He has been luring young girls with candy. He can be recognized by his big goofy smile. Although he is not an attractive man, he does have almost a mystical appearance. He has a soft comforting voice very much like a priest. His devotees call him Dearest Devil. His favorite line is, "Would like to taste my Crunch Bar?". For that reason, many people also call him Crunch. Candy became a part of his lure from easy access to it. It all started near Hershey, PA. Recently he erected a huge sign in Hollywood on Sunset Blvd. It must be over 50 ft long and it simply has in large letters CRUNCH. It is erected near the entrance to a popular hangout for young women, Virgin Records. Latest information I have is that he is heading to LA for a meeting with many of his disciples. Be on the lookout. Further proof can be gotten by simply reading the brainwashed words of two of his devotees. It is very obvious how dangerous he can be. I was hoping to see some angels there but it didn't look like any had come until I saw a familiar face walking toward me - Russ! Ever the devoted fan, he had seen her earlier at the World Trade Center and Sam Goody (I didn't even know about these appearances) and got friendly with her record people who agreed to help him get in (this is the famous Mercury who wouldn't even let the tried and true Rugburn fans in). So we talked for about 10 minutes until Tara went on. She was very nervous because her guitar player/boyfriend was away on tour with Tom Cochran. But she came through just fine and sounded great and didn't screw up on the guitar even though she claims she never plays standing up. Well, her newest song she actually did sit down for. The set was pretty short - maybe 6 songs - but very powerful and beautiful. There wasn't much of a crowd. The largest group was from her label Nettwork but they seemed very enthusiastic. Afterwards, we talked to Tara for about 20 minutes and her manager for about 45. Tara is one of the sweetest people I've ever met. I was surprised to find out she's only 23. I was also surprised to find out that the last tour when she opened for Isaac MacAshley (or is it Ashley MacIsaac - can never keep it straight!) was her first! She had never even played live when she made her album. I must say she handled herself extremely well! Also some exciting news for her future - she's going to guest star for several episodes on a new series next year. I asked Tara if she remembered Larry (aka Kookybaka) and she said "oh that bastard" - just kidding! But she did say she was upset that she had gone to a different hotel in LA and couldn't get in touch with him to go see the Jewel concert. She's thinking of moving to California, by the way. And she thinks Jewel is very cool. She's going to be playing in Boston just before the Harbor Lights show so anyone who can get there early should definitely check her out! Eugene, Soon enough you will probably receive some interesting mail from not only Larry, but many of the other lawyers on this list. There happen to be 3 that I know of plus several law students and paralegals. I myself am not a lawyer. Not so long ago I was asked to present an award to a lawyer at the San Diego Trial Lawyers Assoc. Can you imagine how nervous I was trying to tell a joke and then have 200 lawyers laugh and then applaud. My joke was aimed at one of the other speakers and a judge that was also presenting. The speaker used a joke that stereotyped ethnic groups. The judge was worse. He was presenting an award to a woman lawyer who defended someone for sexual abuse. He made a joke about the model that was used in court to describe and point out the body parts that the defendant abused. It was shameful. The lawyer that I presented for is very much like Jewel. He has set a higher standard for his profession. Just as Jewel is a shining example what good music and musicians can be like, so are there many lawyers that you would be proud to know. You probably have heard some parent yell and say turn off that damn rock music. Does that mean all rock music is bad. Your letter is about stereotype and misinformation. Don't judge all by examples of a few. I'll let you hear from them. Larry, Dave, James, its time to give some schooling to a newbie. You don't need to be gentle, he's from Jersey so he can take it. If you would like, I'll tell you privately about a brave lawyer going up against a multi-national corporation to force them into changing a 25 cent part that was killing people. That 25 cents was more important to the corporation