help keep me up while Mark and Kim craaaashed in the baaack. The store we stopped aaat didn't haaaave Mountain Dew, which shocked the hell out of me! So I haaad to survive on my own! I drove for a little over 3 hours, and then I started to get giddy, and started swerving, and speeding--"Woooaaahhh, slow down there, Sparky!" So Jon took over for about 3 and a haaalf hours, then Kim...I ended up getting baaack at 7 a.m., and i was dead, needless to say--but hey, it only took 7 hours, so who was I to complain, aaaafter that nice 12 hour trip up there!!! So thaaat was some bits and pieces of the weekend. Hope you enjoyed it!! There's more, but there just isn't enough space to tell you all about it, and I'm sure you know how thaaat is :) Can't wait to see you all again!!!!! Scrabble in the car. If we would have been keeping score...I would have won. It was EDA scrabble...my great word was "PUD" on a triple word score!! Right there the game would have been mine!! We pass a bus headed for the PA Corrections Dept, and Tom and Selena tell me to "show 'em your tits"....but I decided that would be a bad idea. More driving....are we there yet? I miss Dennis Harris that baaaaastard! "SUPER *8"!!!!!! ok, Selena, we see it, we see it!! stay in your seat!!! We check into our room...quite cozy....and have a message from the baaaastard himself. He and the Llama Queen and Larry are in P-town..but we didnt join them...we had done enough driving. Instead we went to Hyannis...to a Kareokee bar. Wow, I will never be able to listen to Stevie Nicks without thinking about how Tom did his version of Raianne (spelling). We go back to the motel and that baaastard and his cohorts are still not back...I fell asleep outside their door waiting for them..till Tom told me to go to bed... Saturday morning...breakfast at the "Pancake Man" it's less than a mile down the road according to Dennis. 3 miles later....4 miles....where the hell is this place?? It was so damn crowded..we went to Friendly's. Never sit with Dennis, Amy, and Mike in a restaurant...you will never get your food...they are cursed or something. Food was good nonetheless. Off to Alan's. We entered Dennis twice because we loved the feeling soo much. I think he liked it too, cos he was smiling the whole time. Uh oh...someone gave me a water gun..no one is safe now. Wow, so many new people, it was so great!! Allow me to introduce myself *squirt* hehee *snicker* The show was incredible, but can we go swimming afterwards?? Please?? Darn, no one will go. Oh well. "hey Ali, lets just sit in the baaaack of the yard and talk to Dennis who is inside the house" "ok" "baaaaaa" "baaaaaa" "baaaaaa" (this goes on for about 10 minutes) Finally Dennis emerges from the house, but no responce to his fan club. "baaaaaa" "baaaaaa" woohoo! One word from that Baaaaaastard was all it took "Baaaaaa, now will you girls shut up?" '"sure" wow, those people in the Chinese Restaurant must be bummed that 30 people all showed up at the same time. Oh well. John Reade, what is in that thing?? It looks really gross...are you gonna eat it? Baaaaaack to the Super 8. Party in the Baaaaastards room. Lets "throw pigs". Now is it just me, or is that the wierdest damn game ever?? What is a snouter , hoofer, or a razorback, anyway?? Oh well..off to bed Sunday morning. Check out time was 1/2 an hour ago..oops...we'll leave now. We need food..oh, look, Chilis. What a great looking waiter...he had a nice ass, and now he knows it too!! We left him a few sweet messages on the comment card. I think he will like it..what do you think? Ok, time to spare before going to Dennis/ the Tuttles. Lets go to the Mall and play video games. Ok sounds good. Hey Crunch, pass Bill...I got a surprise for him. Ok, what are you gonna do? I'm gonna flash him... I doubt he will respond at all. We pass him...and .....no responce from Bill....what a waste. Wow, a mall...We drive 9 hours to go to a mall. Lets get bubbles!! Ok..So Ali and I are off in search of a toy store! Kay-Bee!!! wow, only 51 cents!! sold!! Next store...lets buy a gift for Dennis cos we love him soo much!! A little sheep hand puppet with a blue ribbon?? It must be ours. Off to Dennis, sheep in hand. wow, what a great shirt Liz! The whole place was really cool! Cindy did the skip song, but this time..we were ready. With bubble wands ready, Ali and I took our positions. Wow, we're famous! Thanks to this weekend, Crunch lost his exclusive rights to us, and we are now the Harris Bubble Blowing Blaaaaack Sheep. Well, Crunch, you win some and you lose some. And you happened to lose big...losing Moshi Moshi Alibob as the president in chief must really hurt. hehehehe Off to Humpty Dumpty's. dont ask. Our poor waitress was ready to flip!! Muhahah...but doesn't that always happen when EDA's go out to eat?? Well, it's time to head home...hmmm....it's midnight now...that meams we might be home at 8am ish...eeewww. Ali takes the first shift, but was releived of her duties as she began swervin' all over the place. And what is up with not selling Mountain Dew in Mass??? huh? any ideas? oh well... Last shift driving is all mine..i'm hyper, and it's 5:30 am. Every one is home safely, and it's time for bed. Oops..no now it's time for work. Resume my normal life. For those of you planning to come to Toronto Thursday, the day before Lilith, here are the plans for the Holly McNarland show Thursday evening: I will be meeting Steve Ito, Gian Covello and anyone else who can make it at The Horseshoe club after 6pm. The club is essentially in the downtown area, at 368 Queen St. West, corner of