There is a song on there called, "'39" that I really love so much. But some other fav songs of mine by them are "Fat Bottomed Girls", "I Want To Break Free", "I'm In Love With My Car", "Don't Stop Me Now" to name a few. Freddie Mercury is absolutely one of the best vocalists I've heard in my life. Such strong lungs and had great showmanship too. And personally, I always thought he was very sexy. But, that's just my opinion. I think they are extremely underrated and more people should give them a chance and not just listen to "Bohemian Rhapsody" or "We Will Rock You" and judge them from there. Those are good songs, however, people (alot of times) act like those are the only 2 songs they've ever done. Try them out. Anyways, guess I've yakked enough. C-ya!!! Cindy Lee Berryhill and Elizabeth Hummel (featured on the Future Folklore tapes) will perform on Salt Spring Island for a Northwest EDA-fest on Friday, August 29 -- that's to kick off the Labor Day Holiday weekend. Salt Spring Island is located in Canada's Gulf Islands, just north of the U.S. San Juan Islands (off the coast of Seattle, Washington), midway between the two British Columbia cities of Vancouver, on the mainland, and Victoria on Vancouver Island. When the Living Room Tour hits the Pacific Northwest, it'll be Indian Summer here on the island -- when the temperatures are mildest, the sunsets most colourful, the evenings long and the night sky filled with constellations that circle round the Jewel of the North star. There are accomodations neraby to suit all tastes and budgets, but since it's a holiday weekend the sooner people decide and let me know their plans, the better chance we have of making sure there's room for everybody. Right now there's plenty of camping, cabins, lodges, a motel, two inns... -- up the road (past the pigs and sheep) there's an amazing hostel that's situated on ten acres of old growth forest with a creek running through the heart of it. The site has three Indian tipis (tepees) that sleep four and a Winnie the Pooh-style tree house to stay in that sleeps two. There's even Eeyore, Piglet, Owl and a honey pot at the bottom of the tree. (The tree-house may end up being the artists' quarters.) You can check out the tree-house and tipis at http://www.beacom.com//ssihostel/hostel.htm The main page of this site is at http://www.beacom.com/ssihostel I've already talked with the owners and, for those that are interested, we'd get members rates of CDN $14 per person per night in the tipis and CDN $20 per person per night in the tree house. (That's about US $10 a night in the tipis and US $15 a night to stay up the tree.) Start thinking about attending on August 29 The Living Room Tour date during Indian Summerstock and please let me know ASAP who wants to come so we can organize everything (rides, carpools, boat schedules, accomodation, contributions/expenses etc. for the artists etc. etc.) Since Salt Spring was home to Tara Maclean when she was discovered singing on a ferry boat, I've invited Tara's fans to join EDAs for this special gathering. We may be few and far between in the Pacific Northwest but here's a rare opportunity to get together in a beautiful, natural, surrounding and enjoy the music of Cindy Lee Berryhill and Elizabeth Hummel. RSVP to howenow@imagen.net as soon as you can! Thanks. Directions & lodging/camping info will be organized and forwarded to all to make life easier. Look forward to seeing you all here! Since they had an article on the Lilith Fair in the same issue, why not make a cover with several performers on it? What makes her more deserving then the rest, her backround might be more interesting, and she is arguably more talented, but the real reason why Jewel was on the cover, was to turn heads and sell copies. In most people's minds she is the prettiest of performers, so she got the cover. Being on the cover might turn out to be the zenith of Jewel's popularity, but I am not so sure it was such a good idea for Jewel to acheive it in that manner. She is one of the humblest people on the planet, but this cover sorta takes away a bit of that modesty (which isn't necesarriy bad, she has every reason to be high on herself). The article clearly shows her unpretentiousness, but being on the cover of TIME (by herself) sort of undermines that. I can guarantee you that every person on the cover of a big magazine, whether it be Sports Illustrated, TIME, etc. had a giant ego at the time (assuming they were on it for a good reason, (not Timothy McVeigh or Mike Tyson, for example). I guess I am just a bit suprised that she decided to do it by herself. I would think all the other magazines she has been in recently would be enough. For anyone who might know this, when was the last time a solo musician appeared on the cover of Time? Probably a while, which makes this accomplishment very impressive, but not necesarrily right for Jewel. You may say I have no right to question Jewel's decision to appear on the cover, but questioning our leaders (political and otherwise, right now, Jewel is definitely a leader in the music buisness.) is a cornerstone of democracy and free speech, and hopefully causes others to think about something they might not usually think about. **Sorry if this post isn't written too well, I am currently taking powerful pain medicine because I had 4 teeth extracted today, and the medication slightly fogs up my mind** ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jul 1997 16:21:52 -0400 From: David McCluskey <6djm@qlink.queensu.ca> Subject: Re: Tape Bag, Mark's Message That message about 'No Support' was replying to an older post. The Tape Bag has had great support and there are now over 50 EDAs signed up. I'm hoping to have well over 100 people involved. I realize a few people can't check the webpage (http://qlink.queensu.ca/~6djm/tapebag/) for various reasons. Anyone who wants to sign up for The Tape Bag project to trade mix tapes can do so by emailing ME, Dave McCluskey, at 6djm@qlink.queensu.ca and leaving their name and email address. Thank you, Mark, for offering to collect email postings and if you got any could you please forward to me? I'll post a message to the list when the pairings are made (probably when everyone's back from Bearsville). - -Dave McCluskey > >Date: Mon, 14 Jul 1997 16:07:47 -0400 (EDT) >From: "Mark Anthony Miazga" >Subject: Tape Bag > >After reading my last digest, I see there is little support for the tape bag >idea? I accidentally delete 5 incoming messages without reading them. I have (finally) received the second batch of EDA shirts and have spent the last two days catching up on the mailing of shirts. If you sent you money before last week. your shirt should be arriving soon (foreign