Subject: NJC:  Gypsy Wind

Here's my little story of my day... I hopped on down to Borders
Books/Music/Cafe seeing as how we have no air conditioner in my house
and it was probablyl the coolest place i know of... Well, I walk in and
hear the distant sounds of 2 acoustic guitars and 2 female voices.  It
was a duo called "Gypsy Wind", i ended up sitting there for a while
listening to their set... they write most of their own songs <few alanis
and cranberries covers etc.> and it's just them and 2 guitars... <the
also mentioned that they sometimes have a violinist... Let me just say
these two women have beautiful voices and write very beautiful music...
They're from Iowa originally.I ended up buying their CD which
was released in 1993 but one of them told me that they were working on a
new one for release this year, and their touring the country like
mad-women... <heading off to the midwest next>...

I definitely recommend them to all EDAS, if you hear that they're
playing at your local coffee house try and get down their and check them
out...  Also, here is the information on their web site <they have a
mailing list too!> and other stuff...

Subject: NJC? Emmylou Harris' Wrecking Ball

I see Kris has mentioned Emmylou Harris (who's one of the many great
artists lined up for Lilith Fair).  While I have several of her earlier,
purer country recordings, I'd recommend her recent CD Wrecking Ball to
anyone who likes good music of any kind.  It's produced by Daniel Lanois
(who's produced U2's Joshua Tree, Luscious Jackson and Bob Dylan among
others) and it's really a beautiful, haunting, recording with songs by
Emmylou, Neil Young and more...

Subject: NJC  Tara MacLean at Vancouver's Railway Club?

Chris has kindly posted Tara MacLean's upcoming dates for Jewel fans who
are interested to hear another fine singer.  I just read in a local
newspaper that she'll be playing at the Railway Club in Vancouver "at the
end of May."  On Chris' list it says she has two open days in Vancouver  --
 May 30 and May 31.  Is one of these (or both) nights going to be when she
plays the Railway (which is a cool, intimate, club)?  I'm wondering if I
should be thinking about catching the boat to the mainland to go see her
show  --  if she IS playing the Railway and I can find out when...
