It was just her and her guitar. She was pretty good :) She of course sang most of her songs from "Tails" and I believe a new one. I don't really remember. Her last song of course was "Stay" :) This was a really short set..only around like 35 minutes or so. After this Farr and I went back to the Nettwerk booth. Farr was gonna try to get that backstage pass from Jay again :) No luck again :) So Farr and I decide to hang around the VIP entrance. Maybe someone cool might go out of it or something :) While we were there, we finally find Carrie!!! Woo hoo! :) Then guess who shows up too? It's Will! :) Cool! Farr gets out his EDA poster and tells Will to sign it. Carrie and I already signed it from Rockfest. I had to trace mine over cuz I didn't use a good pen last time :) Well..while we were signing the poster. Some girl asks us who we were with. She thought we were important people or with a band or something. I was about to say that I was in NIN but nah....she wouldn't believe me. hehe ;) :) Well....I did get really close to the door and while some people were leaving and stuff. I did see the top of Sarah Mclachlan's head :) Well no luck in getting to see anyone come out of it :) We miss Emmylou Harris's set but it's okay..We got to hang out with Will and Carrie for a while :) Whoa...it's 8 now and Joan Osborne is coming up. We better get back to our seats. Joan kinda dyed her hair lime green. She kinda looked like that girl from white zombie who plays the guitar :) I was like expecting Rob Zombie to bust out singing "More Human Than Human" ;) :) Joan was really cool!! There was deep kicking bass!! She sounded great!!! I have no idea what songs they were but they sounded really cool :) There was also a guy on a turn table in some of her songs. Whoa...cool :) She really rocked! :) Right after her set we gave her a standing ovation...well..Farr and I did that so we could see if we could find closer seats :) We did but everytime we asked people they said someone was sitting there already. Oh well :) ********************************Jewel content***************************** Jewel's set is coming on now and we get back to our seats. I really don't remember in order what she sang. :/ The songs were Satellite, NYA, Don't, SIBTW, Last Dance Rodeo, YWMFM, Love Me just leave me alone, cold song and some others :) It was a great performance! This is my second time seeing her. Woo hoo!! :) She was just so freaken cool! :) She didn't sing any new stuff though but it was okay :) The audience really loved Cold Song! Well they loved all her songs! :) When LMJLMA came on...I was like "What's the title to this song Farr?" I can't believe I didn't know the title. I then beat myself up for being a sucky EDA :) Farr then says the title of the song is "Saw you standing there" Farr was wrong!! So I beat him up too. ;) :) Then came the chorus...Love me just leave me alone. DUH! :) I can't believe I didn't know the title. I really wanted her to do song requests but she didn't. I would have yelled out "Run Tonto Run!!!!" Oh well..maybe next time when i see her I'll ask her if she will sing it for me :) A dude can dream can't he? :) YWMFM was really good...I was expecting her to do the rocked out version like she did at Rockfest but she didn't..oh well :) Her last song was Amen. She told everyone in the audience to be quiet and if your neighbor was talking to tell them to shut up :) Well during the performance some people were still kinda yelling/screaming. Farr tries to say something to me...but I told him to shut up and I beat him up for not being quiet..hehehhe Damn it Farr!!! Didn't you hear what Jewel said? hehe *kidding with all that* :) After the last song everyone gave her a standing ovation for like 5 minutes. She did an encore of WWSYS. Really cool!!!. After Jewel's set, NIN came on!!! Woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!! And damn they were really cool!!!! Time to mosh!!!! Oh wait....they weren't there. hehehehe *kidding* :) Sarah was next!!!! Yes!!! :) She sang most of her songs off FTE. Like Possesion, Hold on, and some others. She also sang some really old ones too. Her husband was on drums. I didn't know that until Farr told me. During the little breaks between songs, some fan sitting really close yells out if she could sign an autograph. She says "If I give you an autograph, then i would have to sign autographs for everyone..then I would have no time to sing any songs" :) Sarah's really cool!! :) The back up singer for Sarah was really a babe! She was cute! :) I think I looked at her more than I looked at Sarah. :) I was like forget Sarah...take pictures of that back up singer girl ;) :) Farr ran up to Derrick (Damn him for getting 5th row seats ;) :) ) and told him to get some pictures of her. Cool :) Well...anyways :) Sarah's performance really was cool!! The back up singer made it even BETTER! heheh :) I really hope she comes back to Houston some day :) Sarah I mean :) Sarah also got a standing ovation and did an encore of "Ice Cream" She brought out her dog on stage. Which was really cool of her :) She told us to sing along with her..but the only part of it I really knew was "Your love is better than ice cream" :) After the show..all the EDAs meet at this one place and we all drove to an IHOP. I didn't eat with them though :/ It's now like 1am and I'm getting tired. Whoa...me getting tired? :) This is not like me but I really am..I had to be at my uncle's store at 8am to help him out and stuff. I said my see you laters and I went home. Meeting everyone was really great!!! I met 6 new EDAs!!! (Mindi, Amber, Will, Stacy, Karyn, and Brian :) and saw Derrick (Damn him for getting 5th row tickets ;) :) ), Farr, Sean, and Carrie again :) It is quite a trip when you finally meet someone in person from the list. It is really cool! :) I really had a good time. I hope to see you all one day again. :) EDA in Houston who thinks EDAs are the best :) Tien "Without you....Everything falls apart Without you....It's not as much fun to pick up the pieces"-NIN ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Aug 1997 17:52:17 -0400 (EDT) From: Gibba13@aol.com Subject: morning song Hey all, I was watching tv the other night and noticed a movie called Henry and June (it had Uma Thurman, Kevin Spacey, and a couple other people.) Near You Always (semi-a capello) Deep Water I'm Sensitive (btw, I heard a LOT of cheering when she sang the "Everyday Angels" line--good job, folks) Morning Song ? (new song, methinks. A real rocker.) Love Me, Just Leave Me Alone (great!) Take You Down? She may have run out of time, therefore the exclusion of WWSYS and yodeling--or she may simply be tired of them...I'd seen them before live so I didn't really mind. Jewel, if perchance you're reading--good show! I highly recommend the Lilith Fair experience--this year or next. I had to drive abt. 6 hours to Atlanta, but it was well worth it. I also really enjoyed Alana Davis, who played on the Acoustic stage. Her first album will be out in September. Might want to check it out. Shelly Liz and I piled into my car and headed for Indianapolis, making really great time. On the way, Shelly revealed her secret desire: "I want Greg!" We arrived and Chris & Mike were already there (great to see you again Mike!) and Chris had brought some real Chicago style pizza.. mmm. Hunter soon arrived (nice finally meeting you!!! Where's the popsicles??) and I gave him his Rare Angels tape. More people came as the night progressed... great to see you all. Soon after, Cindy Lee and Elizabeth showed up and we sat down and ate some food and chatted. Pretty soon it was time to hit the stage, Elizabeth going first. She played my request of 'Ocean' (I've seen her twice & requested this song twice... no it's not my favorite :) ) and LOTS of new stuff, surprisingly. In fact, the only album songs she played was Eloise, Ocean, and of course The Goodwill Store. Cindy Lee was a fantastic performer as usual, taking over Greg's living room with style & finesse... They told us of the interesting radio interview they had had earlier in the day in Cincinatti. Anyone who taped this (fish family?) give us the lowdown because it sounds like it was hilarious. Apparently the interviewer kept asking questions about Jewel, and if Cindy Lee and Elizabeth were lesbians, and more questions about Jewel. Cindy Lee replied to a question seeking inside info about Jewel by saying "Well, I started learning how to play the piano a few months ago, and Jewel just bought a piano." LOL! This is just an example how great it is to hang out with these guys. And interesting fact: with Greg and his wife as Sci-Fi fans/authors (respectively) it was really cool to see how up on it Cindy Lee was especially. They were spouting off names and Cindy Lee would quickly reply with a "I know him!" or a "Yeah I've read that." Very cool, and in honor of the decoration of the Living Room she played a haunting solo version of "UFO".. cool. It's really really hard to describe what it's like being at a LRT date. All I can say is, if there's one coming up any where you live, GO TO IT!!!!! Liz and Shelly's is tomorrow. If you live in Ohio, Michigan, or Indiana I expect you to be there, darnit. This is the first time in 6 months that EDAs have taken over Liz and Shelly's house so here's your