Spadina. It is easily accessible by public transit, both the Queen and Spadina streetcar lines stop there, and those hook up with the subway. The Horseshoe is a relatively small tavern, that is split into a little front room, and a back room which is where the bands play. The doors to the back don't open until 9pm, but you can get into the front (until it fills up of course) before that. There is a real buzz going on here about Holly right now, she has a big Canadian radio hit and a video on muchMusic, so we're expecting it may sell out early. The show is only $6 Canadian, no advance tickets as far as I know. (compare that to $25 for cajun musician Buckwheat Zydeco the night before!!) The show is 19 & over. If the place is dead at 6:30 or so, we'll walk across the road to a Mexican restaurant called Tortilla Flats for a bite to eat. If it's filling up, we'll stay there and stake out our place in line, so come join us. I will wear a dark green t-shirt with a big white Texas Longhorn emblem on the front. Gian will have a fashionable NIN T-shirt on. If you're on the fence about coming out to this, get off it now! Holly has an EP and a new CD that both kick serious ass, and her live performance is a pure adrenaline rush. The little Horseshoe is going to be an awesome place to see this. 21-year-old Holly has a sweet, pretty voice with fabulous range, and her music is incredibly melodic and powerful. Some of her lyrics tend to be quite dark and the contrast between her delivery and the content is spectacular. FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: Everyone be sure to get to the Lilith shows EARLY. The shows *officially* start (and they are VERY punctual) at 4pm if not before, and the first artist up is Emm Gryner, another must-see, in the Village Acoustic area. Often main stage acts will put on a surprise performance on the INTIMATE village acoustic stage as early as 3:30pm. Steve Ito had the unfortune to miss Camille Henderson play the Village Acoustic stage at Canandaigua. Other main stage performers to put in surprise appearances have been Sarah McLachlan, Paula Cole, and Mary Chapin Carpenter to name a few. Factor in a LONG LONG wait to: a) drive in through a traffic jam b) park c) actually enter the venue (security and so on) last time it took like an hour longer than I expected Steve Ito says bring lawn chairs for the post-show tailgate party while we wait for the masses to leave! Some of us on irc have decided a good meeting place for the EDAs is the Nettwerk Records booth in the village concession area, between sets during the afternoon. I suggest you visit the Lilith website if you haven't already done so, for all the official details. http://www.lilithfair.com MONDAY! Thinking of staying in Toronto for an extra couple of days? Jewel will perform a live Intimate and Interactive special on Monday evening at 9pm at the MuchMusic studios, 299 Queen St. West (just east of the Horseshoe). These specials are generally held in a 'studio' area that is open to the outdoors, so even if you can't get into the building, it's easy enough to join the crowd on the sidewalk/street outside and watch it happen. Often the VJs will walk out into the crowd outside and take questions for Jewel from the audience. If you want to try to weasel your way in, why not try calling MuchMusic at 416-591-5757 and ask (maybe tell them you're a member of the internet fan club or whatever), the worst they can do is say no! I think that's it for tonight. Hope to see many of you at the shows! We'll be watching for blue ribbons and Jewelstock & EDA T's! (Think about it people, we're getting pissed at someone who's dream is probably to be promoted to the Fashion Department. Lets keep things in perspective.) 1. If a reporter does not like Jewel's actions in relation to her music, he/she has every right to comment on it. We should let Jewel know that caving in to labels ticks people off. I was really disappointed when she let them push the release of the new album back, and I'm not going to say "Oh, it's Jewel, she's perfect, so it's okay. Blame the label". Labels take the blame too, but lets not make artists exempt from criticism. Record execs are supposed to be concerned with money. That's why they were mostly Business Majors, people! 2. Jewel is, in some respects, a "lightweight". Meaning people with one album out do not have the same tenure as those with many, or those who have been around the national scene for a while. Jewel has been around a good time, but not in a huge, mass-market way, as Sarah McLachlan has been in Canada and the US for years. But to hear the press now, the chronology of women in music went from Alanis to Jewel to Tori and Ani and Sarah. Pardon my French, but that is pure fumier du taureau. To be fair, I also must point out that I hate it when bands/artists release a lot of singles. I don't even like it when the Fine Young Cannibals, who are known for remixes, start releasing more versions of "She Drives Me Crazy". So I guess that makes me biased, too. - --Josh, an EDA who thinks cynicism has its place "...But you hate people." "Yet I love gatherings. Congratulations Mandy! I'm glad Jewel finally got them! I'm sorry to have some bad news relating to the picks. When I got back from my month long trip to California, I went through my backlog of 2988 email messages to put all messages requesting EDA picks in a separate folder. I felt bad that I had taken so so long to respond to people's requests. When I originally went to California, I thought that I was only going for about a week but it turned into about