Hi y'all, I won't get into any reasons why this is so late. The EDA Guitar Picks are here & we are ready to sell them. :) Also, for those that are new to the list and have no clue as to what an EDA Guitar Pick is, there will be an explanation of the story and what they look like at the end of this email. Quick explanation for the REALLY, REALLY new. EDA stands for EveryDay Angels....EDAs are members of this mailing list....Jewel herself dubbed us as EveryDay Angels :) EDA GUITAR PICK WEB SITE: For those that like web sites, just go here for the exact same info that is in this here email: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/edapicks.htm At that site you can also view a picture of about what the picks look like. (The final product differs slightly from what the picture shows) Please take your time and read the following carefully. It's all clear (I hope) but there is alot here to read. Print it out if necessary. (Good idea anyway in case you accidently delete the email :) HOW MANY TO SELL, HOW MANY CAN YOU GET: On to business. We have 600 of these picks to sell (120 others we are giving to Jewel, see story below), and we have six sellers. There is a *limit* of SIX picks per person. If you are thinking that six is not enough....that you play a guitar and will go through six in no time flat, then you missed the point of the project. :) No biggie :) The intent of these picks are that they are a "Jewel/EDA fan" item. Yeah some EDAs will use them as a guitar pick (novel idea :) but I'm sure others will want to have them as souvenirs/collectors items, as Jewel will be using these same picks in the coming months (we ordered them to her specifications, without her knowing about them). Thus, we want to give as many EDAs a chance to get some of these as we can. At a limit of six picks, that guarantees a minimum of 100 EDAs can get picks, and with our pricing scheme as many as 300 could get them. If we sell out and there is still a strong demand, we can & *will* order more to sell. THE PRICING PLAN: OK, here's the plan. We have 600 pics to sell, and they cost very close enough to $300 total to call it $300. So the price ranges will be: 1) two picks for one US dollar -or- 2) four picks for two US dollars -or- 3) six picks for three US dollars CASH ONLY! No checks, no money orders, just USA dollar bills. PLEASE fear not about sending the cash to these six sellers, they are EDAs who for the most part have either been involved in more than a few list projects, or have worked their tail off being tried & true Jewel fans in their own right. I know that two EDAs posted earlier today about getting ripped-off by some guy selling Jewel posters, but he was likely a ripoff artist from the get-go. This EDA pick project has been in the works for months, and as I said, each of the EDA pick sellers listed below have been involved with list projects and such for ages. Fear not, this is for real :) ORDERING PLAN: To order, decide if you want two, four or six picks. You will then Email a seller of your choice at one of the email addresses listed below. They will then Email you back to confirm your order and they will send you their postal mailing address. You will then send them an envelope with the required one to three US dollars for your purchase AND include in the envelope you send them a SELF ADDRESSED *STAMPED* ENVELOPE!! IMPORTANT, include this envelope!! For USA folk, this will be a measly 32 more cents. (If you don't include this self addressed stamped envelope, the seller will be forced to email you back to send them one) FOREIGN ORDERS: For Canada folk, same process, send USA dollars and the self addressed Canadian-stamped envelope. For foreign-overseas orders, I haven't a clue as to the postage cost, but you should know the cost of sending a letter from the USA and back, as that's what it will be...the weight of the picks is less or equal to a normal letter. So if you live overseas and want picks, it's up to you figure out the cost of mailing them back to you, get USA dollars to mail to your sellers and to supply them with the postage & an envelope to send you your picks. *WHO* TO ORDER FROM: Send an Email to *one* of the six people below, telling them if you want 2, 4 or 6 picks. You pick which one to write to! IMPORTANT!! PLEASE make the *subject* of the Email: EDA picks That way, your Email will stand out to them :) If they are sold out, they will tell you to try another seller. Once a seller is sold out, they will post to the list and me saying so. (I would update the web site accordingly) Tell them how many picks you want in this first email, that way the sellers can keep a running inventory on their picks. They will write you back with their postal mailing address, you then send them: a) the cash required (USA dollar bills ONLY) b) the self-addressed *stamped* envelope. c) a note that has your Email address on it, in case the seller has to email you back It's that easy :) The sellers are: Mandy Dilts mandyd@execnet.net Dennis Harris harrisbros@aol.com Larry Greenfield graywolfwla@earthlink.net Kris Kane zerog@interaccess.com Jared Jacobus SDAngelLI@aol.com Rachel Martin CornflkGl@aol.com Please note that one of the above (who shall remain nameless) is out of town right now and may not be able to reply to your Email until Friday or so. In other words, don't worry if you don't hear back from your seller by Firday or Saturday. If you don't hear from them by next Sunday the 13th, feel free to write me at ducksoup@spectra.net Your best bet is to 'cut and paste' the address for who you choose. To avoid confusing Email addresses (as sometimes it is hard to tell what is what): In Larry's address, it's graywolfla (The 'la' is as in Los Angeles) In Jared's address, it's SDAngelLI (the LI is as in Long Island) In Rachel's address, they are "ells", not "ones" nor "capital I's" TIP: if you ever have doubts as to what the letter/number is in an Email address, print it out. It usually becomes clear when you do....ones & ells look alike on some Email programs, ells and capital I's look alike on AOL. Printing them clears it up :) Please, do not ask one of the sellers for more than six picks, we want as many EDAs as we can to get some, and as I said we can and will order more if the demand dictates so. Please remember to make the *subject* of your Email to your seller: EDA Picks By the way I am NOT selling