I couldn't agree more. There is really no sense in talking about EDA gatherings more than a month in advance, as final plans never really develop until the last three weeks anyway. Heck, last year for JewelStock, although the list was abuzz with talk of it for six weeks prior to the event, the real final planning did not begin to shape up until two weeks before the event, and this was an event that drew over 200 EDAs and guests. So perhaps it IS best to hold off on talk of EDA gatherings until 2 to 3 weeks before, as Bill said, MUCH can change, and it usually does. Mike :) === New to the list and confused? Being the hard-core cynic that I am, I don't believe a single one......untill last night. In my dream, I'm sitting on a bench on beach. Actually, now that I think of it, it's a surf board somehow proped up on each side so it's horizontal. The sun is beating down on me and the sand is white and the water is so clear blue. I look to my right and some guy is sitting next to me, and to my left is Jewel. Huh. So for some reason I'm telling Jewel my aspirations and dreams and this stanger is listening in. Finally he turns to me and says, "well, how do you think you can pull this off? Entertainment is a hard road." So Jewel turns to me and says "Focus. I always did. Just always stay focused and you'll be okay." And that was it. Isn't that uplifting. It will also be available at the headlining shows Jewel will be doing in late August and September :) I've been told this is really slick :) In addition to all the lyrics to the songs from the "Pieces Of You", it will have the lyrics to Flower, Race Car Driver and one more song. (She told me one of the extra songs was Angel Standing By, but that is on POY, so my guess is it will be another song from either the "Save The Linoleum" or the "Phyliss Barnaby Finally Gets A Bra" promo CDs, like maybe Cold Song, Rocker Girl, Emily or God's Gift To Women (as Flower and Racer Car Driver are on "Save The Linoleum") Also, once they get the smail newsletter set up, it will be available through mail order. (No idea when the newsletter starts, NO plans to sell the book in stores) Oh, one more thing...it has the web addresses to three Jewel web pages, no idea if they are all owned by EDAs or which three they are. I'm home, safe and sound and in one piece from Rockfest! and... WOW it was awsome. but first things first here... I don't know what the heck MTV and VH1 are telling you folks, but every setlist posted so far is wrong. so here's the "Official" one. why is it official?? Because Farr and I wrote it down, while there, in person, chillin in the VIP seating section. (Dan Stark and his media passes rock let me tell you) (and oh are there stories where those passes got us). SO, the ACTUAL setlist!!!! Pieces of you (started out with Big Blue, and she 'screwed up' the lyrics a bit) Been Down so Long (different version, it took awhile to recognize) Who Will Save your Soul Morning Song Fading Away Love me, Just Leave me Alone Down ("this is the first time in my life I've played electric guitar") Sometimes it Be That Way Foolish Games Near You Always (Acoustic G) You Were Meant for Me, (the crowd started *clapping* along. of course, they were crowd surfing too....) You were Meant for Me (following right from the previous, a *serious* rocked version, odd, but cool). Dancing Barefoot (waaaaaaay kewl song) So....... I really could write for days about what an incredible experience this was, but I'll shorten and add more when others get their reviews in :) it was SO GREAT seeing everyone! I got to meet my Secret santa, Angela!!! didn't get to talk much :( but got to hug her which was more than both of ever thought would happen! :) Farr rocks, I'm gonna kidnap him from OK and move him to Cleveland so I can see him all the time. He's one of THE MOST generous people I've *ever* met, and a fabulous host, and an RV driving phenomenon! Tom Miles was the miracle angel of friday night... everything we forgot or needed he seemed to manage to pull out of the air "damn, we really need another cooler" "here you go!" "we;re completely out of ice" "here's 5 bags, need more?" not to mention our Cell phone conversation on the way in which was nothing less that hysterical "O.k. we;re in a rolling house, it's tan colored and we're right in front of the Coke sign, do you see us?" "o.k. I'm there too, I think I see you" "I'm in the doorway waving, do you see me waving? where are you!!" "Mia, turn around" so I get out and see him standing on the other side of the RV. So we hugged eachother while talking via the phones. Cell Phones saved our butts in many an occasion. :) Got to meet Tien after many an IRC conversation, and See Eric again, you crazy crazy boy ;) among others. Soo..... about these media passes..... they're not *supposed* to get you into the "max security" backstage area, but if you play like you have a purpose in your walk and take a "wrong turn" well... you can get there :) So Farr and I spent the better part of the main-stage shows hangin out backstage, looking for the no where to be seen Jewel. after a while we sorta got sick of watching The Wallflowers get interviewed by Tabitha Soren (that mTV news chick) so we were leaning up againt a (collective soul's I think) tour bus in the tiny bit of shade it had. up pulls a white blazer thing. there are three people in the back, gee, that