chance if you missed it the first time. Cindy Lee and Elizabeth hung out afterward to chat, sign stuff and look at Elizabeth's promo ad in the January 6 1996 issue of Gavin magazine. We chatted about dulcimers and tunings and promotions but I really had to get home to work at 8:30 in the morning. So, we said our goodbyes and headed home.. I walked in the door at 5:00 yet somehow managed to get on IRC to say a quick hi and in bed in 2 minutes, flat. The story of Henry Miller and Anais Nin has been told several times. Both Miller and Nin were writers and they both chronicled their affair--Nin in her published diaries and Miller, more subtly, in some of his novels. I think that both of them were married to other people when they met and fell in love, a situation that eventually kept them apart which is why in Morning Song Jewel says: "You can be Henry Miller and I'll be Anais Nin/Except this time it'l be even better,/We'll stay together in the end." It's references like this that make Jewel's music so expressive. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 06 Aug 1997 17:04:20 -0700 From: Gerrit Kruidhof Subject: [Fwd: New Jewel Songs?] This is a multi-part message in MIME format. - --------------03E70A8A909C7B66DF3EA646 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit - --------------03E70A8A909C7B66DF3EA646 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Message-ID: <33E910D2.7C7B7128@vbix.com> Date: Wed, 06 Aug 1997 17:03:30 -0700 From: Gerrit Kruidhof Organization: Halcyon Software X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.01 [en] (WinNT; I) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: MikeDreams@aol.com Subject: Re: New Jewel Songs? Hi everyone, Last night I went to Greg Dunn's house for his Living Room Tour. Shelly, Tim, and I got there at, well I don't remember!!!! But anyway, we got there and met up with Mike and Chris from Illinois, and greeted Greg and Toni. Some more people arrived, then quiet Hunter came with his mom (both of whom are very cool!!!!). Pretty soon, we were sitting in the driveway when all of a sudden a car pulled up. The person in the driver's seat waved. Shelly waved back, and we all wondered who in the world these people were. "Oh my god!!," I sighed, "it's them!" Cindy Lee and Elizabeth got out of their car and headed over to us. Shelly started to introduce herself, and then she said, "this is my sister Liz who you've already met". They were like Liz!!! They didn't recognize me with my blue and red hair. We got our hello hugs out of the way, helped them carry everything in, and then we feasted upon genuine pizza from Chicago, courtesy of Chris!! It was DELICIOUS!! Oh yeah, and Cindy Lee and Elizabeth told us all about their interview that morning in which the radio people asked all kinds of perverted questions, and wanted to know all about Jewel! AFter that, I went outside and joined Toni blowing bubbles. Pretty soon, Shelly, Sharron(singer in Toni's band), and Rusty were blowing smoke bubbles. Cindy Lee and Elizabeth joined in on the fun, and then we headed inside. The girls started their show, and they rocked!! I love those two so much!! They are so sweet!!!! Shelly and I bopped along to the music, and I don't think a smile ever left my face. Elizabeth sang "Eloise" which is my favorite song from her CD. She also sang "The sky is the limit" in which she sings about Toledo. That was really cool. Oh, yeah, during the soundcheck Elizabeth was singing about how she was in "Greenfield, just like Larry Greenfield" Shelly and I both started clapping....we love you my big kookybaka!! hmmmm.....after Elizabeth played we had a lil break in which I hit my funnybone rolling down the hill in Greg's backyard. Then Cindy Lee came on and sang the skip song. She was cracking us up...dancing all around and stuff. She even read us some of her manuscript. Oh yeah and she sang us a little bit of her dinosaur song that her classical guitar teacher hated. It reminded me of my self when I was younger, because I was the dinosaur genius in the family...I still have all my videos on them! Anyway, after Cindy was done, Elizabeth came back and they sang Aquamarine, Goodwill Store, and Radio Astronomy. Man I love them!! They are just so awesome!!! Well, we left soon after the show for our 3 hour drive home.....we got home a little after 4 am. ugh! I had such a wonderful evening and I am waiting in anticipation for my show tomorrow night!!! Oh yeah, have I mentioned that I love them???!!! Alright, I have talked for entirely far too long...I love you!! See you tomorrow!! Ok well this past Monday I went to the Lilith Fair in Dallas- I had the most wonderful