But I digress. It seems like whenever I read an article or hear about the movie, there's at least some mention of "Elle MacPherson as Batman's Love Interest." Didn't look like he was too interested to me. She had barely any lines...I figure this is because she can't act and they either didn't give her many to begin with or that took all of them out in the cutting room. She needs to stick with modeling. Was her character really necessary? Would we have cared if his so-called love interest had been a little known actress or if the character didn't exist at all? But, contrary to previous reports, Ringo Starr appeared as a star (yes, from Ursa Minor) on the picture sleeve to his record, "Photograph". He did not appear by the Klaatu space craft until the "No No Song/Goodnight Vienna" single (being the closing transmission on all Klaatu broadcasts -- after logging in the space coordinates all Klaatu pilots sign off "Good night, Vienna". This is something of an in-joke in certain galaxies where it is known that Klaatu worship hot-dogs. It was, in fact, the rise to prominence of greasy, greasy hot dogs on buttered up buns that first drew them to planet earth in the 1950s. But since their language contains no "W" or "R" sounds -- the word "wiener" comes out sounding like "viena" -- hence, with a little nose-tweaking, the "Goodnight, Vienna" signoff.) The Klaatu song "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" was first played using a G-string only. Once it was picked up by family channels, the rest of the strings were added to dress things up some more. The kookybaka decoder has yet to find any hidden meaning in the following Klaatu lyrics: "With your mind you have ability to form/ and transmit thought energy far above the norm/ you close your eyes and concentrate/ together that's the way to send the message/ we declare world contact day." If they are are self-evident as they appear, then Gianny/Ackublagh may have been sent for a friendlier purpose than to turn our world into a giant wedgie... Jeff ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Jun 97 11:45 From: JGRIESE@nacolah.com (Griese, Jeff) Subject: Jewel Unplugged CD: Beatles : POY bash Hi All! Just some more ramblings regarding a few topics: Jewel Unplugged CD: I would love for them to put out an unplugged CD of Jewels performance. I know from posts from EDAs that were at the taping that she in fact played more songs than what was aired, including SIBTW, Under the Water, and many of your other favorites. And as in past releases of Unplugged CDs, they include songs that weren't necessarily aired. I have Rod Stewart, Nirvana, 10,000 Maniacs, & Neil Young unplugged CDs and every one of them is longer than the TV airings, hence, contain un-aired songs from the taping. So, I would recommend EVERYONE to send letters or emails to MTV or Viacom (whoever has the rights to this performance) to strongly consider releasing this as a CD. The Beatles Exposure: If you are recommending Beatles albums for the EDA who hasn't truly experienced the Beatles, I would strongly encourage him to get the Beatles Anthology CDs. Not only will he get the great music from three different eras in the Beatles careers(each CD is a 2-CD set and spans many albums), but will also hear how the Beatles sounded live, raw, in development, interviewed, and how they're unique personalities related to each other as well as to their music. If he gets nothing else, I would definitely get these Anthology CDs, especially to someone who has never truly experienced the phenomenom known as the Beatles. Also, getting back to the Unplugged performance. How about her comment on her POY album: "Aren't you guys getting tired of the POY album?" Is this a jab at Atlantic for holding off her release of a new album. Thats the way I take it. How does Atlantic feel about that? Maybe she's endorsing an Unplugged CD. He's a very gifted songwriter, guitarist and singer. While we have frequently directed other EDA's to female performers who are kindred spirits to Jewel (such as Paty Griffin and Tara), Ron is one of the few male performers who I consider to be in the same league as her. His first cd was literally doomed to be scrapped by his record company until the personal (and frequent) intervention by Elvis Costello, who was given a copy and apparently just loved it. And to that on going thread about me, please be gentle when i'm gone ;-) " The answer is in this message. Using a patented kookybaka decoder pen, "cousins" translates to "programmers" who call deprogramming or reprogramming "relaxing" since all circuits are unplugged for a time; the term "camping" refers to the parking or "camping" of the mother ship behind a certain star in Ursa Minor. "please be gentle when I'm gone ;-)" is the closest that Gianny will ever get to saying what's really in his heart... If he tried to post the true purpose of his absence his "cousins" would immediately transport him to a galaxy where he could only be seen on John Tesh mail lists. This occurrence has already been noted in Ontario -- since the Maple Leafs hockey team missed the playoffs dozens of people have mysteriously gone on "camping" trips -- some up to the mysterious "lakes" district. But only Gianny is headed for Ursa Minor. I know all EDAs will miss him, and we'll be gentle, and whoever comes back in your place, we'll give them the same love... