They're 8X10 B/W photos. I'd like them to go to other EDA's so here's what I'm going to do. Anyone that would like one needs to pick a number between 1 and 1200. This Wednesday (2:00pm) I'll take all the entries and the two people who are the closest to the right number will win the photos! They will cost $12 which includes shipping (my cost), so if you know you don't have $12, then please don't enter the contest. The "right" number will be determined by a random number generator program I've written and I won't even know what it is until next Wed. It's ok to go over the correct number...it's whoever is closest...over OR under the right number. I think this is the only "fair" way of holding a contest. Based upon feedback I've received in the past, this method seemed to please the most people. So although it may seem primitive, and not very original or exciting, it IS fair, and that's what's important. Good luck to everyone! :) Derrick * In the subject line of your letters, please put "Jewel Promo Contest"....thanks! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 May 1997 19:20:26 -0400 (EDT) From: BurnBlk@aol.com Subject: please pray for my grandpa dear angels, my grandpa skiba had tests done and he most likely has cancer. the doctors are going to do 1 more test thing then they will know for sure. please pray for my grandpa, walter skiba , tonight. with love, wendy ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 May 1997 19:22:22 -0400 (EDT) From: LtjgMacC@aol.com Subject: Re: Detroit??? This song is special for me because at the tender age of 12 I stood up at my school talent show and tried to perform this song I loved so much. Of course I hadn't realised I would get stage fright, that they would have to turn up the microphone part way through just to hear me over the tape (yes I was just singing along to the tape!) and that when it got to the instrumental part I just stood there not knowing what to do so they turned the tape off. I had imagined the whole thing would be so much better than it was and it took me a long time to live down the shame. My songs dedicated to the one I love would have to be: 1. "1,000 Miles Away" (guess who) because the one I love is in NY and I'm in Miami :( He's been gone almost two weeks and I'm still in withdrawl. 2. "Don't Speak" (No Doubt) because of the opening lines "You and me, we used to be together. Everyday together. Always. I really feel like I'm losing my best friend." The day he left I was at the gym sweating, this song came on, and I heard that part and I started to bawl. I don't recommend sweating and crying at the same time or your skin will become just one massive layer of salt. 3. "Amanda" by Boston but minus the chorus that has the name Amanda in it. The rest of the song though is perfect for friends who are afraid to love each other: Babe, tomorrow's so far away There's something I just have say I don't think I could hide What I'm feeling inside Another day, knowing I love you And I, I'm getting too close again I don't wanna see it end. If I tell you tonight Will you turn out the lights And walk away Knowing I love you (chorus--the Amanda part which isn't necessary to my point) And I feel like today's the day I'm looking for the words to say. Do you wanna be free, Are you ready for me To feel this way? (my alltime three favorite lines) I don't wanna lose ya. So it may be too soon I know. The feelin takes so long to grow If I tell you today Will you turn me away And let me go? I don't wanna lose ya * * * And, feeling the way I do, I don't wanna wait my whole life through To say I'm in love with you. Sigh. Okay, girls, doncha really wish your name was Amanda? Oh, and the person who said the Mariah Carey version of Open Arms: I really respect Mariah Carey's vocal range though I don't particularly care for her music, and I feel that covering songs can often be a good and interesting thing, but please NOT Journey. Journey, Boston, Pink Floyd, and Jewel will forever have a place in my CD player. They are my ENDURING favorites. Just thinking about either of the extreme octaves being associated with Open Arms seems a sacriledge. Just my opinion though :) Jules ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 May 1997 20:18:44 -0400 (EDT) From: Hersheys98@aol.com Subject: NJC: EDA posters Hi guys. Would be crashers should be at the venue before the 7:15-7:30pm door closing. I don't think it will do much good as I was told security for this thing will be tight. However, for what it is worth, when I picked up my tickets today at the station the promotions lady gave me the impression that only 5 others had come to get theirs. Of course, most will pick them up tomorrow, but with the tight door deadline, there could be some no-shows. I would imagine MTV would not have empty seats -- so maybe being at the right place at the right time ... Other tidbits... They tape two artists at a time, and you HAVE to sit through both, so to hear our lovely Jewel, we have to sit through a taping of Maxwell. I don't know much