a month. During that time the picks were distributed and since I was one of the people who paid to make them, I was sent some to distribute. Then, last Saturday, as I was going out the door to go to the Lilith Fair, I thought "Oh, I should take the picks with me" so that I could give them to any EDAs that I saw there. Well, toward the end of Jewel's set, I reached in my bag to take out two to give to two EDAs who were sitting in the row ahead of me and discovered that the picks weren't there. I freaked! I unzipped every compartment of my bag and discovered that there was a hole in the bag that they must have fallen out of. I searched all over the floor where we were sitting, hoping that maybe they were there but no luck. I'm going to ask Mandy what we can do. I know that there was discussion about ordering more so, if that's possible, I'll pay to have more made. I'm sorry for the delay and I'll do everything I can to get more made as soon as possible. To all of you who emailed me requesting picks, I have all of your messages saved in a folder. I will send you all free picks as soon as I can get Mandy to order more. "I was having a sinus infection, and I said, 'Can you get me the doctor that they have there?'" Sobule tells allstar correspondent Bill Snyder. "He came up to me and was saying, 'You know, I've never seen you, but I have to tell you' -- he was giving me such great service -- 'My daughters, my wife, everyone loves you so much. You're their favorite singer.' I'm like, my God, this is pretty cool. He's like, 'anything you need,' and he gave me painkillers and all this stuff. (Hmmm, Jill, what stuff ??) He goes, 'Can I have your autograph?' And I had to sign like four different autographs. He was going to send one [to a daughter] in college and one somewhere else. [Then] he goes, 'Thank you Jewel, so much.' And I thought, the funniest thing is, when his kids get those autographs, it's going to be like, 'Who is this?!?' But I bet I wouldn't have gotten such good service or the painkillers if it had been just me."... Is that what you meant...being in the closet? Anyway, I like that video. BTW, Fiona isn't gay is she? I really don't think so but I'm not an authority on Fiona Apple anyway. Hey Angels!!!! Right now I'm just too tired after a weekend of canoeing and yesterday's August 12 Pittsburgh/Burgettstown Lilith Fair concert to file a detailed report, but, just briefly for any of you going to the Scranton show today (Aug. 13), you oughta know... IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!! SHE DID A GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!! The set was kind of neatly divided into three little sets, "Summertime"/"Near You Always"/"Satellite"/ "Morning Song"; "Love Me Just Leave Me Alone"/"Dancing Barefoot"/+ one other electric guitar song (I have no Angelfood and am not well-versed in her not-yet-released songs); and "WWSYS"/"YWMFM"/"FG"; followed by "Angel Standing By" to wrap it all up... ...and all of them worked!!!!! Worked REAL WELL!!!! It was just a REALLY GOOD SHOW that hopefully is very typical of the performances that she's been giving!!!!! The "divisions" of her set are not formal constructs, but were just easy ways of marking the transition from her slower, softer songs (the first four listed above), to the point where she picked up her electric guitar, did three songs with that AND REALLY ROCKED OUT IN SO DOING (she should be proud of the way that she plays electric, it went very well, went over very well, and got good reviews), and then, going back to acoustic, ending with very good performances of the songs that she's expected to play everywhere (not that there's anything wrong with that!), WWSYS, YWMFM, and Foolish Games. "Angel Standing By" was about the best way to end a set that was entirely too short (...as were most of the sets at Lilith Fair, but I guess that that's to be expected what with all of that talent and so little time)--almost like an encore without it being an encore (I guess most EDAs are familiar with that song--it's a great ending). All in all, everything in Jewel's performance went very well (as did all of the others, as a matter of fact:) ). Jewel was not through for the evening after her set, for the record and in case anyone is going "only" to see her. The very last act was Indigo Girls, who sang some of their songs (obviously) and then invited all of the other performers to join in with them on their song "Closer To Fine". Jewel sang one verse there and yodeled another, and that went very well too :) Like I said earlier, I don't have the time or energy right now to go into greater detail--maybe I will in another day or so :) Not even the massive downpour that happened right in the middle of Jewel's set, which blew in and soaked even those of us who were under the pavilion, could take away from the truly great job that she (and the others) did last night. In fact, the gods of lightning and goddesses of thunder themselves must have been watching Jewel with approval--in the song "Foolish Games", at the exact point where she sings "You took your coat off/And stood in the rain", at that exact point, is when it started to rain in on all of us!!!!! :) I heartily suggest going to the Lilith Fair, getting there early, and enjoying it if you haven't already gone and are still thinking of doing so :) HEY JEWEL, THANKS--YOU AND ALL THE OTHERS PUT ON A GREAT SHOW!!!!! (More to write on this, maybe:) ). Greg :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Aug 1997 22:47:52 DST From: pres2@juno.com (Phillip a brady) Subject: Re: Unplugged?