girl in the middle looks alot like JEwel.... so, not more than 20 feet away, Jewel and her mystery band people walk out of the truck and into the "artist;s compound". She walks back out 2 minutes later in a different shirt and went on stage (we couldn't get there). SOmewhere in the midst of waiting to see if she'll walk back down, I almost get run over by Jakob Dylan. yes, ladies, Jakob Dylan, right there, in life, I literally had to run out of the way as they exited the stage and were mobbed by TV crews. Adam Durtiz (sp?) of the COunting Crows seemed to be the only one who got a limo in, and he was ushered into the artist's area, unlike most everyone else. We could have gotten a picture with Paula COle if one of us had the moxi to ask first (this was so dumb, but too late now!). And Farr was *so close* to getting an artist's pass to get on stage to watch Jewel's set, but I'll let him tell you about his connections :). and watch VH1 when they interview collective soul, cuz I had to be the dork who walked right behind them in a vain attempt to get on TV (I know, dumb, but the opportunity was just tooooo perfect. and NO I did not wave or anything, just walked through!) enough name dropping, I'm gonna make myself sick here. IS this long enough yet?? we left the speedway saturday evening before the mobs and No Doubt and went to Grapevine Lake and spent Sunday just relaxing and swimming and reliving Saturday :) >From there Farr, Jessi (Farr's friend and my only other female companion of the day!), and Ashe said goodbye to the camping crew (Tom, Eric and Steve who are still camping somewhere in the US so We're told, with Christina and her friends) and to Dan, Tien, etc.. To go back to OKC.... and... well, I guess that's all! *!*!*!*!*!*but a note to everyone there: I know I've already been bugging people about this too much, but just as a reminder, if you did not give Farr money for the food, rv, etc... please please please do so!! He's being way modest about how much money was spent on this thing and I happened to see the accounting figures. and as we all know, 1/2 the people we expected didn't show, so that sorta messed up some things. So, PLEASE, if you can, send him more money! we don't wanna make him so in debt that he'll not be able to make it to any more gatherings for awhile! (and from what I saw that would be the case, I'm just not in the position to give you all the actual figure.) so.... please please please. much thanks! and... welll... But, you know, if Jewel doesn't get > anything from this...well, that's pretty shitty. Jewel does not get one cent from this purchase. you purchased an unauthorized bootleg cd. Jewel has asked her fans not to purchase these cds. i can't help but think that if you had been given all th relevant information about how Jewel does not receive any of the proceeds.... you probably wouldn't have bought the cd. i never want this list to turn into a place where people say "i gotta have that bootleg cd." but i do know that last fall when i publicised the existence of two bootleg cds, i received at least a dozen letters from EDAs thanking me for explaining that the cds were in fact bootlegs. these EDAs had seen the discs in question in stores and had considered butying them, but they changed their minds when they were presented with enough infop to make an inforemed decision. once most EDAs have the relevant info, they will choose not to buy these products. so i do think that the policy of no discussion of bootlegs is a double edged sword. some EDAs will mistakenly but a CD becasue they don't realise that Jewel does not condone the prooduct or receive any revenue from its sale. but on the other hand i don't want to see people saying "i gotta have this cd" on balance i'd prefer that people make informed decisions peace, dave *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Dave DiCicco peaches@dmapub.dma.org "Innocence Maintained" is a moderated, news only email list providing its subscribers with timely information about Jewel Kilcher. I'll make it as short as I can. Before I get started I want to ask if anyone out there got an audio copy of the show. I know it was webcast and I think that a few Radio stations aired it. I really would like to trade for this show if anyone got either. Now, lets get to business. I had been planing on making this trip to Texas ever since March 22nd when Farr Shepared had passed out the little blockbuster thing that told all about it at the Kansas City Jewel show (well, actually at the hotel but I digress). I never thought that I would come as close as I did to not making it. On the Wednsday before the show I was infromed that my ride to Texas has still not been sucured. A lot of frenzied E-mailing leed me nowhere but with no responses. So thursday night it was looking I would end up sitting home while I should be at the show. On top of all of that my e-mail account went down for a while and I wasn't getting any mail wich I figured might have to do with me getting a ride. So (long story shot) I ended up on the phone with Farr and aranged to fly down to meet him Farr in Oaklahoma City and then ride down to the show with him. So I took my first plane ride (and loved it) and meet up with my fellow EDA's at about 11:45 am friday morning. From there we went to the RV place to pick up the EDA HQ for the weekend. We had to wait for