Typically, a video directed by the films' director is bad news, as they are loaded with film clips. Well, maybe a little the first verse, but the second and, especially, the ending were really passionate. Somebody mentioned how they liked her facial expressions, and I thought that was interesting because as my mother was walking up the stairs, she paused to watch Jewel perform, and commented, "She doesn't care how she looks when she sings, does she?" I told her about the comment Jewel makes on Jewestock how she hates when people take pictures of her while she's singing because she always looks funny. But she still keeps the expression. What I didn't like about the performance, that no one has yet mentioned, is that she cut out the "You teach me....off track with you" again. I've always thought those were some of the most important lyrics to understanding the song. But they don't have much to do with Batman, hence, cut em out. Ho hum. As for the award show itself, how could you guys think it's that awful? Aw, perhaps you just don't like Mike Myers and his famous sh-words: Shprockets, and schwing!, and shag, baby yeah. If I didn't hate awards shows in general and wasn't so tired, I would've kept watching after Jewel sang just for Mike Myers. But, of course, I allow differences of opinion, so I won't hold it against you guys (hee, hee). (Critiques welcome, but be gentle if you please) Third-to-Last We stood outside a noisy restaurant with a crowd of well wishers around you And as they gave you hugs and goodbyes and I'll miss you's I saved myself for last hoping to be the best And you looked around the circle and asked Who's left? But you knew And you enfolded me not with arms but with warmth And your fingers were on my back and my nose was at your neck gathering one last essence of you-- the scent of clean skin and a smile And it was that embrace, not the last-- just a flash of arms as we stood in your mother's doorway-- or the second-to-last-- all friendship that I fled in tears and a car-- but the third-to-last, the one we thought was last, that lingers. I Well, we normally end up talking about her not knowing what to do w/ her hands when she performs w/ out a guitar, so I guess I expected this. This time though, I don't think that she was playing around too much w/ her hands. She mostly just kept them clasped or by her sides, and she moved them a little bit. It wasn't distracting at all. I mean, it's very, VERY rare that a video from a soundtrack doesn't have clips from the movie. And since the article said that Joel Schumacher will also be working with one of the best video directors out there, I don't think we have too much to worry about. The scenes from the movie will probably be mostly the romantic looking scenes and such because of the style of the song. I don't think the directors will put in a whole bunch of scenes that really don't fit. There will be a couple most likely, but not enough to really ruin the video. And... until the video comes out, everyone can expect MTV to show Jewel's performance as a video pretty frequently. *hugs* Emily ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Jun 1997 21:08:22 EDT From: chandraj@juno.com (Chandra J Claycamp) Subject: NJC:Detroit/Ann Arbor Angels Hey Angels... Well, Jewel used to sing with her dad when she was a little kid, and she didn't learn the guitar until she was 17, meaning that she has performed guitar-less many times before. But when she sang, it was mostly for harmony, and now she has to sing guitar-less by herself. I think that Jewel w/o a guitar on FG is appropriate. I just hope that when she does sing her future songs that usually require her guitar, that *she* is the one that plays it, and not somebody else. Mark - --- Inside my heart there's an empty room. Well Derrick about 2 years ago I sent her a letter to that address and have yet to receive a response. In the FAQ it says that Jewel does receive mail but rarely responds (perhaps if I would have been and EDA back then it would have helped). If I sent a letter back then when her popularity wasn't as prevelant and didn't recieve a response, think of the odds now. The two WIngs are Vladdy Konstantinov and Slava Fetisov. Slava bruised his chest and hurt his lungs. Unfortunately Vladdy has serious head injuries and is currently on a respirator. Any prayers would be greatly appreciated. Boy can things change in less than a week. Makes one think. After all, doesn't the movie also focus on their relationship? Or, it could also have Poison Ivy and the little love triangle she brings to the movie, with Batman and Robin. Either way, I hope it focuses on love and not just "Batman and Robin". Like the Smashing Pumpkins video.
