Okay, as I posted earlier in a message about the HDF RugBurns interview, there is a fan-based publication in the works. At this time, it is scheduled as a quarterly publication, with distribution via the web (electronic) and and snail-mail (print). Behind this year-long effort are myself, Greg Dunn, Tom Proven and Rob Campbell. The purpose of this 'zine is to share the various aspects of Jewel, her music and the environment she creates with not only this fine list, but the world beyond! Quality in both content and presentation is a priority with the staff. We have evaluated our resources, and feel that we can deliver the level of publication that Jewel and her fans deserve. We have a good amount of talent and experience assembled to bring this publication to fruition. Our first test of the waters will be a commemorative piece for JewelStock, due out by the end of May. Shortly after that, the premiere issue of the 'zine will be released. Largely due to its cost-effectiveness, the web will be used to distribute the 'zine. Non-"web enabled" fans will also have access to a paper version. Submission of fan ideas, articles, photographs and artwork is encouraged. Our goal is to provide original material with a unique perspective, and insight not only into Jewel, but the fans themselves. Comments, submission offers and questions should be directed to the e-mail address JewelNews@aol.com. We'll answer as quickly as we can, but please keep in mind that this is a voluntary, non-money making venture (it is a labor of love). We feel this 'zine will nicely compliment the existing fan web sites, Jewel@smoe.org mail list and other efforts underway! More details will be released as we nail them down. Thanks for listening, and please share your feedback with us. - -- Dennis Harris, "Deep Water" fanzine staff member ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Apr 1997 23:42:18 -0700 From: John-Eric Subject: Johnapalooza 97: big party at my pad! Please RSVP even if you are not sure about the cash thing (I know that money always "manifests" itself somehow) and so I can get the ride situation together. Peace and inner health. Really. Here's the deal for Canadian EDA's on acquiring copies of the Jewel tour poetry booklets. First, to prove you're Canadian, you have to answer the following skill-testing question: What was Don Cherry's dog's name? Just kidding.... This will work quite similarly to Mr. BB's excellently conceived process. To reiterate, we're talking about Jewel's "Tiny Lights Tour '97" booklets that were sold during Jewel's recent tour. These booklets contain poetry, writing, vintage & recent photos as well as info about the tour itself. Here's the instructions. Please follow them EXACTLY in order for this to be as easy as possible for us. As Alan pointed out, the cost of the booklets are $10 in American dollars. (same as at the shows). This translates into $14 Canadian. To speed up the procedure, please send me (NOT the list) an e-mail as soon as possible to indicate how many booklets you would like. Please put "Canadian tour books" as the subject. Then send me a standard size manilla envelope (9.5" x 13") that is self addressed & with at least 90 cents in stamps already on it. (Note: DO NOT use postal meter postage! Only stamps.) Add an extra 90 cent stamp for each extra booklet ordered up to 5 booklets. Include $14 in Canadian funds in a cheque or money order for each booklet ordered. *****Make the cheque or money order out to me - Gerry Lipnowski***** NOT to Jewel. NOT to Alan. And certainly under no circumstances to a Harris brother....;-) I will simply put however many booklets you paid for in the envelope & send it back to you. It's that easy. Also, please note that I will be out town for the first two weeks of May. So, please put your envelope in the mail by April 18, or if you can't do it by then, wait until May 14. I'll repost this a few times next week, and we'll start again in May. Send your self adressed pre-postaged 9.5" x 13" manilla envelope, with a $14 cheque or money order for each booklet ordered to: Gerry Lipnowski 3951 Lacombe Montreal, Quebec H3T 1M7 MONTREAL EDA'S PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING; If you want to save yourself the mailing procedure and just meet somewhere for this transaction, send me an e-mail and we can probably do that. I know where most of you live anyway..... Everyone, please read the following reminder from Alan: - ------------------------------------------------------------- "These booklets are in limited quantities & will not be printed again. I'll keep the list posted if it looks like they'll sell out to prevent having to return any requests. Remember, Amyjo & I volunteered to do this "totally non-profit" because so many EDAs requested it. Follow the simple instructions. I know this will be painless if you do. :-) If this can be done without a lot of problems, We've agreed to set up a similar thing with the leftover tour t-shirts. Lets see how it goes." - ---------------------------------------------------------------- Right on Mr. BB......Ditto from me. On a personal note, I just want to point out that I bought one of the booklets at the Burlington VT show, and I genuinely like it a lot. And, as a last thought from me, I think we in Canada should distinguish ourselves from our American compatriots and refer to ourselves from now on as the ED eh's? What do think, eh? :-) Take care, Gerry ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Apr 1997 13:17:19 -0400 (EDT) From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: Re: Is Jewel still in Rockfest??? Hello all, I am new to the list and am glad to be here with you all. I'm a huge fan for three years now almost and am still reeling from finally getting to meet Jewel on the 21st of March in St. Louis. I am writing because I am interested in obtaining HIGH QUALITY copies of the Rare Angels, Radio Angels, and Innerchange Days recordings, as well as any other recordings with hard to find songs. If you can help a true fan out, let me know. It is greatly appreciated. I refuse to listen to the Doors if it isn't the In Concert cd. I also do this with musicals where I could be absolutely tired of a cd and be able to see the show 10 times. I had that problem with Show Boat - I saw it more times in NYC than I've listened to any of the recordings. The Wizard of Oz Concert is also ten times better than the movie (not just because Jewel was in it). Thank you in advance. Ok, so I'm getting married in June. Last night my bridesmaid calls me up and tells me that a whole mess of stuff has just come up in her life and there is no way she will be able to make it to the wedding. No prob, I say, I'm sure I can figure out something. So I come up with 2 alternates: my 15 yr. old cousin, Leslie, who is sweet although we have grown apart slightly lately (but I still love her of course); and my friend Marni, whom I have been best buds with since we were 7, although we had been growing apart slightly but whenever we get together or call or write we're like sisters. I wanted to have Marni as a first choice because of our awesome past. Here's the problem: My mother is making the bridesmaid's dresses. My mother also *despises* Marni (long story, basically Marni got kicked out of the religion we both used to be in and that my mom is still part of. I also left it shortly after). I called my mother last night and told her what my options were, and she was very bitter and full of hate when I mentioned Marni. She told me that she would be very upset with me, blah blah blah. Then I tell her I will let her know what I decide, and say goodbye. Five minutes later, she calls me up and tells me how hurt she is, and how she feels like I am doing this just to spite her, and that she cannot possibly imagine having a happy day with Marni in the wedding party. She tells me that she refuses to sew a dress for her, and then adds the icing on the cake: she and her husband refuse to come to my wedding if Marni is in it. My parents are divorced, and my dad is paying for the wedding, so that's not a problem. My mom and I don't have a great history together anyway, but I don't know what to do. Also, I just got the invitations yesterday and I had her name put on them. I really don't know what to do. I'm so confused, and hurt. I apologize for the length of this and for taking up list space when I know it will merely annoy some, but I really would like some feedback on this! Thank you all for your time if you got this far.
