Definitely the Morning Song... my girlfriend and I exemplify this song. We're always sleeping in on the weekends and it takes A LOT to get us out of bed. (I'm listening to this song even as I type...) I also like Colour of My Love by Celine Dion. But "Our" song is 'Somewhere Out There' by Linda Ronstadt and some other guy (whoops!) Laters all. Maybe I will. If anyone has transferred to different colleges and can help me make my decision between staying at the Berg or transferring the the E.W. Scripps school of journalism at Ohio University, please send it my way because this is a really hard decision for me. Second, even though I'm going home tomorrow, my account is still active so email wise everything will be as usual. (although IRC people can expect any daytime visits to cease :) ) Finally, I haven't posted on this yet, but this weekend I was once again given the privilege of spending time with my fellow EDAs. After a near accident in my van (Toledo drivers...) I arrived within seconds of Dan pulling up to Liz's. The trip met contact after a fill up of food for myself & Dan, and we shortly arrived at Greg's. After listening to some mandatory CDs, we switched on the radio to see what was floatin' on the amber waves of grain. All I can say is that the stations themselves say that Indiana radio sucks. We heartily agreed after hearing.. (band name deleted for sake of preventing another flame war)'s new single for the 23rd time. We arrived at Greg's and found him in high spirits after another great Chuck Marten show. Toni arrived soon after (Yay! I finally got to meet her) and long conversations about all kinds of topics followed... morning came shortly. We woke not to the sound of a fist on Greg's doorbell, but to doughnuts.. the size of Trinidad and Tobago. In that order. Dan and Greg quickly began a weekend of digital sonic duplication, while members of the band trickled in and introduced themselves. Toni and Rusty fixed a wonderful batch of chili, and more equipment and people arrived. As it grew closer to show time, a minor mic repair was in order for Dan. So, we sojourned upstairs for my first lesson in soldering. I'm not looking forward to doing it myself any time soon. :) The Chuck Marten set was fantastic. These kids have some energy, lemme tell ya. I am amazed stuff wasn't falling off the walls- not because of the noise but because of the jumping! We're gonna mosh! Unfortunately after Chuck finished their very-pleasing set some other band came on who just wasn't... any good. Eventually setups were made for an acoustic set by various members of Chuck in combinations... some very beautiful and touching songs especially from Toni, who has one of the most expressive communication and singing techniques I've heard in a long time. I won't go into the night. We all had a lot of fun, basically. I LOVE hanging out with people you've just met at a gathering. Especially people from vastly different backgrounds than myself. Overall, an enjoyable night. The next day took us on a shopping trip to Broad Ripple (what a name) and a meal at a very exquisite little pizza place, where of course I had a submarine sandwich (someone has to be different!)... We came back to Greg's and took numerous pictures of each other in compromising positions.. just kidding! Well, for Greg any position is compromising. :) The trip home was marked by me writing work for a final exam... only my sloppy handwriting can make the fact that I was in a car driven by DAN STARK unapparent. I heartily enjoyed the weekend... only too unfortunate so many couldn't make it. Well, we will have another ChuckStock, and I expect ALL OF YOU to make it. Greg, you have room for 1,000 or so, right? I mean.. at least the basement will be done by then. This message is especially for all NE area EDAs. If you can possibly make it, come to Tower records on May 15th and get your EDAdventure started early. Here's the info straight from Tara's management. Tara MacLean in-store at Tower Records in Boston Posted: Tuesday, May 06, 1997, 15:48 Tara MacLean will be in Boston, MA on May 15th to take part in a in-store appearance at Tower Records as part of the retail outlets Cram 'n' Jam presentation. The in-store/sale runs from 9 pm to 12 pm, and there will be two other artists performing that evening besides Tara: First up will be Todd Tibeault, a local fave currently getting a lot of airplay and attention in Boston. His sound is acoustic pop, and is a perfect intro for Tara, with whom he has played before. Todd is apparently very happy to be sharing the same stage with Tara again. Second up will be Nettwerk's own Tara MacLean, performing songs from her debut CD Silence. Third up on stage will be Machinery Hall, which is a heavier alternative local band with a huge following. So check it out and cheer Tara on in Boston! If you can POSSIBLY make it COME. Tara is in her early stages and is still very accessible. She is one of the kindest sweetest people I have met. She really stays interested in what your talking about. I have had the oppurtunity of meeting her twice. First at Earthday in Boston, and the second time was this past Sunday in Harvard Sq. Cambridge. Even though I had only talked to her for about 3 minutes before. Tara immediately came over and started talking to me in Harvard Sq. She seems very interested in the EDAs. She probably realizes how excited we get about new music. So if you can please make it. We need to show Tower that Tara has fan support. And it will give you something to smile about as you drive/fly/train down to Tammy & Rob's. Hey if nothing else we can get to Rob & Tammy's doorstep by the crack of dawn (just kidding :-). Hope to see you there. Talk to you soon. Chris Snyder ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 May 1997 04:04:23 -0400 (EDT) From: Harrisbros@aol.com Subject: NJC: The Harris Blues... Okay guys, here's my song dedication, not necessarily for a lover, but for anyone you love: "Life By the Drop" by Stevie Ray Vaughan! "Up and down the road in our worn out shoes Talkin' 'bout good thangs, singin' th' blues You went your way, I stayed behind We both knew it was justa matter of time..." It certainly chronicles his battle with (and triumph over) chemical addition, but it also illustrates the fact of life that we all move along at our own pace, and sometimes have to wait for another soul to catch up or get in sync with us... (and sometimes it's us who need to do the catching up) The line "God it's good to be here walkin' together my