I know Circuit City carries them ($9.99, I saw it in my area Circuit City yesterday) and I think Tower records does. I'm quite sure other chains may still carry it too and the UK YWMFM CD single (with "Cold Song" and "Rocker Girl"). Of course I don't know if you live in the sticks or not, but if you are in anywhere near a decent sized city, you should be able to get it. You can likely order it. It's a wonderful cause, & it wouldn't hurt to have a spare copy! ;-) Alan (MrBB) Heres instructions if you'd like to place an order: 70% of total EDA List sales of these booklets will be donated to the JPK Fund on behalf of Jewel & The EDA Foundation. :-) For more JPK Fund info go to: http://www.endor.org/jpk/ If you are Canadian, please contact: Gerry Lipnowski at: glipnows@qc.bell.ca If you are outside North America, please contact Terrence Williams at: thespis@thespis.com If you live in the USA or simply want to know more, read on: Hi to all USA EDAs that would like to aquire Jewel's "Tiny Lights Tour '97" booklets that were sold during Jewel's recent tour. These booklets contain poetry, writing, vintage & recent photos as well as info about the tour itself. They are 14 pages in length including front & back cover. They were designed by Jewel's assistant & close friend BiBi Bielat. Here's the instructions. Please follow them EXACTLY in order for this to be as easy as possible for us. Cost of the booklets are $10 in American dollars. (same as at the shows) All booklets will be sent 1st class unless you want & pay for Priority mail. All you need to do is send me a standard size manilla envelope (9.5" x 13") that is self adressed & with at least $1.50 in stamps already on it. (Note: DO NOT use postal meter postage! Only stamps. Add an extra 32 cent stamp for each extra booklet ordered up to 5 booklets.) Include $10 cash (NO CHECKS) or money order for each booklet ordered. We will simply put however many booklets you paid for in the envelope & send it back to you. Its that easy. If you want the booklets faster, you can send a Priority mailer with a $3 stamp on it instead of a manilla envelope with $1.50 on it. If you want more than 5 of them, please use a Priority mailer--I can fit up to ten of them in there. Send your self adressed pre-postaged 9.5" x 13" manilla envelope, with $10 cash (or a $10 money order made out to Alan Bershaw) for each booklet ordered to: Jewel Tour Book c/o MrBB P.O. Box 8147 Berlin,CT 06037-8147 Note: If you prefer to send a money order, thats OK. Just make sure its made out to me. (Do not make it out to Jewel or anyone else!). I will be sending Lenedra a bank check for all booklets ordered & if I cannot personally cash your money order, then I cannot send the booklet & must return your order. There's less than 55 left presently. I'll keep the list posted if it looks like they'll sell out to prevent having to return any requests. Remember, Amyjo & I volunteered to do this because so many EDAs requested it. Follow the simple instructions. I know this will be painless if you do. :-) Thanks! Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hello everyone This isn't a chain letter, but a choice for all of us to save a little girl that's dying of a serious and fatal form of cancer. Please send this to everyone you know. This little girl has 6 months left to live her life, and as her dying wish, she wanted to send a chain letter telling everyone to live their life to fullest, since she never will. She'll never make it to prom, graduate from high school, or get married and have a family of her own. By you sending this to as many people as possible, you can give her and her family a little hope, because with every name that this is sent to, the american cancer society will donate 3 cents per name to her treatment and recovery plan. One man sent this to 500 people !!!! So, I know that each of us can find it in our hearts to send it to at least 5 or 6. If you can't take 10-15 minutes scrolling this and forwarding it to EVERYONE, than you're one SELFISH bastard. It may be you lying in that hospital bed one day, dying of cancer. Wouldn't you want kind human beings doing the same for you? It's not even your money, just your time. Please take a few minutes and help out this young girl. She's counting on you. Peace and Thanks, Sarah "X" "No natural boundary seems to be set to the efforts of man; and in his eyes what is not yet done is only what he has not yet attempted to do." What a week it was! We have lots to tell but before we get into all the details, we want to thank all the EDA's who helped to make it possible, starting with Peter Jones, who was the EDA who posted the original message about the cheap airfares on Continental ($375 roundtrip to Dusseldorf), which gave us the inspiration to go. Thanks also to all the other EDA's who encouraged us to "go for it" when family and friends thought we were nuts to be flying all the way to Germany to see Jewel, when we'd just her seen her a month earlier in Chicago. Thanks to Barry Wright, who inspired me to be bold in your dreams and live a life of adventure, by flying to Amsterdam to see Bruce Cockburn a few months ago. Special thanks to Aaron Cooper, who travelled to Cologne a week before the concert and reported back with detailed information and instructions. Huge thanks to Alan (Mr.BB), Dennis Harris, Adrian, Larry G., Paul Andreassen (the Norwegian Angel), who must have earned some mighty good karma somewhere along the line, Marian Veselcic (the first German EDA), who helped us in countless ways (as you'll see as the story progresses), Mike Connell (who relayed vital information from Bibi at a critical moment amd most of all thanks to Jewel and Nedra simply for being who they are, true Angels! {\o/} {\o/} /_\ /_\ The past week was the most wonderful week of our lives. We learned a lot about life and friendship. The whole experience showed us how interconnected we all are and how we can achieve great things when we work together with the courage to follow our dreams. When I (Kris) first saw the message on the list about the cheap air fares to Dusseldorf, which