You know, one of the things Jewel complimented us on, when she found out about her loyal internet fan base, was how "non-gossipy" we were. I don't have a particular problem with people speculating about Jewel's love life, but I think she kinda expects that we won't spread rumors about her or link her with the "hunk-of-the-week". For this reason, I would recommend that rumors, especially ones where "i don't know if it's true but that is what I have heard" appear in the text, not be posted "just to make sure that everyone knows about them". :-) Quotes from "respected" sources such as entertainment mags, OTOH, make fun reading occasionally, if only because we like to see how wrong they can be on occasion. And that does give us a source for the rumor, at the same time. :-) Not a flame (I don't mean to harass any particular poster), just some food for thought... - -- | Greg Dunn | "There was never a moment you | | gregdunn@indy.net | ever got within a hundred | | GregDunn@aol.com | million miles of my soul." | | http://members.aol.com/gregdunn/ | Patty Griffin | ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Jul 1997 02:39:09 -0400 (EDT) From: JonBoy911@aol.com Subject: Re: Jewel and Jakob Dylan In a message dated 97-07-05 16:01:14 EDT, c14_smith@hotmail.com (Christopher Smith) writes: << I heard from my best bud that Jewel was seeing the drummer from THe Red Hot Chili Peppers i don't know if it's true but that is what I have heard. >> His name is Chad Smith, and last I heard he was married, JonBoy911 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 05 Aug 1997 22:06:11 -0700 From: "schu.sacc" Subject: Re: Chemical Brothers The Chemical Bros. are alright. Quite a way to spend an Early Sunday Morning, I must say. So, to get to the meat of the sandwich (or soy patty, should you be vegan), I've just gotta respond to the most common threads as of late. Number One: Jewel's crooked teeth are distinctive. If she were to get braces, those would be almost as individual. And while we all hope that her "health don't go to hell," I'd like to see her keep the minor-imperfections-which-end-up-making-her-even-more-beautiful, such as the teeth. Now if only she would start eating again, since she's getting too skinny.... Number Two: EDA's have been clashing lately. This is nothing new, at least, not since I've joined. A few EDA's have tried to extend a list-wide olive branch. It seems the bickering worries some of us. But the way I see this is, we are like one REALLY BIG family. We are Jewel's distant 12th cousins five times removed, and her biggest supporters. Swiss Family Kilcher, if you like. And since we are a large family with scores of different ideas on the EDAF, Teeth, Critisism of the Angelic One, even the car she should drive or how to hang the toilet paper, we can't be expected to agree every time. But this is good. If we all decided to not argue, we'd have feelings, thoughts, happiness and anger that go unmentioned. But I confide my darkest emotions and most firery anger in my family. I yell and scream and sometimes cry. But I have the faith in my family to not take it hard, to understand that is my way, and to love me unconditionally. And if we would all realize that this IS a family, I think we could say stuff w/o fear of alienation or hurt feelings. And I implore anyone who disagrees with me to say so via private e-mail or through the list. I promise I won't get my feelings hurt :) Thirdly: I leave for college in 37 days. I will disconnect this e-mail account in 30 days or less. Once in college, I will try to resubscribe to the list. But since I'm taking 18 credit hours this first semester, I don't know if I'll have time. So, I send this request out to any and all EDA's in the Nashville, TN area. I would like to get together with all my nearby Angels before I leave. Nothing special, just a group dinner at TGIFriday's or something like that. If you'll be in the Music City within the next month, send me an e-mail. Being a fan of phish this is important to me :) The lighting and animation also added to the music which was also cool, the images were very interesting, and somehow?? fit the non lyrical music. Also i must say about lolla... KoRn, is very entertaining and fun on stage. Feildy blew me away, definatly the best bassist (imo) in heavy music. And TOOL....well....it's TOOL. He was the guy offering the Jewel posters for $10.50. So I said that I wanted one, and he gave me his address which I don't think I have anymore, and told me to send him the money and when he received it, that he'd tell me, and send me the poster. So me, being only 15, not having a checking account, was stupid enough to send him money. I was even nice enough to send him $11.00 instead of $10.50 so that the postman wouldn't take the money and I said that he could keep the change. It's been a while now since I sent him the money, so today I looked up his profile on America Online and he had no profile. So then I found what his email address was by looking at the mail that I've sent. So I wrote him a letter and when I pushed "send" it said that he was no longer an AOL member. What an a**hole!!! Anyways, I just wanted to warn you guys and to let you all know to be careful and to never send money!! But I do know that if Jewel would not have become popular i probably would not have had the chance to enjoy and love her music as much as i do...My ex boyfriend introduced me to Jewel's music and I can know say i'm a die-hard jewel fan. no, i haven't been a fan as long as many of you but i still love Jewel just as much. One thing i did want to comment on is small vs. large venues. I've seen Jewel in concert once. At the Chicago theather. and i believe a big cocert hall just isn't fitting for jewel. SHe seems like such a personable person that a small place like the Metro in chicago seems perfect. Just wanted to state my opinoin on this THanks... She just doesn't understand them. ``I'd never heard Joni Mitchell before I did my album,'' the 23-year-old singer-songwriter says in the August issue of US magazine. ``I'd heard a lot of Bob Dylan, Ella Fitzgerald. ... I've never been a real music fan. I'm odd that way.'' So odd, she confesses, that a friend used to bring her up to speed by playing selections from his record collection. ``I'd never heard the Replacements,'' she says. ``I'd never heard the Beatles' `White Album.' He sat me down and had what he called Jewel 101 classes.'' Her debut, ``Pieces of You,'' has already spawned two hit singles -- ``Who Will Save Your Soul?'' and ``You Were Meant for Me.'' Jewel says she is simply amazed by her success. ``It's like a jalopy winning the Indy 500,'' she says. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Jul 97 12:36:39 PDT From: dmoreno@thrasher.calstatela.edu (Daniel Moreno) Subject: Re: What Is Jewel To Most Of You I just got on this list and the reason I did was to find out more about Jewels music and her career and stuff cause I did not know about her till about a few months ago when a friend of mine introduced me to her music . . . you were meant for me . . . love that song . . . anyway . . . what Casey said is true . . all I read about is Jewels tooth or whatever and stuff . . . well . . . i could have said more but I forgot what it was I wanted to say . . . her music inspired me last night . . . Danny . . . newbie EDA Hi, I know this doesn't appeal to everyone but I mean, I thought we were here to celebrate Jewel's music, and here you guys, constantly, bring up all these topics of Jewels' teeth and Jewels' hair, and everything that is so superficial that it makes me sick! I mean, dammit, that's the reason we all subscribed to this list! I mean we were all moved by the music that she created, and still I read post after post of the same crap! I mean is Jewel a performer or a freak to you people? Please, i know she has a face and a body, but franckly that shouldn't be our business, we are here to talk about and celebrate that fact that we like Jewel's usic and her attitude about life1 Not what kind of dress she wore at the Grammies! I know I'm probably gonna get a bunch of stupid responces to this as well trying to convince me that I'm being stupid or speaking a little bit harshly, and that may be parcally true, but all I know is that I like her tunes, and I know that other do to. I mean, what if Jewel was ugly and fat or something, would there be all of you on this list? Its like Jewel writes us a few letters to us and you feel that gives you the right to comment in anything! So remember, before you answer me with a big F-you comment, think of the reason you subscribed to this list in the first place and try to understand what I mean, because some of you won't.
