It was an incredible show! It is the tour to make this summer! (BTW- For future reference; don't ever get reserved seating at the Gorge...unless one prefers to put a 'cheek' on each neighbor's lap) Anyway, while at the show, I happen to encounter a young lady on the way out who(m?) was passing out free cassettes with a facial cleansing product. (Biore, I think it was...interesting product) And I'm surprised not to see the cassette mentioned, as of yet, on this list. So now I'm wondering if I was one of a limited number to get one of these. Doubt it, but I'm sure I'll find out now. The cassette is a varied collection some of the female artists (listed below), who have either played, or will play, second stage at the Lilith shows. There is some great music on it and these artists deservedly warrant attention. A few, I know, several of you are already into! Here's what I'm thinking- If there is some interest in starting a tape-tree with this cassette, I would be more than happy to forward the 'master' to one who could arrange and has the dubbing equipment to create the next ...branches? I would be very willing to handle the tree but, unfortunatly, I'm not experienced with the trees nor do I have the dubbing equipment. (...hmm,...Mike?) The tape includes: ALISHA'S ATTIC- Am I Feel CINNAMON- Me As Helen of Troy SAVE FERRIS- The World Is New KIM FOX- Wanna Be A Witch PATTY GRIFFIN- Let Him Fly K'S CHOICE- Not An Addict CHANTAL KREVIAZUK- God Made Me KAMI LYLE- Polka Dots TARA MACLEAN- Evidence HOLLY MCNARLAND- Elmo SEPTEMBER 67- What's Wrong With Alice SISTER 7- This The Trip UGLY BEAUTY- The Only Heroine WILD STRAWBERRIES- Heroine NOELLA HUTTON- Attitude So what do you's think? I'm almost certain we'd have to get permission from at least the folks who put the tape out. I had the most awesome weekend and it all started on Thursday, when Tom Miles came a picked me up to go to the Lilith Fair in Cleveland. He got lost in my little town and called me from his cell phone so I could talk him to my house... We had lunch and Tom met my dog Delilah...(she misses you Tom!) Anyway, we start on our journey, run into Traffic and construction on the way there.. We are running late...but not too late. We get there and eventually meet up with Tim, Mia and Liz... Very cool, it was my first time seeing Tara and meeting new EDA's... Tara was awesome but I don't really need to say that because you guys already know that. She signed my Cd booklet ...she wrote something like... "You guys are everywhere, well...I suppose angels are!" It was so sweet... Well, we watched the concert and played musical chairs for a while.. I had fun, it was a beautiful day and I met lost of People.. Mia is so cool and Tim, your a sweetheart..and Liz, what can I say... You are one bundle of energy..thanks for being so great! Well, Tom feel asleep a couple of times during the preformance...he was tired from his long trip and long night at work...so after the show we went to Mia's house and crashed there...We met Mia's mom and pregnant cat...Mia you are so cool..Thanks for letting us stay with you.. Well, Tom and I left in the morning when Mia went to work. I guess it was around 8:30 or so.. we started toward Lancaster... My plans for Bearsville had fallen through so I was panicing sort of.. hoping things would work out... and they did... Well, we get to Steph's front doorstep eventually and I finally meet the Great Poet chick! We wait for our ride and sweetheart, Jon picked us up and we went shopping.. I got this blue beach ball thing that we didn't even get out, but we were fully entertained by Dennis Harris so, plastic toys were not nessecarry... Well, Steph told the whole story about getting there and the DEAD and the drunk woman... So we got there.. I tried to remember everybody's name and did an okay job.. It took me a couple of seconds though... Abel is so quiet...and he smells so good, doesn't he Rach? Well, he does so, when you meet him ask him what cologne he's wearing.. hehe Oh, and he might have some insense to share with you too! Well, we hung out for a while, talking... informally met everyone... Crunch, Ali, Tegan, Tammy, Tob, the girls.... hm...JenBug, Rachel, Tom O., Steve, Abel, Pud, who else, there were some of Pud's friends there too... Jason, the firewood guy, hm... I know I am forgetting people....but i will remember soon, promise.. Well, we decide to crash for the night and Crunch kindly offers his tent to crash in.. Very cool... So, steph and Jon and I and Ali and crunch sleep in the tent... We try to sleep I should say... Between our next door camping neighbors and blasting Metallica...and the arrival of the almighty Dennis Harris( you are so awesome) sleep was a rare commodity...but that was okay... anyway, you know the events of the morning...because of the great story tellers that have already elaborated on this... and part two will continue with my shopping adventures in Woodstock But, I have to go to work now, so I will enlighten you later on tonight..... Both a 38 year old woman and a 40 year old man typically have experienced life and a lot of what goes with it. Both are typically more responsible for themselves and independent of their parents or others for complete support (I'm not saying completely independent.. we always need eachother). Many even actually have come to the realization of who they are (I, for one..have not..but I won't be even in my 30's fer a while, eeheh). If you think someone under the age of 18 who is legally required to be supported by their parents has experienced enough to know what they want to be and who they want to be for the rest of their life, then I'd start to question your logic. Starting a family necessitates this as it brings about a commitment for 18+ years of raising a child (or children). Not that I'm experienced in this area on either side.. but I would easily say that these are NOT two similar situations. I will be 20 in September. I have always been mature for my age . And I choose to associate myself with people of like mindedness (grammar?). many times, however, I find people younger than me who hold great wisdom and intellect. I try not to look at one's physical age, but their maturity. On the flip side, I still feel like a