It's been posted that French singer/legend Charles Aznavour has, or will be, inviting Jewel to join him in concert at the Montreaux Jazz Festival on July 12 1997. (That fits in with a gap in the current Lilith Fair tour dates.) The Montreaux Jazz Fest site is at http://www.grolier.fr/festival/montreaux/ and the current program schedule is at http://www.grolier.fr/festival/montreaux/general_info/program/ Right now the only scheduled performance of Aznavour is on July 18 as part of the tribute to French composer and singer Charles Trenet (AKA "The singing nut"!). There's an amazingly diverse group of artists that appear at Montreaux -- this year it's jazz acts like Cassandra Wilson and Wayne Shorter to rockers etc. Little Richard, Ritchie Havens, Maxi Priest, Isaac Hayes, Elvis Costello, Toure Kunda, Deep Purple (for a 25th ! anniversay of Smoke on the Water) etc. etc. Besides joining such a wildly talented line-up, if Jewel decides to play Montreaux it'll be in the land of her Swiss ancestors and alongside a singer, Charles Aznavour, who, like her, is known for singing from the heart and creating a special bond with his audience. And it would be a good time (summer) to pull out her Ella/Cole Porter favourite, Too Darn Hot. It'll be interesting to hear what happens. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Apr 1997 17:22:05 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: YWMFM #1 on Casey's Top 40!! Hey guys & gals, I think it's kinda funny that I was going to stay home last friday to see Jewel on the "4th Annual VH1 Honors" broadcast. I decided that I would record it and go to the Rugburn's show at Java Joe's. Well, guess who showed up... Jewel. I was half expecting it, but it was still quite exciting. Steve and Jewel sang a few songs together... Then The rugburns left the stage and it became a Jewel concert! I found that to be quite funny... from Sandy -ego (san diego, duh ; P ) Eul ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Apr 1997 18:31:39 -0600 From: Rich Bingham Subject: where to get the theme Art- There is one Jewel Theme Pack at the site below. The one you heard about on the mailing list is a new Theme Pack in the works. I hope it'll be better (not that the current one isn't good). My computer is hooked up through my stereo so I was able to tape the mediadome show. Its pretty good quality sound and the only thing wrong with it is a 45 pause in Morning song that happened when I got kicked off the server. if anyone is interested in it, write me and let me know. Jewel! It was kinda wierd because she was at my school, but in reality I don't go to that school. In fact I have never seen it! Anyways, she was talking to a group of about 20 of us. No one really knew who she was. I think she sang, but my dream is a little fuzzy. So after her speech everyone just left like it was the end of class. Me and some girl stayed behind and we both talked to Jewel. It was pretty cool, but I only remember asking her one thing. I like the band Rush so my question was geared towards that. I asked "if she had ever listened to the lyrics of Neil Peart." It is funny because she answered my question a lot like she did on the Charlie Rose show. That she relly hadn't gotten into the music scene to listen to other bands. Well that is my dream, I know I liked it. On another subject closely related. I seem to suffer from permanent writers block. Tons of ideas up in the ol noggin, but none on paper. Well in another dream I had, I wrote the best poetry I've seen(not to boast). I tried my best to remember but all I can get is "How could such prosperity be forgotten?" Oh well.. I will be sending Lenedra a bank check for all booklets ordered each month & if I cannot personally cash your money order, then I cannot send the booklet & must return your order unfilled. These booklets are in limited quantities & will not be printed again. I'll keep the list posted if it looks like they'll sell out to prevent having to return any requests. Remember, Amyjo & I volunteered to do this because so many EDAs requested it. Follow the simple instructions. I know this will be painless if you do. :-) If this can be done without a lot of problems, We've agreed to set up a similar thing with the leftover tour t-shirts. Lets see how it goes. I have not posted in a while, and I wanted to tell you all how much I love you. RIght now I have Jewel popped into the CD Rom of this computer. I decided that I wanted to sahre with you another one of my poems, so here it is... ...like most of my others, it has no title... by Stephanie Maria Kartalopoulos It gets so lonely in the middle of the night when you wait, wait, wait, but the light of the moon brings nobody to your side. It gets so lonely in the middle of the night when you know that you are not understood by anyone other than yourself. It gets so lonely in the middle of the night when it is SPringtime and lovers are holding hands revelling in the splendour of the day and you are only an observer. It gets so loely in the middle of the night when you can see him so well in your mind's eye but you know that he could care less. It gets so lonely in the middle of the night when you remember all those good things and how desperately you want him back but you know that his life has moved on and is now so far out of your reach. It gets so lonely in the middle of the night when you want to be so much but you constantly fail yourself and your expectations, hopes, and dreams are shattered. It gets so lonely in the middle of the night when you know that you are not good enough for yourself and for everyone else and you know more than anything that you have no right to claim air as your own to breathe. It gets so lonely in the middle of the night when the day has renewed itself and you stay the same without hope of renewal. baptism. rejeuvination. life. happiness. (the end) Please give me your brutally honest feedback if you are so inclined... love you all stephanie ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Apr 1997 23:49:46 -0400 (EDT) From: EFraser311@aol.com Subject: something worth checking out...