friend" toward the end never fails to bring back a flood of friends' faces that I miss not. The song is depressing and uplifting at the same time. For a more conventional "lover's dedication", how about SRV's "Pride and Joy" ? Why the preoccupation with this artist? Well, I'm flying to Austin today and that's Stevie Ray Vaughan country, angels! - -- Dennis Harris ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 May 1997 04:05:23 -0400 (EDT) From: Harrisbros@aol.com Subject: NJC: Blood donation update! Alright! We just had the first six EDA blood donors joined by another FIVE donors, giving us ELEVEN PINTS so far! That's an 84% improvement in just four short days. I also had one EDA email me with details on several things she does in her community to help others...that's great! We need more volunteers and blood donors, so take the plunge and give of yourself to others! For those of you who missed the post (and re-post), here's the gist of what we are doing: To honor Jewel on her birthday, and to get EDAs involved in helping out in their communities, we are running a BLOOD DRIVE this month! At the end of the month, a card will be forwarded to Jewel with all participants names and locations (and their pictures worked into the card design if they want)! In addition, we'll include other EDAs who do other community service work this month... Ahh, WHAT THE HECK, HERE'S THE ORIGINAL POST: ************* There have been many excellent suggestions as what to do for Jewel's upcoming birthday. Guitar picks, original poetry, donations -- all great ideas, but as Mike Connell posted earlier, Jewel routinely requests that gifts NOT be given to her, but for her angels instead to help one another - -- and others -- in typical EDA fashion. While these other cool projects are also underway, there are two that seem to fulfill Jewel's wishes: list support for the JPK fund-raiser and "Project Blood Drive". You know, a large part of being an EDA is not only talking the talk, but "walking the walk". We support each other, and enjoy each other's company immensely (if you haven't yet, you will one day!). Being an EveryDay Angel also means helping your fellow human beings, in every way possible. And while some of us may not have the finances to support a donation program, we all have something that is precious to over three million folks in the United States every year -- blood plasma. What could be more personal and giving of one's self than donating blood so that others may live? Talk about the ultimate in giving yourself to others! You actually become part of another human being. Think about that concept for a minute... And on the practical side, it certainly fits the suggestion that we should find something that anyone can participate in (and afford)! ;-) So, here's an EDA challenge for the entire list: Donate a unit of blood to your local blood bank between now and Jewel's birthday (May 23rd), and watch your aura glow two full levels brighter (guaranteed or your blood back in a cup)! Then forward me your name and location, and if you want, your photo. I'll add donors names and photos to a very special birthday card for Jewel and see that she personally gets it upon her return from Europe. I imagine this will simply again confirm what she already knows about her EDAs: we are indeed SPECIAL SOULS WHO GET THE POINT OF HER MESSAGE! :-) Every three seconds someone needs blood. Approximately 40,000 units (pints) of blood are required each and every day in the United States. Your donation gives an opportunity for survival to accident, burn and cancer patients. Now this might be a total stranger you save. It might be a friend, family member or another EDA. It might even be yourself! Annually, over 12 million units of blood are donated to benefit over 3.6 million patients. And certain types of blood supplies routinely run dangerously low. Frozen plasma lasts a year. Refrigerated blood has a shelf life of 42 days. Some blood components last only a week. You can routinely safely donate a pint of whole blood every eight weeks. But you've got to donate that first pint to get started! And you'd be surprised at how good it feels, knowing that you're unselfishly making a difference. I mistakenly thought for a long time that a blood sugar condition prevented me from giving blood, until I discovered it was only the lead in my *ss that prevented me from giving blood! ;-) Now, I've met over 300 of ya'll face to face over the past year, and I expect to hear from all of you. For the 600 I have yet to meet, I'd love to add your names to this project. Let's do it! It's the most personal donation anyone can make. And here's the Harris tip of the day: if you're smart, you can get free cookies, orange juice and a sandwich as well from the blood bank (which saves on your food bill)...which enables you to save up for the next EDA gathering, making you happier, healthier and wise(r)...which creates MORE blood to donate...which...well, you get the picture! - -- Dennis Harris, keeper of the blood scrolls of generosity... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 May 1997 04:08:23 -0400 (EDT) From: Harrisbros@aol.com Subject: NJC: Shoot an Angel at the Great EDAdventure! Before Fish and Family got to Hot Dog Fest, they had their car broken into and with it all the memories of a great time they had with their kids. Even with the loss they suffered, they still found a place in their hearts to donate to this good cause. I got to meet Fish and Family at LizStock. They had their beautiful two kids with them. It was a joy and pleasure watching these two toddlers walking around with their own EDA posters asking each of us to sign them. The prize that Fish is offering could be split into two prizes. A stay with such wonderful people wouldn't just be a prize but a gift in it's self. Even if the winner has to travel, take Fish up on the stay as well. You will be glad you did. Now stop reading your mail for a while and send me your pledge for the raffle. Now you have another reason to do so. But remember why we really are doing this. All the rest is just a bonus. Don't worry about how much you are donating. Any amount is better than none. But the larger the check, the more chances of winning and the quicker James gets to meet his goal. Do you wanna be free, Are you ready for me To feel this way? (my alltime three favorite lines) I don't wanna lose ya. So it may be too soon I know. The feelin takes so long to grow If I tell you today Will you turn me away And let me go?
