From looking at their website (www.klru.org) it seems that their new season will not start before Jan 31, 1998. They list repeats through Jan 24. This looks like the regular season for Austin City Limits, late January through late April. So, as far as I can determine, Jewel will not be appearing before Jan 31. As yet, they don't have a 1998 season schedule posted. It's a long wait but I'ms sure it will be worth it. I found out recently that Tara will be opening for Dee Carstensen (a wonderful folk-rock-harpist) on November 7th in Somerville MA at the Somerville theater. This should be a wonderful show but something that makes it extra special is that people on Everyday Angels are getting special seating. If you by the tickets by mail order before the end of the month you will be given priority seating in the 2nd or 3rd row. If you are interested e-mail me and I'll send you the details. I know at least 4 EDAs are already planning on coming. Also I just found out Tara is plying in Faneuil(SP) Hall Marketplace in Boston on August 27th. She is part of a show put on by Sam Goody. The schedule goes like this. 12:00 Push Stars 12:30 Tara MacLean 1:15 Leah Androne Hope everyone who goes has a great time. Talk to you soon. There is a Japanese Issue of POY coming out shortly-I believe at the end of August- that has new artwork and 2 bonus tracks: "Emily" and the video version of "You Were Meant For Me." I've been seeing a lot of posts about the "Limited Edition" US Release of POY. Here is some info: Everyone should know that "Limited Edition" is aka "We're trying to make it seem like this album is rare by putting LE on it when it actually can be found almost anywhere." It IS a collector's item but there is no need to go crazy trying to find it because there is plenty to go around. I bought eight of them -six of them were gifts. The easiest way to get the album is to special order it through any local record/CD store. To be honest though most record stores in LA didn't have it but in San Jose I found at least twenty of them. I don't know if this was posted but the Jewel Rolling Stone's Promo Poster is now being sold in most record chains... at least in California. I have several of them which I got free but they're usually going for eight bucks. I also found Jewel's "Hard Rock Live" Press Kit which wasn't too expensive. I didn't buy the "Unplugged" Press Kit and the next day it was gone... Also found was her "Foolish Games" Promo 1 track single. If any Jewel collectors know what her "You Were Meant For Me" French Album Edit 1 track promo CD looks like email me privately. It supposedly has rare cover art on it. Thanks and have fun searching... BTW: Nice to see Kris Kane posts again. Hope you had fun here in California. Hope to meet up soon again... Then proceeds to > downplay Jewel's songwriting and singing talents by calling her "lightweight" and her >conventional lyrics. I read the review, and while it pissed me off greatly (the guy is VERY biased against Jewel, and uses his personal feelings in what should have been an objective review) I have to agree with the person on the list who said that we can't defend Jewel each time someone puts her down. Jewel bashing is inevitable at this point- what with her escalating fame, a backlash is bound to happen. For every 10 people who love her, there are 10 more who don't. Actually, it doesn't really matter, cause we as her fans know that her music can be "lightweight" and it can be heavy, poetic, and meaningful as well. That's why she's ...... Jewel. She doesn't fit a certain mold, which is great, and if the reviewer doesn't see that, then he should just take a hike. Her poetry and songs may sound young and idealistic......and it's great that she doesn't have to be on an angst filled trip like Alanis or Fiona in order to be popular. WE get something from her music......a stupid, biased review by a jaded, cynical reviewer is not going to change that. Jewel is deep, that's a talent and a skill. Anyhow, I like that she wore jeans and that shiny/silky type blue top. I don't really care for the "Rock Fest look" with high heals and shorts. I like the innocent look, like jeans, tennies, no make-up, you know? I was glad to see Big Blue in use. My shoulders cringed up when I hear Regis mention Yodeling. I wonder if Jewel will ever just say "no". Was it just me or did Jewel seem to just move on quickly as she sang WWSYS. Seemed like she just wanted to get it over with because she had to. In the beginning of the R & KL show, KL said "That Jewel is really getting on my nerves..." when they showed Jewel on the cover of Time and Rolling Stone. KL seemed really rude and arrogant to Jewel, but Regis was pretty nice. The show was