Her stage name is Oh Susanna, and I saw her in concert on Sunday, and found it an exhilarating experience (even though the songs are quite dark). The best comparison I could make would be to Gillian Welch. Oh Susanna (whose real name is Suzie Ungerleider) has that same kind of dustbowl, crackly voice, and plays stark, beautiful songs in the Woody Guthrie, early Bob Dylan style, albeit a little blusier. The group "attitude" of this list is not unlike a see-saw -- but at least the moods go up and down fairly predictably! Someone posts a vicious, ignorant comment, followed by upset folks refuting it... then a flame war ensues. Then a string of incredibly positive events will occur (ie, Hot Dog Fest, Great EDAdventure, acts of charity) to create a euphoria that lasts about a week. The sun shines, the rainbow comes out and we once again appreciate the unique nature of this list and its members. Unfortunately, the rats soon return to squat and sh*t on everything again, repeating the cycle. The methods used by the rats are very UNcreative, usually relying on homophobia, childish insults and senseless hate-filled posts that seldom exceed one or two sentences (brevity is their only virtue). It would be funny if it weren't so pitiful. That's what often screws us as a society -- we all suffer for the stupid actions of a few miserable people who say to hell with everyone else while they fulfill their own selfish agenda. Life is a circle, angels, and we all have a responsibility to each other. Life is also too short to waste it spreading conflict and discontent to "get off". Thanks for the listen. Alright my relationship with my boyfriend has been going on for 2 monthes somewhat after our 1 month anniversary we got in a fight and i wanted to break up. He drove the 2 hours from the jershey shore up to my house in central jersey to talk with me. We resolved everything and got back together. Many problems had arisen.. both inside me and externally between us and other people. There were 2 girls, let's call them B. and M.T. They want to kill me - honest to God. Well, my boyfriend happens to be friends with them. In an attempt to prove to them that he doesn't like me, he drove them 2 hours up to my house to pick a fight. I saw him the next day - all the things were solved and he promised it was over and it wouldn't happen again (the fight din't happen.. they just left..) Anyway things were fine... this weekend we all had plans but his grandma died... and stuff and i think that he and his best friend april (who is the only other person besides you all that know were going out (i'll get to that in a bit) and lives with him, too) had set me up or something because i talked to him today and he said "I'm hanging out with them today" and i asked "your'e not driving the 2 hours to pick her (b.) up are you?" (she lives like 10 minutes from me) he said "no we're all hanging out down here in t.r." - i was fine with that then i went to the store.. my cousin's house.. came home and my little brother tells me "those two girls were here and ben drove them" and i was like "That fucking liar!" now i don't know what to do. If me and him break up so much is going to crash - i won't be able to go to the jewel concert i'm dying to go to - i won't be able to get the beach house he's renting to my family for free - i'll miss out on hanging out on weekends and i'll become a total loser! that's very greedy, I know that.. but he got my hopes up with most of that. I want a boyfriend that drives, can pay for the phone bill.. i can see like once a week - and will be proud to say i'm his girlfriend! it's just not happening with my bf - he's 21 and i'm almost 15! it's not going to work out unelss we want it to (and i want it to.. i really do) But i don't know what's up with him.. and it's breaking my heart... I can't believe any of this.. he lied to me.. he lied to me... not only that but april - who got in a fight with him the other day - told me all about this.. and i refused to believe her. The first requisite is the ability to supply on demand a document from a licensed psychiatrist that you are certifiable ;) Seriously, like I said anyone can tree a tape. However, it takes good planning, a decent Email program, a quality recording that the EDAs will generally want, a lot of mental stamina, patience & the ability to deal with many frustrations and a good 15 to 30 other EDAs to volunteer to serve as branches if it becomes a popular tape. (Two of the last three Jewel trees had well over 300 leaves each and the lists three versions are now 50% larger than when the last tree was run in January - February) However, since the authorized (by Jewel management) tape trees began about a year ago, one "regular" tape tree was done. There was also the EDA Cover Tape tree and a Patty Griffin tree. I myself ran two of the last three Jewel trees on the list (both authorized) and am likely doing the "Future Folklore" tree that was mentioned on the list last week. If so, I'll post to the list all necessary details everyone will need on how to partake in this tree when it becomes a reality. Also, all of the tape trees run in the past are now closed, and the way to get copies of *those* tapes are the way you've been seeing....posting and asking OR making some friends on the list and getting them through them, which is the preferred way :) Anyone with further questions, please feel free to Email me privately. You've probably all read the stories of the NJ EDA gathering by now. But how many of you know the other great adventure had by two particular EDAs that weekend? It all started around 9:00 PM on Sunday night... Dennis Harris and I had just left the home of Rob & Tammy, on our way north for the 5 hour drive back to Massachusettes. We cruised along to the Garden State Parkway, and on to the NJ Turnpike discussing all the things that had occured over the past two days. We were enjoying ourselves when, suddenly, swarms of automobiles zoomed up previously unseen on-ramps, and clogged the highway with traffic. We patiently waited for almost an hour and a half just to go 25 feet! (Well, more like 2 and half miles.) We determined that construction was the source of the jam, but it mysteriously disappeared seconds after we cleared it. Very suspicious. It was now around 11:30 and we needed gas, so we pulled into a rest stop. We used the facilities, then bought some snacks for the road. As we were getting gas, Dennis asked the attendent to check the oil in his car. The man fumbled around a bit, then said he could not find it. Dennis and I glanced at each other. Could this man be trying to keep us from getting oil? What motives could he have? Quickly, Dennis jumped into action. With one smooth motion, he removed the dipstick and wiped it clean. Then, deftly, he placed it back in, and removed it again, only this time checking the level of oil. Strangely, the level was fine. Was this man a member of an anti-EDA group, or just a simple gas station attendent lost in the darkness of the New Jersey night? There was no way to tell. We pulled out of the rest area around midnight, and headed towards NYC and home. The ride to the George Washington Bridge was a smooth one, and we began to relax a bit. Therein lay our worst mistake! To all, The place Igor chose for the EDA gathering could not have been a better one. I used to live in Lompoc, Ca which is about , I'm guessing, 30 minutes away from the selected sight. Anyway, it's a very peaceful quiet town that is away from all the brutalities of the big cities. Hope to you see you there.
