It all started for me on Thursday with picking Mia up from the airport. After we left there I had to take her to see some classic Oklahoma sights, you know like the Cowboy Hall Of Fame. After a nice dinner we were off to SAM's for the first barrage of food and supplies for our trip. We finally made it home later and started the preperations for some great food that we would have over the weekend. Friday morning we were up and off early to pick up my friend Ashe at the airport and then headed over to the RV place. Just as we were about to settle for a small version of the EDA HQ because ours hadn't made it, the "Pimp RV" rolled in. We all fell in love and decided that it was worth the wait. We finally got out of there and after another stop at SAM's we were off to Fort Worth. I think we made it to the speedway around dusk. The traffic was relativly slow, enough so that we got out and had a few conversations with people in the cars behind us. Thanks to the miracle of the cell phoe we met up with the others and immediatly got out the grill and started cookin. Everyone quickly took advantage of the shower and relaxed until the party started. Eric and I went off for a few hours exploring the Mardi Gras like atmosphere. I had to come back to sneak the RV out in the wee hours of the mornin to fill the water tank so we could all have fresh showers in the morning. After a whopping 2 hours of sleep on the HUGE dashboard of the RV I was up at dawn with the sounds of bass vibrating my stomach. Everyone slowly awoke and made it in to eat some breakfast and watch some Sat morning cartoons =) After shifts were assigned to come back to the RV we all left and headed in the HUGE Raceway to find some seats. I only got to see the first couple of bands before my shift had come around and I was off to the HQ. Turns out that there was always sombody in the RV making use of that wonderful A/C. I headed back to the venue with Dan and Pete and hung out with them. They managed to sneak me in the press box and find a route backstage, which would come in very handy later =) Dan decided that he would be a saint and let Mia and I use the passed to get some close up pictures of Jewel from the Media tower with my camera, he wouldn't know how close we would get =) Mia and I took that route backstage again after very strategic timing so as not to get stopped and finally made it into the back. There we would stay for the next 4 hours hanging out with All of the bands. After a lot of patience and low key movment we got some great pics of Jacob Dillan, Collective Soul, and many others until finally.....JEWEL. I was squatting down in front of the Counting Crows tour bus to rest when she pulls up in a white bronco and I was about to jump out of my shorts. I got some great pics which will be up on Erics page when he gets back from camping. I think even Bob Scott would be proud of me =) After waiting nearly an hour and a half for her to go on I saw my friend Jennifer who is dating Zac from the Nixons and I had in my hand her Stage Pass so I could get on stage to take pictures of Jewel while performing. She took off and came back a few minutes later saying that she needed it until she went on so she wouldn't get kicked out and that she would find me. Jewel was on the way out and Mia and I decided that we didin't want to chance missing Jewel so we went out front to the VIP seating and got some pics from in front of the stage. We tryed to get backstage again after that but the security was tight by now so we were out of luck. We made our way back to the others and decided to head out early so as to beat the traffic and make it to our campsite to relax. We made it out easy enough but didn't have much luck finding the site until it was already closed. We slept out front until they opened and started cooking. I patened the famous FARR-JITA'S and did a little swimming. After waiting out the Tornado warnings and rain we headed back to Oklahoma so Ashe could catch his flight out. I finally got home about 11:00 and after a short talk in IRC we were out for the count. The next day was host to CLEANING, lots of stuff inthe RV that had to be removed and cleaned. Mia and I rode up to OKC one last time before we stopped for lunch and she was off for COLUMBUS where she lives =) > > I wanted to thank all the people who were able to make it and help this be another memorable EDA gathering. Also special thanks to Mia for her help with just about everything and being the EDA mom in Fort Worth. To Angela who I hope is feeling much better for her help in all the local affairs. To Derrick for the Awesome flags and his help on the committee. To Christina who I bonded with in NJ for all the hard work she put in on the carpooling. To Dan Stark for being a great individual and giving me the best back stage experience I could have ever wished for. And really to everyone for their generosity for helping me recoup on the RV. I really had a great time and hope everyone else did too. > > Stay Tunned for the RF WebPage courtesy of Eric with some crazy pics of all of us and hopfully some great pics of Jewel and other RF artists. > > Farr > ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Jun 97 03:01:34 EDT From: anand.gajjala@adn.alcatel.com (Anand