recorded soon after POY went platinum, so it was before Jewel became a really well known artist. I just got back from the Pittsburgh Lilith Fair. I had the BEST time. It was such an experience for me, one like I have never experienced before. (that all happened during Jewel's set though). Anyways, to tell my story of the day. Bill (rael@surfnetwork.com) called me at like noon to tell me he had made it to Cranberry. So, I went to meet him and he followed me back to my house. We left almost right away...after my mom and I ran around the house looking for everything we had realized we forgot to get ready. Finally, we got to Eat N' Park where we THOUGHT we were going to meet up with some of the other EDA's. It didn't happen that way. My mom, Bill and I ate by ourselves and HOPED that some others would show up, but they didn't. That was all good though, cause we had a good time anyways. We got to the show and saw Patty Griffin almost as soon as we got there. After her short set, I went to get her autograph and I asked her if she knew of any way that I could get something to Jewel. I showed her the box that I had with the 130 EDA picks for her in and everyone that was there was like "OOOHHHH...". This guy was standing next to her and he was like "I'll ask her road manager about getting you backstage." Then I talked to him and gave him my name and stuff. He said to meet him at the second stage at 5:00pm where Patty would be playing again. We were supposed to meet up with EDA's at 4:00 at the village stage, but that didn't happen either. Bill was wearing his EDA shirt, so we figured that we wouldn't be TOO hard to spot. We walked around and my mom and I drug Bill to all the little shops while I tried on dresses and stuff. Then we went over to see Patty again. After her show, the guy grabbed me and was like "haven't talked to him yet, wait here". Then he left and came back like five minutes later. He told me to wait outside of the backstage doors and he'd be right back. While we were waiting, Bill showed up with Ashley (kisses from jewelbug) and her friend Rachel. I was pretty excited to at least get to meet up with her. I knew how excited she was to be there, since it was her first time seeing Jewel too. The guy came back, but didn't have good news. Jewel seemed to be lost or something. He said that he talked to her road manager and that he didn't even know where she was at. That sometimes she is all over the place at shows and others she can't be found..like today. So, he gave me his card (his name was Michael Baker) and took my phone number. He took the picks and said that he would do his best to give them to her directly because he said that if anyone in her crew got it that she may not get them right away. So, he said he would either meet me back at that place right after Sarah McLachlan or he would call me and leave a message on my machine. We went back after Sarah and he wasn't there. So, we went back to the grass to watch Jewel. Bill and Ashley went to Bill's seats to watch the show and me and Rachel joined my mom back on the grass. Jewel came on and I just got chills all through me. It was just SO wonderful, I didn't expect to feel that way about it since I have been to so many concerts. Jewel just effects me differently though, I guess. They had these screens on the roof that covers some of the seats, so we kept watching them trying to see her picks. We saw them SO many times...I KNOW that they were OUR EDA picks! They were the pale yellow, just like ours. We saw that on one side they had a design....then they showed her from the other side and we saw that they were designed on both sides. So, I KNEW that they were ours. Cause how many pale yellow picks does she use that have stuff on both sides? Plus, you could tell that there was writing on one side and a picture on the other. Her set went like this: Summertime Near You Always Satellite Morning Song Down Love Me Just Leave Me Alone Dancing Barefoot WWSYS YWMFM Foolish Games Angel Standing By We were waiting for the rain to come all night and during Foolish Games, it did. A HORRIBLE rainstorm broke out. Everyone was covering up, but I just stood in it and let it soak me. When she sang the "stood in the rain" part...everyone cheered and then the lightning started. It was an incrediable set and I just loved every second of it (even when my eyes where stinging so bad from the hair spray that was running in them). After her set, we caught up with Ashley and Bill and said goodbye to Ash and Rachel. We sat in my mom's car soaked to the bone for the 45 minute trip home (that I turned into over an hour because I HAD to use the facilities in Dairy Queen). So, we get home finally and it's time to say goodbye