child. I'm more carefree than I was at 16. In a strange way, as I've grown older, I've grown younger. As such, I don't see any problem in a 20 year old dating a 16 year old, but the state of tennessee says otherwise. I've heard the argument that a 16 year old girl doesn't know what she wants in a relationship. That they're confused by emotion. That they can easily be taken advantage of. The fact is, the same can be said of anyone, any gender, any age. People have a tendancy to think "God I was so immature back then. But I can handle a relationship now." Yet the US has a 50% divorce rate. I don't think anyone is prepared for the slings and arrows that come with a relationship. I feel that the stat. rape law is there as a crutch for well-meaning parents who don't want to see their kids hurt. The problem with that is, it treats people just a couple of years short of adulthood as children who can't make a decision for themselves regarding their own body. That s.r. law states that people of a certain age "Are incapable of consenting to sexual intercourse". The fact that the state feels it knows when a person is mature enough to make a decision regarding their own body is infuriating to me. I am no more mature for sex now than I was five years ago. I doubt in ten years I will be any more equiped for the emotional pain and confusion. Even so, I have the right to say what I do with my own body, and I think that others should have the same right. I mean, as compared to about a billion other videos out there that was NOT even close to using sexuality... With Jewel, she just so happens to be an aesthetically pleasing person to look at , and she's also a very emotional person who puts heart into her performances which is what makes her "sexy"... I don't know how anyone could compare her to Madonna for pete's sake... Hell, you want to look at a blatant use of sexuality, look at Fiona Apple's Criminal video... ... it's almost pathetic how bad that video is... Besides, there is nothing wrong with using your sexuality or your beauty at all... Even though she's more torch-loungey and less folky than Jewel, her music evokes a similar intoxicating mood. Her CD included an especially compelling cover of Tom Waits Grapefruit Moon, much less rough than his original. Check her out if you get the chance. I think someone on this list mentioned that she was also considering doing a living room tour and I hope she does. Her intimate sound would be devastating in that kind of an intimate setting. thanks larry, *paul ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Jul 1997 17:00:22 -0400 (EDT) From: VCavallo@aol.com Subject: Bearsville - Part B I fell alot. Therefore, if you sent me any mail do not be upset if you do not get a reply from me for several weeks. I have sent out all the tapes in whick I have received a check for. For those of you who "confirmed" but did not send your check yet please be patient because I will not have any access to my mail, both electronic and snail, for several weeks. Angelfood--- On another note...I have been noticing a huge increase in newbies posting letters to the list asking for angelfood. I used to reply to all of those who did and offerred them my service but there seems to be way too many of you for me to continue doing that. I actually advise you to go to the "Adopt A Newbie" web page where you can fill out a form requesting some angelfood. I know many EDAs are feeling burnt out and when they get around 6 posts a day from the list requesting angelfood they begin to get fusturated and just ignore them all. When I come back I will continue dubbing "Jewel Rocks the Paradise" for any EDA who wants it. Thanks to Dennis Harris I seem to have an endless supply of J-cards for JRTP! :) And I would also like to thank Farr for providing me with some emergency J-cards when we met at OceanFest'97 down in San Diego. So for all those newbies who do not have any angelfood just email me back with the subject heading "INSTRUCTIONS" and I will send you all the details when I get back from my little trip. Thank you all for being so kind and I'll see you in a couple of weeks. Attention, EDAs! For my Rock'n'Roll class research paper, I'm going to write about our Jewel. I want to have some quotes and ideas from other fans of hers, so where better to go than this list? I want to answer the question, what is it about Jewel? That is, why is she becoming so popular? For the most part, it seems that the bands and artists who become popular have to meet certain criteria, such as being the 'baddest' out there or being real trendy. But Jewel doesn't meet any of the usual criteria, yet she's becoming overwhelmingly popular. So please, respond to me personally, and tell me the two following things: What drew you to Jewel in the first place Why you like Jewel and maybe your theory about why she's become so popular. Thank you in advance! I hope I get a lot of responses. Godbless! (as a side note, tomorrow's my birthday! I'll be 21!!) Bless and Be Blessed; spread the Love! Hello fellow Angels! As most of you know, Jewel will be re-joining the Lillith Fair summer tour in a few days, so she will be among the top artists featured at the August 1st performance in Atlanta,Gorgia. I am making the great EDA Pilgrimage to see Jewel perform live for the first time. If there are any other EDAs planning to be in attendance on the August 1st date in Atlanta, Georia, please e-mail me. We all should get together or meet at a certain place to watch Jewel perform. I couldn't get my EDA shirt because it wouldn't arrive in time for the concert, but I'll try to smother my self in Blue Ribbons. Okay, thanks. I know that when I saw the YWMFM video I almost fell over in pure excitement. As for the new vid , I think it's weird and Jewel doesn't look half as cute as she used to with the more "lay-off the make-up" appearance. I like the PoY version better of FG , I don't know...I think the Batman version sounds a little too pushed. I know the video is artistic and is trying to be symbolic , but it actually makes me feel unnerved. I like Jewel riding the horse , and I think the landscape and ambiance is good. that's it ... if this has already been discussed , I'm sorry for bringing it up again.