Gajjala) Subject: Jewel in France! OK, I think that Gianny honey has been fooling us all along. He has been trying to cover up Erica's co-conpirator in taking over the world (and eventually the universe), even though he has never met the true co-conspirator in person. I guess that just makes it easier to hide the identity, you know? BUT... ...Igor, who was in cohorts with Puddie and Gianny and the other co-conspirator, slipped and revealed the true identity. PUDDIE'S REAL CO-CONSPIRATOR IN TRYING TO TAKE OVER THE UNIVERSE IS NONE OTHER THAN OUR BELOVED CRUNCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just think about it...Crunch gives people little crunch bars...Erica gives people pudding...and I do have to say that crunch bars and pudding taste rather well together. Hell, I will admit that they both have me entranced beyond all belief. Although Puddie has never fed me pudding, she has had me so enraptured that I even sent her a box of pudding to surprise her. And Crunch, well, we all know that I have followed him from the very first time i met him...his plan for sucking me into his "cult" (As Igor so affectionately and cautiously pointed out) has been underway for about a month, and no sooner did I finish the bag of crunch bars he gave me than I wrote a poem in his honour with my dear friend Ali. So I am to reveal the true plan: Puddie and Crunch seek to take over the world. Their sidekick is Chels, SkaSpice, the (now former) "secret" SpiceGirl. I am currently working with them, on a secret project, a project which I can not reveal (or else I would have to kill all those who find out...). I must get back to my project and to worhipping my Crunch-god and my Puddie-Princess. love you all stephanie ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Jun 1997 07:42:15 -0700 From: naveenrao@juno.com (Naveen Rao) Subject: Re: EDA Idea You know, I love these EDA merchandise ideas...it turns us from an online group to a major organization :) In fact, in addition to the shirts, hats, picks, and bumper stickers, and posters, I have compiled a list of other possible marketing successes :) 1. I just got off the phone with the designers of the Batmobile, and they have agreed to view my prototype for the EDAMobile. It will be light blue of course, complete with blue plush interior, and will include a device I myself have created. Similar to the radar detector, my EDA detector will locate EDAs within a 100 mile radius of the EDAMobile and print directions to get to them. Another nice feature is the stylish Jewelstock angel standing 6 feet high from the roof of the car. The programmable horn will play a 10 second clip of your choice of Jewel song or Gianny's Amazon Women War Cries ;-) If accepted by the designers, the EDAMobile could be on the market as soon as early '98. Please feel free to make any further suggestions, as the design can still be changed. 2. A full line of EDApparel is in the works. Yes, that's right, I've just signed with the Hanes Corporation and they have agreed to my designs for light blue EDA shoes, socks, underwear, pants, jackets, and nightcaps. I told them no shirt was necessary however, because I didn't want to detract business from Phil or other EDAMerchandise retailers. They will also be producing EDA towels and shower caps with the same design. Once again, the designs have not been finished, so requests may still be taken. ;-) In addition, the Hanes Corporation has suggested that we diversify even more to expand our client base, and create EDA pens, post-it notes, and mouse pads for the more office- oriented customers. On a sad note however, they have refused to create Gianny G-strings, as the general public may not approve of such a garment. ;-) 3. My television company has agreed to air a six-week pilot session of our very own EDAHour. It will be a prime-time show, replacing the first hour of TGIF on ABC. During this hour, EDAs can freely express their true views of the Amazonian people and practice their cult rites and rituals. A special area of the set has been equipped with candles and incense sticks and small bronzed Jewel idols to complete the Jewel Shrine ;-) Also, another portion of the set has been designated the IRCorner, with a safe haven complete with easy-to-access rafters to take refuge from #Jewel. 4. An EDA Custom Home is also being negotiated. However, I'm not proficient when it comes to designing houses, so if there are any EDArchitects around, I would be more than willing to collaborate with you on this task. After considering and reconsidering, I have decided that I would like to run with Phil (The T-Shirt Guy) for co-chair of the Merchandise Committee of the EDAF. I would sincerely appreciate your vote. Thank You. Naveen P.S. In the remote case that you think I was serious about all this, I can say nothing more than "Child, you've got some big problems" However, if these ideas ever formulate into real options, I have already spoken to Larry (Kookybaka) about the legal aspects of this post, and he has said that I do, in fact, have legal rights to all of the aforementioned thoughts. ;-) Sorry about the long post...couldn't help myself =) On Tue, 24 Jun 1997 18:06:48 -0400 (EDT) MikeDreams@aol.com writes: >Hi EDAs! > >I was just wondering if there