is just a half hour from Cologne, where Jewel would be performing on her birthday, a lightbulb flash of inspiration exploded in my brain. Ever since hearing the "Inner Change Days" tapes, Shana and I had wished that we could see Jewel perform in an intimate setting, like she did in the coffee house days. Seeing her on this European tour might just be such an opportunity and seeing her on her birthday would be a perfect time. Plus, I was helping Mandy with the EDA guitar pick idea so maybe the picks would be done in time to deliver on Jewel's birthday. Also, Shana has an aunt, Sarah Mars, in Berlin, who is a lead singer in a punk rock band/painter/performance artist/art gallery manager, so we could finally visit her too! It all seemed to fit perfectly so I rushed to the travel agent to buy the airline tickets before they were all gone. That was the easy part. Pay your money and you have your tickets. Now came the tricky part. Shana is in 5th grade so she'd have to miss some school. I hadn't asked her grandmother yet for permission for her to go, plus Shana didn't have a passport. On top of that, shortly after buying the tickets, I read a message on the list that the concerts in Germany (Cologne, Berlin and Hamburg) were Artist Showcases, only for music industry people and that tickets were *not* available for the general public. Bummer! I'd already laid out the money for non-refundable tickets. This was starting to look bad. Real bad! I remembered a saying, "Perseverance furthers", from the I-Ching, an ancient Chinese book of wisdom and was determined to turn a possible disaster into success. Here's where we learned a lot about friends, family and friendship with people around the world who we'd never met, but who we were connected with by virtue of this wonderful internet enabled family. As Larry G. AKA L. Greenfield AKA Loveable Larry the L.A. lawyer AKA Larry the kookybaka poster designer is often quoted as saying: "We started out as fans of Jewel and ended up as fans of each other". I figured that the chances of Shana getting permission to go would be greater if we used the trip as an opportunity for a school report. I was a photo journalist for 15 years and Shana is demonstrating a talent for photography so I told Shana's grandmother, Barbara, that I could use the trip as a way to teach Shana how to approach a photojournalism assignment. Barbara, an angel in her own right, quickly gave permission to go and agreed to get Shana's passport. We contacted Sarah in Berlin, who called the Wartesaal Club in Cologne and discovered that, even though the concert was an Artist Showcase, there was a chance that we might be able to get tickets on the day of the concert. Hmmmmmmmmm ... chancy but at least a ray of hope was dawning! As the days counted down to our departure, it was a real rollercoaster ride! One day we'd hear that there was no way to get in to the concert and then we'd get a message from someone else saying that there *was* a chance. There will always be people who will tell you that you can't realize your dreams but we just kept our sights on the goal and trusted that we'd get to see Jewel in Germany. About a week before our trip, I received a message from Peter Jones: >Dear Kris >I just got back from Koln (Cologne), where I did some >tracking down of information on Jewel's upcoming 23 May show. >I will be away from my computer starting again tomorrow, >but did want to pass along the vital information. What followed was detailed information on the location of the club and travelling instructions. It really meant a lot to us to feel such support from another EDA. Then we got a message from Marian (the first German EDA) saying: >Hi Kris >Sorry to write so late but I hope you get >the message before you leave. >About the train, well i've never been in Dusseldorf >or Cologne by train but usually it is no problem to >catch one ( they are running til 1 am). >If I can get tickets for you I'LL leave a >message for you but I heard that there are >no reservations and you can only get tickets >that night at the door. >See you at the 23rd! During the last few days before our departure, Adrian sent out a message to the list saying: >Since Kris Kane is going to be in Cologne on Jewel's birthday, >carrying with him in spirit the dreams and wishes of EDAs, >there must be some way that he can be allowed into the concert -- >even if it's closed to the public. (Does that mean it's just a >record industry event or what?) On Jewel's birthday I'm sure >she'd appreciate an angel or two in the audience. What about >using contacting other EDAs in Germany (is Peter going?) or >Lenedra or even Atlantic Records? At this point, there was no turning back. I prepared Shana for the worst, telling her that there was a chance that we might not get in to the concert and asked her if she still wanted to go. Anyone want to guess what her answer was? "Let's go for it!!!" We were committed to going. I went out and bought my first new Nikon system in 20 years and we packed our bags, knowing we'd have a great time regardless of what happened. Then, literally an hour before leaving for the airport, I checked my email one last time and discovered the best news of all from Paul in Norway: >Kris! >Have I got news for you!!! >I talked to Lenedra, and you, yes YOU, are on the >guest list for the show. Bring your camera, give your >name at the door, contact Lenedra, and you'll figure >something out about filming the birthday present thingy. WOW!!! I couldn't believe it! Here was an EDA in Norway who I'd never met, speaking to Jewel and Nedra at the airport in Oslo, telling them about our trip and getting permission for us to attend the show in Cologne. I thanked the Great Spirit and called Shana to tell her the good news. We jumped in a cab and headed to the airport with smiles on our faces :-) :-) and hearts full of love and inspiration. ********************************************************************** Coming next: "Kris and Shana's Great European Adventure (Part II - the Cologne Rollercoaster) in which we meet Marian Veselcic, the first German EDA.