these picks, so don't order from me. Howver I can answer ANY questions, as can Mandy. KUDOS & THANX: I want to applaud Mandy Dilts (of the Mandy triplets!!) for really hands-on coordinating the whole thing. (This is NOT the "Starry Night/OceanFest/gonna marry Farr" Mandy) Mandy took in the upfront cash from the 'investors' and ordered the picks, dealt with the problems that developed etc. Applause, applause!! The following (all sellers too) also invested 50$ upfront to fund this project: Kris Kane, Rachel Martin, Jared Jacobus, Larry Greenfield, myself and Dennis Harris (who also designed the artwork for the picks). Adrian du Plessis also invested some cash when it appeared the project would cost more than we originally thought, but the price returned to about the original cost estimate. Also, thanks to whomever it was that first came up with the EDA Guitar Picks idea. I cannot remember who it was. Will the person of honor please speak up? THE STORY BEHIND THE PICKS: In early to mid-April, talk of what the list could give Jewel for her birthday surfaced, and MANY ideas came up. Two basically came to be. One was the actual star that was named for Jewel. (more on that later) The other was this EDA guitar pick thing. The idea was to make some guitar picks for Jewel, and to sell some to the EDAs. It was hoped to get them to Jewel by her birthday, but due to Murphy's Law, it was not to be. THE BRAND/TYPE OF PICK: The picks made are D'Adario brand, in the medium gauge. They are a pale yellow in color. On one side there is what we call the 'smoo' angel, and on the otherside, it says "We Are EveryDay Angels" and it has an 'illuminated' halo below the print. Both designs are by Dennis Harris. We consulted people in the Jewel camp on pick preferences, and we got these to match one of the styles of picks Jewel uses. We ordered 720 of them, 120 for Jewel as a present from the EDAs, 600 to sell to the EDAs. JEWEL'S OTHER EDA GIFT, THE STAR: In a nutshell, the EDAs also gave Jewel a real star for her birthday. A star in the middle of the 'bucket' of the Little Dipper is now and forever known as "Jewel Kilcher - Jewel of the North" (Well, forever on planet Earth anyway, the Klingons may call it D'Martog for all I know ;) To see more on the star gift, all you need to do is go to the page set up for it on Adam Longfellow's "Pieces Of Jewel" page at: http://home.sprynet.com/sprynet/xenomorph/birthday.htm Your fellow EDA, Mike :) **** The Jewel Mailing List Netiquette & New Member Guide at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup Bearsville97/JewelStock Reunion/EDA Gathering site at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/bv97/bv97.htm EDA Guitar Picks Online at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/edapicks.htm Patty Griffin Tour Dates & more at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/pattyg/patttour.htm Ducksoup@spectra.net DuckofPrey@aol.com **** ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Jul 1997 20:46:44 -0700 From: BenFrancis@webtv.net (Ben Simpelo) Subject: Lilith Fair concert review MSNBC has made a concert review of the Lilith Fair performance yesterday at George, WA. The address: >http://www.msnbc.com/news/84918.asp=20 I'm not sure how the formatting of this will be, as I cut and pasted it=20 from the MSNBC Website above and mended it a bit, but here goes: Arguably the evening's biggest attraction, Jewel took the stage in a show-stopping red evening gown and heals. Her generous, 13-song set demonstrated how far she has evolved since her best-selling debut album "Pieces of You". Once confined to a few simple chords and adolescent lyrics, she has evolved into a confident and intriguing performer. The showcase of her set, her hit "Foolish Games" is a song that lives or dies depending on the young singer's vocal phrasing =97 her voice is now a powerful and dramatic instrument, capable of holding notes past their breaking point. Not afraid to take risks, including performing a sentimental tribute to a friend who committed suicide, Jewel also strapped on an electric guitar and ripped out a cover of 'Dancing Barefoot' that has become a highlight of her set. __________________________________________________________ Mike :) **** The Jewel Mailing List Netiquette & New Member Guide at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup=20 Bearsville97/JewelStock Reunion/EDA Gathering site at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/bv97/bv97.htm EDA Guitar Picks Online at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/edapicks.htm Patty Griffin Tour Dates & more at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/pattyg/patttour.htm Ducksoup@spectra.net DuckofPrey@aol.com **** ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Jul 1997 23:01:14 -0700 From: naveenrao@juno.com (Naveen Rao) Subject: NJC: Tabs Does anyone know the chords/tablature for "If This Is What Love Is"? On the Rick Dees weekly top 40 radio show I was listening to in Indiana this weekend, after YWMFM was played he began talking about how Jewel's brother set up the stereo in her house, or something to that effect... (yes we've all heard this story before.) The funny part is how Rick pronounced his name... "Ars." Not unlike "Arse" but more like "Arz." In any case, he said it like three times and I was screaming at the radio... my friends could not figure out why. They said, "Arrs is a really weird name." I replied, "That's because it's not his name. Rick Dees screwed it up!" They asked what his name really was, and I said "Atz." Oddly, I got the same response from them. :) Keep cool! - -tim 'burkeman' - ---------------------------------------- "Being on the list gets you on the list" ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Jul 1997 00:17:37 -0400 (EDT) From: "Timothy Paul Mccormick Jr" Subject: Totally NJC: Highlander I was just wondering if there were any fans of the TV show Highlander out there. I am a huge fan, and other than spending money on CD's, I spend on Highlander merchandise. So I happen to have some extra videos. I have the Highlander Blooper Reel, Life and Times of Duncan MacLeod, and the first two episodes. These are directly from the Highlander CATALOGUE. So if there is anyone out there who want to trade for angelfood, hell you can never have too much angelfood, or anything let me know. Or I could have a Highlander trivia Raffle.
