Not really. It is much easier for Jewel to do nothing about her teeth and let people think she is so cool that she doesn't care how her teeth look because she isn't about physical beauty. Some of you don't even care that her crooked teeth may be effecting her health in the long term. When she gets up on stage and looks like Moms Mabely with nothing but gums, I wonder how many of you will still think she is beautiful despite her teeth. Most of you will be on to other artist by then and it won't matter. You will have gotten what you want from Jewel and moved on. Just like all the boxing fans that love the sport but hate to look at all those brain damaged boxers that never got out of the local gyms. Look at how many people got a body piercing or tattoo after seeing it on their favorite artist. So many people have started smoking or experiment with drugs after their favorite artist has led the way. How many young people are using Jewel as an example when their parents beg them to consider getting braces. She could break new ground and be the only major celebrity that has the courage to have braces. I would say that Jewel is showing that she is more concerned with looks than health if she doesn't do something about her teeth. That would be the wrong message to send to the millions of people that get to see her on TV and printed media. Igor I may stand alone but it will take more than a strong wind to move me. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 07 Jul 1997 16:15:02 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: EDA picks - Canadians & pick sellers please read Oooops, I goofed :\ As many of ya wrote to the list and I already, you can't mail a letter FROM the USA to Canada with Canadian postage on it. It seems MacExpo falls on the three days immediately preceeding the Massachusetts area CindyLee Berryhill and Elizabeth Hummell "Living Room Concerts"! So, any of you MacEDAs who want to check out the Macintosh world can have your cake, "8" it AND see what all the fuss concerning CindyLee and Elizabeth is about! Better yet, talk your employer into paying to send you to the Mac show Thursday and Friday and then hang around for two GREAT concerts that are destined to write another chapter (or two) in EDA history! Anyway, exhibit passes are $40 at the door (ouch!), but if you call in and pre-register, they go down to $25 each. The catch is that you have to do it by Monday, the 7th of July! The number is 1-800-645-EXPO or register online at www.mha.com/macworldexpo. Better yet, hound your local Mac dealer for FREE passes (good luck). Email me if you think you might be interested in this EDA "field trip". (Maybe we'll go on the microbrewery tour afterwards. Or the bakery. Or throw tea in the Boston Harbor. Whatever, it'll be fun. You all are so great. =) I think that you two are right, though, about the internet relationships. Atleast, with this guy anyway. I think it could work in some instances, but not this. The trust issue that I mentioned, here's what's been going on: Before I met him, one of my internet friends and I were making up stories about how we met, and took trips together, and all kinds of stuff. Well, once things got serious between my guy and me, I stopped the stories, and I eventually told him that it was all a joke. So, I guess he doesn't trust me. Now, though, one of his friends and I have been talking and stuff, and we meet in chatrooms. Well, last night, his friend came in there while I was talking to him. I didn't say much to him, but enough, I guess. Then, he left, and my guy asked me if I'd been meeting his friend. I never answered directly, I just asked him why he thought that. He's always doing that, so I didn't think it was a big deal. I just found out, that it was HIM, posing as his friend, all along, and he'd completely lied to me. And, gotten all mad at me for talking to his friend. I'm so mad right now...I can't say anything to him, because his friend asked me not to. What do I do? This is NOT the first time he's lied to me. On top of that, I've been feeling all guilty about the whole thing, until now, of course. I don't think that I can meet him. I just can't. He's going to be so mad about it, and I don't even know what to say to him. I just don't know what to do. He says he doesn't trust me because I lied to him, when he turns around and does the same thing to me... I can't tell my parents right now, because they'll just say "I told you so." Do I tell him not to come? He spent the money, but is it worth it? And, do I end the friendship I have with his friend? This sci-fi film stars Jodie Foster and Matthew Macaughnahey (probably not spelled right) and centers around a message received by Foster from another planet. It is discovered that the message contains the plans to build a gigantic transport machine so that the two planets can contact (hence the title) each other. The project is undertaken internationally as it's 1/3 of a trillion dollar price tag is a little too hefty for any one nation. Through some twists of fate Foster's character is chosen to be the one to "ride" the machine first to make contact. Unlike many other alien contact movies, this one centers around us humans and how society deals with the revelation that we are not alone in the universe. We see people attack science because they think it's "destroying God," and terrorist groups try to stop the contact from taking place. I think that this movie really takes a serious look at what it would really be like if we learned we had intergallactic neighbors. Not only is the plot firm (it keeps you captivated throughout the two-and-a-half hour running time), but the acting in this film is superb. Contact is definitely worth your summer money after a string of disappointing blockbusters. Hollywood is finally understanding that special effects, though they aid in the realism of a film, can't support it completely. The movie makes you think, which is what all films are supposed to do to some extent. Hi, I know this is not necessarily the group to post a movie recomendation, but I felt compelled to list it for anyone who might want to see it. The movie is Courage Under Fire and is worth a rental. It is out on video and I know this may be a little late, but I just got around to watching it on the good ol' laserdisk and it was great. The movie is really moving, well acted and intelligently written. It also sounds very good, if that is your thing. Again give it a rent and enjoy. She could break new ground and be the > only major celebrity that has the courage to have braces. She wouldn't be the only one. I know of a few celebrities that have braces. I can only think of one off the top of my head though... that guy from Boys II Men. I don't know his name or anything, but one of them has braces. Also, I looked at the pictures of Jewel w/ her rather crooked teeth and noticed something. She doesn't have any serious alignment problems that I can see. I mean, she doesn't have and overbite or an underbite. Her teeth are just crooked. That's all. As long as she brushes and flosses, I'm sure she'll be fine! If she doesn't, then we have a right to be concerned because tooth decay or gum disease will most likely occur since her teeth are so smashed in together. But, like I said in another post, there are people like my dad who have teeth that are even more crooked than her. My dad is 49. He has EXCELLENT dental health. Of course, he does have a few fillings from when he was a little kid, but he brushes and flosses his teeth and doesn't have any higher risk of tooth decay than a person who had braces does. Anyway, Igor stop worrying!! :) Jewel's gonna be fine!! *hugs* Emily ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Jul 1997 19:52:04 -0400 (EDT) From: ELENI15@aol.com Subject: RAFFLE CONTEST?