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Jun 1997 18:21:11 -0400 From: Jeffrey Miller Subject: Re: Unplugged a Dissapointment? Not only will he get the great music from three different eras in the Beatles careers(each CD is a 2-CD set and spans many albums), but will also hear how the Beatles sounded live, raw, in development, interviewed, and how they're unique personalities related to each other as well as to their music. If he gets nothing else, I would definitely get these Anthology CDs, especially to someone who has never truly experienced the phenomenom known as the Beatles. I agree with the writer except that some of the Anthology tracks would not be good for a first time listener. For example, on Anthology 3, Paul screws up the lyrics to Rocky Raccoon. I, as a Beatles addict, treasure these moments, but most would not be interested in that type of stuff. In a message dated 97-06-26 16:38:44 EDT, igorwas@smartcitysys.com (Victor Igor Wasylczenko) writes: << We have our own Little Mary Epperson on the list. This EDAs name is Man-D (FabCAGal@aol.com). For those of you that haven't met her let me describe her. She can be seen on Newport Ave in Ocean Beach with her skateboard that is bigger than her. In her hand is cell phone which is in constant use. At other times she is all dolled up as if ready for a stroll down Hollywood Blvd. Her bleached blonde hair all puffed out, a dress scandalously short and showing a lot of cleavage, and a face made up for a Cosmo cover shot is a fair description. When she met James (JPK Trust) at BagelBash, she asked him for his phone number. She calls him all the time. When we went out with James for a night of music at Java Joe's, she and Jamie sat at his side. I overheard some of Man-D's conversation with James. She asked James if he would go skateboarding with her. "Do you think that wheelchair is strong enough to pull me. Is it fast? You can race me down the Strand." Then she started to talk about surfing. I was tempted to tell her to change the subject. I thought it was in bad taste to talk about such things with someone that was a quadreplegic. When James was leaving we talked for a while outside. He told me he really enjoyed the night out. He especially liked Man-D. "She talked to me like people did before my accident. She didn't treat me different." >> Igor...thank you for the kind words, and description. I decided to reply to this to simply stress the importance that when encountering people with a disability, especially one they were not born with, you should certainly treat them as you would if they were not in the chair. I guess I have no problem with this since my mother is disabled (although not in a chair). My take on James, from what he had shared, is that he was a very active surfer/snowboarder prior to the accident...so, I looked at him as if he were just another hottie surfer that was sitting in a bar next to me. James is not dead! He just has a few more obstacles than some...like, I have short arms...so it takes me twice as long to paddle into the surf, and shorter legs that make me push myself on my skateboard twice as much. Oh well, I say...even though I have short fat fingers that are frustrating me in trying to make a C chord sound good on my guitar...I WILL do it...it just may take longer. And I am sure that James feels the same...that is what he shares with me. James is the coolest dude! And, we will be skating down Garnet soon. My bet is that he will be out of the chair soon, and stealing all my waves! Rule: EVERYONE has a flaw...some are just more obvious than others. Treat them all the same. As people. This brings my friend with HIV to mind. People treat him like a monster. I treat him as if he had any other illness...like a cold, or asthma, or an allergy to cats. What should it matter? I hope everyone agrees. Man-D the "surfer/skater/Starrybartender" angel... Oh, and Igor, I already made my post! Where is yours? And again, thank you for the kind words! You too, have made a difference in James' life with your hard work! ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #491 ***************************
