I haven't heard of any meetings for Southern Ca eda's. What's the deal? Igor, Larry, eric? Where are you? By the way, I do have cd's for Igor, Liz, and John-Eric. I didn't forget :-) Does anyone going to the show tomorrow still have their Jingle Ball ticket stubs from the show that Jewel cancelled on in Dec? If anybody needs one I might have an extra. I guess their letting the first 100 people who show up with a ticket for the show and their Jingle Ball stub in at around 4:00 for a "mini-concert" during the sound check. Personally, I don't think this is fair to all the rest of the peolpe who saved their ticket stubs and won't be able to get in. They could have gotten refunds but instead decided it would be worth it to hold on for a "private show" that was talked about on local radio and through Ticketmaster. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to be one of the 100! Well if anyone wants to meet before/after the show, let me know. You guys are all probably saving your energy for the HDF (Hot Dog Fest) on Sun. Hope to see many of you tomorrow, -Joe Monterosso P.S. to Igor, Liz, and John-Eric-I have your Saint Doug cd's. I will be sitting in Section floor 1, row b seats 13 and 15. It changes the word from "Linda" to "Sarah," deletes the word "Nikos" and "Mormon"...Jewel and Steve Poltz sang "Silver Lining, and other songs together..Jewel got annoyed at audience members shrieking or making noises and said from the stage from the very first song for them to be quiet. Precedence: bulk When Alanis first came out with Jagged Little Pill in the summer of 95, it was also the summer that Lisa Loeb released her long-awaited album Tails. I was very excited about Lisa Loeb's new CD but when I bought it (AFTER buying Jagged Little Pill and loving it!!) I was very disappointed. I soon saw Lisa Loeb as just a wannabee, trying to pull off the tough-girl rock chick image, but not quite doing it right - especially when the video for her single Taffy was released. "like you're pulling taffy..." Anyway, Lisa has faded to being a folkish Sarah McLaughlin-like character now (nothing wrong with that - i like Sarah, she's from my hometown after all!!) but it soon seemed that Alanis was in a league all of her own... But now fellow Canadian singer Amanda Marshall is making it big, especially with Elton John mentioning her as one of the CDs in his cd player currently. It seems that to make it big in the states for Canadians, your initials should be AM. First Anne Murray, then Alannah Myles a few years ago, Alanis Morissette, and now Amanda Marshall. conspiracy??? Well Amanda is somewhat similar to Alanis in a few ways - both are really emotional performers, both have notable hair, both wave their hands in funny ways when they sing. What do u guys think of this comparison?? And by the way, What's the BIG deal with JEWEL?? personally, she bores and annoys me...i don't see what other people seem to see in her. I really hate that song "You Were Meant for Me" - i think the lyrics are lame. "got my eggs, pancakes too, blah blah blah, i make the yolk into a smiley face...etc." Sorry if this offends anyone - please no flames - but just wondering what it is that people see in her? College stations will play anything. Here's what I did. I gave my extra copy of POY to the local college radio station. They were new, needed music and were willing to play the obscure tunes. Any song off POY that I ask for they will play. The great thing about it is that other people are now calling in to ask for the less known songs. I thought her concert was really good at the Wiltern. It moved into 4th out of 7 concerts I have seen of her. The stage was done up real nice. It was better than the John Anson Ford show in May, At that show I think the loudness of the bass and drums ruined a lot of the subtlety that makes Jewel the sincere, honest artist that I dig her for being. I takes so much more to stand there in front of thousands by yourself and play and some simple guitar songs and sing your heart out (all of the words being audible) than to hear a loud electric guitar and have to fight over the drums to hear someone sing all the while trying to decipher the words. I missed a few of the oldies like Tiny Love Spaces and Boy and His Bike but heard a non-band version of Satalite (great) and some of the other new stuff.. I thought she might have been at the end of her exposure rope here in Feb-March with YWMFM being heard all the time but the news from BB confirmed the exposure continues (RS, SNL). After May expect her to play 5000 seat only venues. THat's all for now. Have great weekend. (all of you who lived in the Greater Boston area in the 70s and 80s might remember that from the commericals for the Museum of Science "where it's fun to find out") :-) > this may be old news, but has everyone caught the line from innocence maintained in the song "under the water?" > i'm listening to the craft soundtrack here at work and for the first time, i noticed it. pretty damn cool. > i wonder which song was written first? the liner notes mention the fact that ralph sall and jewel wrote u.t.w., but i don't have the details on i.m. handy. > any ideas? well, to the point at hand...i first heard "innocence maintained" on a tape from 6/10/95. "the craft" sdtrk was released around may of 95. i have a feeling that Jewel wrote IM first and then incorporated it into "Under the Water." but that's my guess :) does anyone know when was the first performance of IM? as far as Ralph Sall being credited with co-writing "under the water" i remeber reading that he was credited for writing the synthesized music, but not the lyrics. the lyrics are all from Jewel. but the credits in the liner notes do not make this point explicitly. peace, dave *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Dave DiCicco peaches@dmapub.dma.org "Innocence Maintained" is a moderated, news only email list providing its subscribers with timely information about Jewel Kilcher. I only know of YWMFM, Silver Lining, and > Kiss Your Ass. "Adrian," of course, and several that are on the Innerchange Days tapes: "Foodstamp Love," "Daddy She's a Goddess," and maybe one or two more. "Old Lover's House" was co-written, I'm pretty sure. A song that the Rugburns played in St Louis called (something like) "I Thought I saw You Last Night," and I'm pretty sure Steve mentioned that another one that they played there, kind of a slow love-ballad,was co-written, but I can't remember the title (or even how it went). And that's just off the top of my head from my tapes and the two concerts I've seen, so I'm sure there must be more. Hope this helped a little, Trent Smith ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #244 ***************************