orders allow another week or so). Anyhow, there are 58 shirts remaining here is the size breakdown XXXLarge - 1 XXLarge - 5 XLarge - 20 Large - 24 Medium - 8 I hope these will last me into the fall so if you are interested please order soon. (If there is demand I will order more come the fall). Here is the original post. The EDA Shirt is here!!! Finally, The T-Shirt Guy (tm) has returned with a new, better than ever "Official" EDA T-Shirt. Last year, the Everyday Angels wanted to make a shirt so we could easily spot each other at concerts. Designs were submitted, idea were exchanged. I became The T-Shirt Guy (tm) and was in charge of the project. Then the EDA world was turned upside-down with the announcement of JewelStock. The JS shirt satisfied the need and the EDA shirt was put aside. People never forgot, however, and have been asking me when was I going to finish the EDA shirt. Well, now I have my act together and a new design (which has Jewel and Lenedra's blessing) and I am ready to make the shirt available to the list. The shirt can be viewed and ordered over the web at http://www.cybercom.net/~pjk/EDA (I should have a couple alternative sites up soon if in case there are any more problems with my server) or if you do not have web access simply email at this address for all the information on the shirt (design, ordering, etc.). If you would also like a jpeg of the design just ask. If you have any questions feel free to email me. Hey all, Mix 99.9, a radio station here in Toronto, has a daily feature called "Mix It Or Nix It" in which two new songs compete for votes. The song that gets the most listener votes is declared the day's champion and goes on to compete against another new song the next day. Anyways, just to let you all know, Foolish Games is a two day champion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! However, I'm afraid that Jewel's reign at the top might have ended today, as FG went up against the latest single from The Tragically Hip, one of Canada's best and most popular groups. While I was unable to hear the results of today's competition, I will post tomorrow as to whether or not Jewel went on as three day champ. He looked up at the blazing sun and said, "Man, it=92s hot." He was sweating bullets...well, not actu= ally real bullets, but sweat drops that were big enough to resemble bullets.=20 John then went back under the hood of his car and went back to work. The= n out of nowhere came a figure. She was gorgeous and had big beautiful blu= e eyes, as if she was wearing blue contacts and had eyes that weren=92t sm= all. Her lips were as red as the blood that comes out of your nose when you have a nosebleed. She said gracefully, "Excuse me, do ya think you could help me get muh keys out of muh car? I locked them in by accident." Joh= n wiped the sweat off his forehead with his hand and then wiped his hand on his jeans to wipe off the sweat that had gotten on his hand by wiping his forehead with it. He said, "Well, I=92m pretty busy out here, but for a perdy young lady like you, I think I could weave it into muh schedule."=20 And after saying that, John=92s face developed a handsome smile. The you= ng attractive woman replied by giving her own smile. Their eyes met and the= y stared at each other. The time they stared at each other seemed like an eternity, like waiting in line at the DMV. Except on this day, there was no driving test to pass. =20 They headed over to where her car was. John looked through the window o= f the car and sure enough, her keys were in there. He said, "Sure enough, your keys are in there." As he stood there peering down into the car=92s interior, she couldn=92t help but have a strange feeling go through her a= nd she tingled with excitement. John caught her tingling and gave her a gri= n that said, "What was that?" She didn=92t answer that question, since it = was only asked in John=92s head. She couldn=92t help but stare at his muscul= ar physique. The way the sun shined down on his brown hair. The way his biceps looked as he tried to jam the shirt hanger down into the door whic= h he brough from the house to try and unhook the lock so she could get back in. She bit her lip...she bit it harder, almost as hard as Mike Tyson ha= d bitten Holyfield=92s ear off. "Ah, there, I got it. The door=92s unlock= ed and you can get on your way mam," said John. She felt a slight feeling of disappointment as their little meeting was about to end. The kind of disappointment similar to when Chicken McNuggets aren=92t on sale at McDonalds anymore. She said, "Why, thank you stranger. I don=92t know w= hat I=92d be doin=92 if I hadn=92t found you. I don=92t believe we were ever= formally introduced." "Muh name is John. What=92s yours?" She replied, "Muh nam= e is Corey. Nice to meetcha." As she got into her car slowly, their eyes connected once again but this time the feeling was much stronger. They said their goodbyes and she headed off. But the passion between these tw= o lovebirds still remained. =20 Later that night, John was relaxing outside on his front porch with his dog Hank, and continued whistling Barry Manilow classics. But then, out = of nowhere, (well, actually from up the street), came a vehicle. It seemed familiar looking, but he wasn=92t sure because the darkness of night shad= owed it. He stepped off of the porch and headed down to the side of the road = to get a closer look. The car=92s headlights gleamed into his eyes and he w= as frozen like a deer on a road. And much like the deer, he got hit by the car. John fell to the ground. He wasn=92t hit badly, so he was able to = at least sit up and speak. The first words that came out of his mouth were, "Ouch, that hurt." And out of the car came the exact same figure which h= e had seen earlier that day. It was Corey. She ran over to where John lay and said, "Damn, I need to start wearing muh glasses at night." She checked to see if he was okay, and when she was sure he would live, the both stood up and their eyes caught each other once again. A flame of passion ignited between them, much like a flame ignites when you heat aluminum in the microwave. He took her in his arms, looked her in the eyes, and kissed her like no man had ever kissed her before....mainly because there was no tongue involved. He led her into the house. Their footsteps could be heard going up the stairs. Hank the dog stood their wondering what was going on. He then sniffed around, found a tree, and d= id his business. At the same moment, the lights upstairs went out, and an unbelievable night of passion and romance was underway. =20 coming soon.....Chapter 2 of "THE SUMMER" ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #561 ***************************
