Hey Angels, This seems to be a really critical moment for the list. And it makes me very sad. In fact I'm really upset. I have a lot of mixed feelings about the list. I don't post a lot, but I enjoy reading them. There have been times where I have felt left out when I read about all the concerts and get togethers you all got to. But the fact is, I'm 15 and I live in Florida. Jewel doesn't come here barely at all, and I don't have a car. That's life. instead I try to just enjoy reading about your experinces. I can't help that I've never seen Jewel live, but there will be a time for that. I love being and EDA. I feel honored. The fact is, nobody arounf here used to know aout Jewel, and I felt alone. I'm not alone anymore. I finally found people who feel as strongly as I do about Jewel. Sure I'm not exactly best friends with any of you. But that's o.k. Because finding people who feel like I do about Jewel is friendship enough. If it weren't for this list I wouldn't have learned about half the stuff I now know about Jewel. I also would have missed out on getting tapes of unreleased music( even though there are many more I need to get). I would also be missing out on Jewel's letters, magazines, performances, etc.... I love you guys!! If you ever start to feel badly about this list, then just think about how Jewel's face lights up at the thought of her EDA's. While I offered to make certain the picks would be hand delivered by Lenedra, I was not given that opportunity. Jewel still has not recieved the picks as far as I know. I was recently told that some "other" arrangement was being made but have not heard whether it has been or will be successful. I'm of course still willing to make sure Jewel does get her EDA guitar picks, but no-one in charge of that project is asking me to do this. I assume other arrangements have been made. I think it goes without saying that there will always be a Jewel-EDA mailing list on-line. If one operator decides, for whatever reason(s), that they no longer wish to operate a Jewel list, then another one will take their place. There's always new lists popping up -- I just joined the Tara MacLean list recently and, after two years or so as an on-line club, the Sheryl Crow list just went automated in the past few months. Jeff Wasilko, the owner of this particular list is fed up -- some of the reasons have been explained, some remain unexplained. In any event, it's his option how he wants to spend his time and money. He's been kind and generous enough to allow us all to remain in this rented hall, as it were, for a very long time. Whatever happens from here on, a debt of gratitude is owed to Jeff and all those who have maintained this wonderful list. Hopefully whatever problems are affecting this list's current operations can be resolved to allow things to continue without everybody having to drop off and subscribe to a new list. But that'll be up to Jeff to decide how he feels about carrying on as owner of this list. As Jewel fans, though, there's no need for panic. Things will sort themselves out here or somewhere else. If we put our heads together and can learn about how mailing lists operate, how much they cost to maintain (in terms of $ and time) etc. etc. we'll be in a position to stay together whatever Jeff decides about the future of this list. No matter what happens though, there'll be a list somewhere on the net that will be open to Jewel discussions by EDAs. It may be that this list has outgrown the interests of Jeff or others, or it's just time for him to be free of what must be a burdensome task. Life goes on for all and we do what's best to make things work. I know I'll be seeing you all discussing Jewel well into the future. Hi all: Does anyone know how much it costs to own a mail list? Maybe the people who have started up Tara MacLean and other lists can join in and share their experiences. Should it happen that Jeff can no longer carry on with this list, we could all chip in and run our own. (Depending on what it does cost, it may not even require group financial assistance.) Collectively, thousands of dollars were raised for the James Paul Kalanick Trust. I'm sure it wouldn't cost each of us more than a few dollars a month to pay for a list. Maybe a $10 annual fee would be more than enough to run a Jewel-list -- and as a true collective we could carry on with discussions as we choose, and not get endlessly hung up on rules. We could look at it as paying dues to join a club. I'd be willing to pay a few dollars a year if I felt the list was a positive, democratic, forum. With volunteers, as ever, to maintain the list, maybe this could help everyone out of what seems to be an uncomfortable situation at present. I just checked with my Internet Service Provider -- they won't be offering mail list services for another month or two. But there are a lot of ISPs that already offer such services. Hopefully it won't be necessary, but should it happen that a new list becomes a necessity -- to ease the pressures on Jeff -- and to allow free discussions to be carried out, then it will be something to celebrate not to mourn. Evolution is an ongoing process. We just need to stay together and communicate and whatever will be, will be good. So, EDAs, let's not despair. Let's plan for the future, whatever it holds. I got an e-mail back from a Raymond Wong (he was helping out Lisa). I don't think that this is another fraud or anything, but it has been a month since I sent out my tapes and I can't get in touch with him. When I try to send mail to his address it is returned with a message that it is undeliverable. Please help if you can. I recieved this, I I know all you guys can make a simple wish come true!* Hello to ALL! I am writing this letter to you to ask for some help for a very special little boy. This will only take a few minutes of your time, but your help will last forever. After reading this, PLEASE EMAIL it, send it,photocopy it, or pass it out to anyone and everyone who will help us make this little boy's dream come true. Have you ever heard of a wonderful organization called, "Make A Wish?" This is a charity organization that does everything in it's power to grant a single wish to a child who is terminally ill. I have worked with this foundation before and they really and truly make wishes come true for children with the help of kind hearted people like you! I work at Univ. of Miami/ Jackson's Children's Hospital as a pediatric nurse in a level 3-4 NICU. I see children come into this world every day and children who leave it too quickly as well. If you could do one thing to help someone who is dying, would you do it???? I know I would do everything possible in my power! I work with people and families who do this everyday. Well, now is your chance to make a difference in a little boy's life. Please allow me to tell you a short but very true story. This letter is being sent to you requesting you help and only a few minutes of your valuable time. There is a little boy who's name is Craig Shirgold. He lives in Keene, New Hampshire. What makes this little boy so special is his dreams. Craig is only 7 years old. He was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. This means that medically no treatment can be done to save his life. He will die, and unfortunately, very soon I am afraid. This is where the Childen's Wish Foundation steps in to this project. This organization asked Craig, if he had one last wish in the whole wide world, what would it be. Craig replied, " If he had one wish, it would be to receive 1 MILLION GET WELL CARDS so he can make "THE GUINESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS" and leave his mark in this world. Craig does not have many days left. We would like to grant him his wish but it is going to take a lot of help from everyone! The deadline is AUGUST 15, 1997. THIS DOES NOT LEAVE US MUCH TIME TO WORK WITH . SO PLEASE, TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO HELP GRANT CRAIG HIS LAST WISH!!!!!!!!!! Please make a homemade card, buy a card, send a postcard, and send it out right away. The address is listed below. Also, we could really use some extra help. When you receive this, please Email, telephone,or write to everyone you know and spread the word. One million people need to care..... One million cards need to arrive at his home before August 15th. Even if you make photocopies and hang them at the supermarket, place an advertisement in a local newspaper, or church bulletin, share it with co-workers, family, friends, pass it out to local stores and request everyone to spread the word. WE CAN GRANT CRAIG HIS LAST WISH!!!! Here is the address: CRAIG SHIRGOLD C/O CHILDREN'S WISH FOUNDATION 32 PERIMETER CENTER EAST ATLANTA, GEORGIA 30345 Consider this your good deed for the day! If everyone does at least one good deed a day, this world would be a better place to live. If everyone sends one GET WELL CARD to CRAIG, we can help him make his dream a reality!!! THANK-YOU FOR TAKING A FEW MINUTES TO HELP !!! YOUR EFFORT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!!! ~ Dianne Bennett RNBSN Jackson Children's Hospital Miami, Florida ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #611 ***************************