than the lives it would save. Igor P.S. Larry was also from Jersey. HELL YES!!!!!!! Hi all, just me Ashe here, happy to be back on the normal list again (can't take the Digest :p). I'm also happy to have survied the mighty event that was Rockfest and to be home a little bit worse for the wear. I getting the question if it was worth it (I'll explain it more latter) and I have to say yes it was. Anyway, expect a post from me later on this subject. Talk to you all soon, and let me just say it's good to be an active member again. - -Ashe Mayfair: The Longshot Angel (and I proved I have a right to that nickname this weekend ;]) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Jun 1997 20:51:05 -0500 From: Ryan Gallagher Subject: Is it just me or... Wouldn't it be nice if Jewel followed a move made by Sarah MacLachlan a year or two ago? What I'm referring to is Sarah's "B-sides and other rarities" CD. Wouldn't every EDA love to have a CD with "Race Car Driver" (from the Atlantic promo tape), "Cold Song" & "Rocker Girl" (from the YWMFM import), "Sunshine Superman" (from "I Shot Andy Warhol"), "Under the Water" (from "The Craft"), "Foolish Games" (as heard on "Batman & Robin"), "Quiet Warrior" (from the Surfrider benefit album), "Have A Little Faith In Me" (from "Phenomenon"), etc? And it could have new liner notes with lyrics and commentary! Or you could total up the bill for those CDs and mortgage your house to own all that Jewel has recorded. I just think that Sarah's release of that CD really showed consideration for her fans. I know that Jewel feels similarly to us EDAs so shouldn't we be expecting Jewel's version of "B-sides and other rarities" in the next five years? Oh wait! Even better! Make it a double album with one of the discs being "Save The Linoleum" and "Phyllis Barnaby Finally Gets A Bra" combined! Will it happen? All we can do is hope... Thanks, > Plusman aka Ryan > I can only think of three recent threads which remotely fit this description. There was the completely irrelevant "Bush-sucks-no-they-don't" thread. Then there was the "creativity"/"Joni"/"Dylan" thread. Now we have a big misunderstanding about a lawyer post. Most of these aren't attacks on anyone so I don't consider them fights. The fact is, we have a lot of people in this community and conflicts are bound to arise. Besides that, we are EDAs. We are family. 'nuff said. Hey! For anyone in Chicago, I have a question. I'm trying to narrow my college choice down and right now after a lot of researching today, Columbia College Chicago seems to be at the very top of my list. I was just wondering what people could tell me about what it is like by the college. Also, how close is it to the United Center. (I'm a big Hawks fan) I'm just trying to figure out if it is worth me going to visit and getting an application for. Also, I need to hear GOOD things to ease my parents worries! Thanks so much! A story about what can happen when you reach for what you know is right and refuse to get pulled down by the rest." And with these words, Interview magazine plugs its July cover story on Jewel Kilcher. Interviewer (and the mag's Editor in Chief!) Ingrid Sischy lets Jewel and Lenedra speak for themselves. There's no cynical spin or anything but just honest talk. Natural photos, too. Amazing what an intelligent and open journalist can contribute to allowing a broader public the opportunity to understand what EDAs know about Jewel and her purpose. The Radical Anti-Cynicism League is just going to keep growing. I may be one of the last ones on this list to see this Jewel issue, but the July issue of Interview also contains an article on Lilith Fair -- interviewing Tracy Chapman and Sarah McLachlan. It's worth buying extra copies to give to friends, family and strangers... It would be an opportunity for many of us EDAs who have never met one another to do just that. If you caught my earlier posts, I'm proposing a get together on Salt Spring Island just off the U.S./Canada border and coast. The Living Room Tour is from August 1 - 10 but whenever we all can swing it, who knows. Just keep wishing on the star that's called Jewel of the North. Why not have the Starry Night up here, if it's not the time for California. BTW, anyone know when Tara Maclean will be in these parts? I just recently learned that she lives on the same island that I do... there's potential here! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Jun 1997 22:37:49 -0400 (EDT) From: Antonio Greaney Delgado Subject: NJC: getting to know u NAME: Kneep!