to Bill who is off for Scranton to see her again tommorrow. (Thanks SO much for my first angelfood Bill!! I'm listening to it right now!!!) When I got in the door, I ran to the answering machine. The first message was from Michael Baker!! He gave the picks DIRECTLY to Jewel. He said he explained the whole story to her and made sure she saw the letter that I put in there too. So, now I have NO doubt in my mind that those were our picks! I wish I could have given them to her myself, but I think that this was the best I could do. I wanted her to have them for the show I was going to be at and she did and she used them...so that makes me VERY happy tonight. I'm going to call Michael tommorrow and thank him for everything he did for me. Well, sorry that this got so long...but, I wanted to end the saga of the guitar picks and let everyone know that Jewel got them and apparently likes them. So, whoever is going to shows in the future....check it out and see if she's using ours! I Love All you guys! And VERY big thanks to everyone who helped me with the guitar picks..your work has not gone unrecognized, I included the names of all those who contributed in the letter that I gave to her. Don't you just love the feeling when you haven't posted in awhile and then all of a sudden it seems like you have so much to say? Well, here goes... I took my sister to the airport on Sunday and heard Foolish Games on the radio (it was number 2,397,172,187 something on Rick Dee's countdown :P). But better news, all the radio stations here are kind of slow, and they've just really started playing Foolish Games and everyone loves it :). I was listening to 103.7 here in Birmingham on the way back from shopping tonight and it was #8 on the top 9 at 9. So anyway, the DJ comes on and says how since they started playing it people are calling in and requesting it 24/7. I still haven't seen the video because I never watch TV. Is the FG video on one of those music station countdown things (MTV, VH1, ect.)? If so, can someone let me know when they air them? Thanks. Someone wrote to the list wanting to know what was up with Pablo Neruda, so I wanted to say something about that. I discovered Neruda in October of my freshman year of high school (about 10 months ago) in my Spanish II class. We had a substitute teacher and our school had just gotten hooked up to the internet (which was my whole big project), so our sub told me and the other kids in my class (there were only 4 of us) and look up Spanish related stuff. So I went to yahoo and was browsing around and came upon some Neruda poetry sites. So I went to one and instantly fell in love. You should definitely check him out. I was reading a Vogue or an Elle magazine a few months ago and they had a picture spread of different kinds of kisses...very romantic. Under one of the pictures they had a Neruda quote..."I love you, and my happiness bites the plum of your mouth." I tore the page out and hung it on my wall. Okay woah...I rambled...sorry for such the long post. One more thing.. .is it just me or is the letter volume increasing again? Just a random observation. Thanks for reading this (if you made it this far). - -Caroline, the Innocent Angel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Aug 1997 23:46:59 -0400 From: "Miguel A. Gonzalez" Subject: Fwd: STOP! Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Hey. Here's a little gossip for you and the list; the venue for Jewel's show out here isn't set yet. According to the Tussey Mountain Amphitheater, the show will either be at the Eisenhower Auditorium on campus (indoors) or on Tussey Mountain (outdoors). Tussey is fighting with the University Concert Committee over who gets the show and (according to Tussey Mtn.) it's about money. Which means either Jewel's booking agent is trying to get a bigger chunk of the take or there's a bidding war over Jewel. I'd go for the second possibility. And contrary to Mr. BB's show list, there is no "College Town, PA". The show Jewel did on the HUB lawn was a couple of years ago, too. Dear EDA's, Please dont laugh at me but i think we should try to get Jewel to do a concert for the EDA's after she is done touring. I heard that a lot of you went to JewelStock. Well now there are a ton more EDA's now. I was not able to make it to any of the lilith fair, and iv never seen Jewel in concert or even seen her anywhere else besides TV, and i really want to see her sing and im sure there are a lot of EDA's who would love to have her do a concert to. Many EDA's like myself. Anyone agree with me? Well thats all. - -Brian ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Aug 97 19:22:49 GMT From: st_kuo@ix.netcom.com Subject: Wanted: Jewel videos Hi!