the RV to be enspected. We waited for hours. We took over their break room and wandered around all the small houses (otherwise known as lage RV's) while waiting. After a long time we where finaly on the road... sorta. We still had to pick up A LOT OF FOOD at the local Sam's store and but all the blue ribions to the RV. THEN we where finaly on the road. Three hours later (we got there about 9:00pm friday night) we pulled into the long line outside the speedway. There in line we got all kinds of attention. All the people liked our mighty HQ. After a while we ended up in the parking lot trying to find the other EDA's. Mia stood in the door talking to Tom Miles on the protable phone trying to direct him to us. I'm looking out the door over her shoulder trying to see someone. I start to hear the voice on the ohter end of the phone get louder and saying "turn around". About then I realize that the sound is coming from behind me. I dash to the other side and pop my head out the window to see the man behind the voice. From there I watched a scene I thought only happened in movies... shows what I know. I watch Tom stand there and evntually Mia comes around the side of the RV to see him, they both still have the phones pressed to there ears. It was classic. Tom jumped abord and directed us to the spot that the others had reserved for the RV. There the BBQ was set up as we got to meet the others EDA's there. We all hung out and talked and ate and had a good time. The people around us got in the spirits of the party a little more then we did. Drunk people drove by every four seconds on vans, trucks, cars, and forklifts and such yelling wildly. The main street of out little shanty (sp?) town became a hot spot of drunken entusiasm. Nudity, live music, flying beer cans. Looked like spring break. Time gose on and we eventualy end up sleeping (most of us ;]). I und up sleping in the driver seat of the RV trying to sleep with the chair slightly reclined, it works well enought. Two hours later I wake and am ready to start my day. A candy bar and a Coke (that would be just a regular Coke for all you in Oklahoma ;]) served as my breakfest before I gear up only to sit around and wait to head to the Speedway. Already people are heading in huge numbers to the doors of the Speedway (wich isn't even open yet). After a little more time (during wich we wacth saturday morning cartoons on the RV's TV) most of us head off ready to see the show. We camp out on the grass by the second screen (a LONG way from the main stage) after seeing the we would get no where close to the main stage together. I watch Souls, sleep throught Soak, and wake up for the begining of Sugar Ray's set. After a little of that I get feed up with our seats and deside to make it as close to the stage as I can. By the end of S.Ray's set I have a pretty good seat at the right of the Media box. I can see the VH1 tower perfectly and even see A.J. Hammer, he walked right by me a little later we his crew and some security. There I sit and enjoy 3rd Eye Blind and Matchbox 20. After Matchbox 20 I decide to get an even better seat before Paula Cole came on stage... I'm glad I did. I ened up by one of the stationary cameras and deside that will do fine. While getting shoved and pushed, while ducking crowd servers and verious flying objects I injoy Paula's set a great deal even if someone in front of me was bitching about how she was "country at a rock-n-roll fest". I stay there for the Wallflowers. They where pretty good and the crowd went mad for em. Still in that very spot (well sorta) I stand for over an hour waiting for Jewel so take the stage, my water is just about gone. I've been in the sun all day and I just want to see my angel and then retreat from the crowd. I waited a long time. The crowd all sang along with the WooHoo's in that new Blur song. After a long time Jewel takes the stage and gives a great prefromance as always. Got to hear "Down" for the first time and loved it. Got to hear an electric version of my fav song Somteimes it be that way. I just died when the last word of YWMFM was cut and replaced by a rocked out version of that very song. Great show, I need it on tape ;]. After that I inch through the crownd and head back to the RV. It takes forever to get out, so long that I get to see all of Collective Souls set. When I get back to the RV I rest, sunburnt but happy. Eventualy we take off in the RV and head out to find Grape Vine lake. I sleep and wake only to see little things like just how many cars have been parked along the side of the road, and to understand that we got lost. We end up outside of the RV park at Grape Vine lake, I go back to sleep. The next day I HURT but still have a good time with the other EDA's. (long story short time again) The day continues, we eat, we go to swim (well, I didn't swim :p), we have a short sing along, we survive a storm. Then we head our seperat ways. I end up back at the airport in Oklahoma City again and head back the same way i came. Then the next morning I end up on the doctors office. My sunburns turn out to be really bad (my eyes where swellen almost shut). It turns out I had 1st degree burns (just like I was in a fire). I'm now recovering. Had a great time and even this burn was worth it. Can't wait for my next EDA/Jewel expriance. - -Ashe Mayfair: The Longshot Angel "I will take you there....