about the act, but if Jewel is on first watch Rob and Tammy make a break for the door. The taping lasts three hours and I guess it will begin shortly after 7:30pm. Here's what we are told about dress -- no business suits, no white and no logos. For some strange reason they won't allow me to bring a DAT recorder to plug into the board. Fascist corporate pigs! : ) However, I am thinking of sneaking a recorder in Tammy's bag. If she gets caught and thrown out, oh well, I'll still get to see the show :-) (j/k) I am not sure if anyone knows how many people attend the taping -- it would be interesting to know. We are sitting in the 5th row on the right side of the stage. I am sure other 92.3 winners will be in the same area. That's just an intro to a funny little story. Casey (of Danke fame) was so kind to send me angelfood (everyone has to be nice to Casey now. There was a little mishap with the tape and he is going to do it again, so everyone has to be really, really nice to Casey for me.) So I said to my mother, who doesn't see why I talk to you guys so much, "See, they even sent me tapes". "Great, you gave out our address. They could be murderers. You don't know. There's been cases where people on the internet go crazy and kill the person they were talking to. You roll your eyes, but you don't know the state of the world these days. If you're going to do that, get a P.O. Box that way it's safer. When you move to Washington, you are NOT to give out your address." Anyway, so if any of you are murderers or anything, please don't come to my door cause I really don't want to hear my mother's "I told you so." BTW, my mother is usually pretty cool. I know if I'm feeling a bit weepy, the thought of the this song becoming relevant to my life can just push me over. So it's less of a 'dedication to the one I love and am with" and more of a 'dedication to the one I love and wish I was with' song. I know MTV has to do all that editing stuff but it really shouldn't take too long. Also, according to the latest Entertainment Weekly, Jewel is definitely in the Batman and Robin soundtrack. They just briefly mentioned her as an artist. Like I said before, it doesn't really matter what position she is--we all like her for what she is, what she does, and what she stands for. Not for her ratings. BUUUT, if you bored and just want to vote just for the heck of it, feel free. =) Mark - --- Inside my heart there's an empty room. We may talk about other things, like the Spice Girls, religion, etc., but that never lasts. They eventually fade away. But we'll always have Jewel in mind. That will never go away. I, personally, like the other topics discussed here. But, I do agree with Rolly that some of it could be kept private. Mark - --- Inside my heart there's an empty room. But the story I saw was of an anal i have to agree with you, Julie. i find it rather depressing in a bittersweet way. Basically, the person in the song is obsessed with someone who doesn't want her. Another one i find weird is Near You Always. i LOVE that song. i think its the best cut on the album, but its depressing as a love song. Think: Your hands are in my hair but my heart is in your teeth. This says, to me, you're touching me, you're having a good time, but this means my heart is beared to you and you don't even care. I just took it as meaning, you don't realize just how deeply you are affecting me, how deeply you touch me, or how deep my feelings run for you. I never thought the man didn't care (though now I do see how it could be that way), I just thought he didn't know how incredibly much this girl felt for him, and she was trying to make him understand. I always thought she was just trying really hard not to fall in love because in the past her heart had been broken. Just my two wooden nickels. Bless and Be Blessed; spread the Love! Do you know how long those words were the only words that kept me alive for 2 months?? "dreams last so long even after you're gone.. I know you love me and soon you will see... you were meant for me, and I was meant for you.." The other song that described me completely for those 2 months is Don't Speak: "You and me, I can feel us dying... are we?" and "It looks as though you're letting go, but if it's real than I don't want to know..." (I was in a very deep river of Denial for a long time. as Mike said, "can we spell Denile?" (he can't) ) and of course, Champagne Supernova is the song that means love and loss and pain and lust and JEALOUSY. "how many special people change..." etc etc. toujours CJ I'm sorry that Jesus died for my sins, and I swear to God it won't happen again --Jewel "Sometimes it be that way" Scwenchville: http://www.bmtc.net/~lehmann/cj.html lehmann@bmtc.net * peachfuzz27@hotmail.com * gloriana13@hotmail.com peace * love * lythe ...on the advice of my attorney this sig file has no comment at this time... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 May 1997 20:36:33 -0500 From: "Enigmatic Paradox" Subject: Re: a murderer on the list Isn't Casey the best?