has been any consideration on getting an >EDA bumper sticker made available. While we will very likely get a lot of attention from people we know, we may be dismissed as "just another random acts of kindness group" by the local media. Any group or foundation needs attention to survive. I don't mean attention such as EDAs having a mention in a magazine or being interviewed on local news as Jewel fan club members. That's why I believe we need to figure out a policy which separates us from "the random acts of kindness" image. Our acts will certainly not be random...they will be calculated and thought out like our involvement with the JPK Trust Fund or the Blood Drive. We will need to present the EDAF to our areas as a unique group of truly optimistic people who sincerely think the world can be changed for the better if everyone cares for their fellow man. We believe this is very possible, as we have shown with our previous actions. We will need to show ourselves to be unique so that we do get the attention we will need to grow. With the attention will come several new avenues of help to pursue, and several people wanting to join and help with the EDAF. Feel free to tell me if I'm way off base. :-) Just my .02. Well, I will do my best not to innundate the list with too much ranting and raving about how amazing beautiful the location is for Starry Night. You guys have no idea how inspiring this beach is...perfect, calming, wonderful! Igor, I kiss the ground you walk on for finding this place and sharing it with me...and now the other EDA's. You guys, I am getting married at this beach! That is how beautiful it is! (Maybe I should get engaged first...oh well, details, details). For those of you in CA already, that have a taste of the majestic scenery that our state has to offer, I assure you, you will still be quite impressed with the untainted sand on this beach. There were more cows (seriously) than people on this land. We even saw these two huge elk! And for those of you that don't have the great opportunity to live in CA and be milked for all the money you make in taxes...oh, tangent, sorry....but those of you who do not live here where we are blessed with beautiful landscape all around (and perfect weather in San Diego) you are going to see CA at it's best! Angels...this is a beach that makes you feel alive! This is a beach that makes you want to smile from the deepest part of your existence. This is a beach that makes you create poetry and songs from your heart that you never knew were there! Even the drive, up and down this mountain (that you have to make to reach the beach) is captivating...full of rolling hills, ocean views to die for, cows, trees, plants that are pretty and taste yucky, and two abandon shacks that John-Eric and I will move too for a nice ocean view at a great price! I have no doubt that we are going to have the best EDA Gathering ever at this location. Actually, I can bet that more pieces of artistic work will be born from this gathering than any other! Igor, Igor, Igor!!! Thank you for taking me to Pt. Sal...even if I did get my heart broken by my "Racecar Driver" in Santa Maria! Oh well, his loss. I already have other interests, that are filled with more passion. Anyway, You guys have to show up at Starry Night...because Igor went through a helluva lot of trouble to organize...and I am going to be there...and because this is the most beautiful place in the world! We are so lucky! (Just don't sleep with Igor like I did, and you won't need as much counseling when you get home). How about *that*?!!! It was a good one too! Something like..."It's so F*cking hot!" I just found this interesting...the angelic Jewel, being the only one cussing on stage that day (aside from being part of a song). Needless to say, she won over a bunch of the crowd. So I guess it worked. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Jun 1997 11:41:27 -0400 (EDT) From: Faery85364@aol.com Subject: Re: A new tread Personally i liked jewel's hair best when it was layered. Also, is Batman and Robin worth seeing? I heard from one person it was alright and from another it was aweful, the worst Batman and Robin movie yet. Is Foolish Games played in the background or can you actually hear it? Is the entire song played? The media constantly focuses on "poor Jewel, who was homeless & living in her van". After reading this, you'll discover what her friends & older fans already knew: That was a wonderful carefree time in her life. Exactly the opposite of how the media usually portrays this time period. Not only is it one of the most intelligent published Jewel interviews, it's very insightful if you are curious about Lenedra & her influence on Jewel's perceptions of the world. The brief side interview with Lenedra speaks volumes on how Jewel became so focused. This interview should be mandatory reading for all EDAs (& parents). Oh & a few people have written me privately asking why I always refer to her as Lenedra as opposed to her more common nickname "Nedra". I simply have a thing for 3 syllable names & I like hers in particular. :-) MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Jun 1997 12:11:43 -0400 (EDT) From: Tlcathome@aol.com Subject: Re: NJC:Gianny? and the EDA Spice Girls?!?!