time! I wish I could do it over and over again! Well I went with my friend Courtney and my Mom and her best friend Pat. Courtney and I spent most of the afternoon trying to figure out ways to sneal backstage-ooo so bad! JK (Jewel Kilcher hee hee) Well we thought this one door would get us to it- but no we ended up in the parking lot instead oops! Well anyways when we went to go see Joan Osbourne- she was before Jewel- and it was so cool! There were these two girls dancing, and some sercurity guards tried to stop them- so Joan stops her song and yells at the sercurity guards to let the girls dance! YEAH go girl! hee hee- and they still had to sit down so Joan said to give them back stage passes-ooooo did Corey get jealous! Jealousy just filled me throughly-oooo was I mad!!! But I'm sure they will never forget that- and it was a good message she sent out =). So they probably met Jewel-ooooo the jealousy returns! eeks! Ok but on with the story.....well then Jewel came out!!! Yeah!!! she looked like an angel! 0=) As soon as she started to sing- I just started sobbing! I was so happy to see her! eeks! I mean to see someone that you only see in two dimensions- someone who helps you through the day, and makes you believe in angels- well its just so spiritual! hee hee...She sang a lot of rocked up songs, but I loved her new song Stranger- was that really new? I had just never heard it- so pretty- and when I heard her sing Angel Standing by-ooo her voice was just so so beautiful! Words cannot describe..... Well That was the last song- so Courtney and I left and tried to find another way back stage when we heard she had already left for the airport =(- she had to go back to LA for their day off to finish some kind of business. Well to make a long story short- Pat asked a lot of the security and moving people about Jewel what airport she was at and stuff- and well we decided to go back to where the touring buses were- just incase we could find out something about where Jewel was- hee hee- no we are not stalkers! Well of course the tour buses were behind security so we just sort of waited when HE came out!! Oh gosh- it was Craig- Jewel's electric guitar man in her band! He was so nice and sooo sweet! and he's the one who told us about Jewel going to LA- and a few other stuff- and guess what he gave Courtney and I? Give up? Well too bad- I'm not going to tell ;)! No JK (HA~Jewel Kilcher) He gave us guitar picks (pics?) That Jewel herself had used! WOW- I was soo happy! (hey I'm fourteen! Jewel is like the pretend big sister that I never had =( hee hee everyone now thinks I'm bananas- oh just everyone go- ooohhhh poor kid! no one she can talk to- through those difficult years of adolescents =( Oh phuleeze! hee hee!) Ok well I was just so happy I asked if I could hug him! He said yes and well ha ha everyone I HUGGED CRAIG!!!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!! he is sooo sweet! I wish I could meet him again! Well I have to go read those three other books for school that I waited until the last week of summer before school starts to read! eeks! love u angels always!!!!! 0=) Corey Amber P.S. I also met a really great EDA guy! He was so sweet helping with the uh...hmm. something rights group! oh now I feel bad eekers! I even forgot his name =( Oh great! Well he was really nice! I am terrible with names! EEKS! P.P.S. Courtney and I also wrote Jewel a note on this post card thingy they were giving out- it had noses on the front- and it told which kind of personality you would have with each diffferent kind of nose! Well we thought she'd like it- cause you know about her thing with noses! We gave it to an all access person- and she said she would give it to Jewel! Yeah!! I hope she got it! Ok sorry I know I took a lot of space! eeks! I'm really going now! buh bye 0=)- Corey THE END ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Aug 1997 21:04:39 -0500 From: mmilner@edgenet.net (matthew milner) Subject: Tape trading list page is up Hello angels, The first draft of "Recipes for Angelfood" the Jewel tape trading page is up. Check it out at http://www3.edgenet.net/mmilner/jewel.html This list is a place for people to trade for angelfood. I only have ten people so far, so I am looking for more to sign up. Also, a message to anyone without angelfood, some on this list have said they will trade for blanks if they can. Please understand that this is nopt a guarantee that they can (I personally can't since I just took a group of people) There are currently at least 2 other projects devoted to getting newbies angelfood, so if you can't get any right now, be patient, soon resources will abound.
