I'll give preference to EDA's willing to trade for something else. I have the Innerchange and Wiz of Oz coming, but anything else I don't have. I'll go as high as 15 copies if a lot of people have trades to offer. Also if someone could tell me what time it's on Monday I'd appreciate it although it won't affect your chances. The Rugburns were hilarious, and Jewel's humour throughout the show created a personal connection with the audience. You may remeber my post earlier about my going to California to see Jewel. Well, I'm happy to say that I've found some kind people who have helped me in my search for a ticket, but unfortunately, we haven't been successful yet. Maybe you've already read John-Eric's post about his needing a ticket also for the San Diego show. And I know that single tickets are harder to find and sell than pairs are, so if any of you out there have or know of any extra tickets (single or pairs) please let me know; maybe John-Eric and I could work something out if anyone has an extra pair. But first dibs go to John-Eric because he posted his request first. I know that miracles happen all the time, and I'm not going to give up on my search. That was one of the BEST concerts I have ever been to. It would have been THE BEST if z100, crappy radio station in Portland who's birthday brought Jewel to our fair city, had allowed Jewel to play longer, but oh well it was great any way. Setlist for all who care in somewhat of an order, but its not perfect. First near you always accapella (does this surprise anyone?), Morning Song, Cold Song (the audience loved this one everyone was laughing :), Pieces of you, Race Car Driver (another one they loved), 1000 miles away (Yes she did play this song, and I too think it is one of my favorites for those of you who are jealous, but think this was my first concert, you've been to many), YWMFM (with the entire cast of the Rugburns I cheered for Steve and Co when they came out, but as for the rest of Portland I don't think they had a clue as to how great a band they were listening to!! By the way, anyone with the address to their mailing list please email it to me privately) , then Silver Lining with Steve (really good song), Down ? (something she says its a new song, and its not on any of my tapes, so I really don't know it sorry), another song I don't know (trust me I looked through all my angel food, and couldn't find ANYTHING that resembled this song, it was really good though), Angel Standing By, WWSYS (with Stinky, John from Rugburns, and John Hagen on Cello anyone know why he's back (not that I'm complaining)), and you guessed it Chime Bells (I think Portland is the only city of people that have no clue as to all of Jewel's talents, NO ONE yelled for yodeling (although I am kinda glad), and they seemed extremely surprised she could do it). I think that's it, but if anyone was there, and remembers it differently please feel free to correct me. Ok, now to my review....for those of you who don't know this was a concert for the celebration of a radio stations birthday. They had Sheryl Crow, Dishwalla, Leah Andreone, and JEWEL (Better than Ezra was supposed to be there, but they cancelled). And for those of you who have seen Rugburns perform a whole set I am truly jealous!! Because they aren't a household name, they weren't part of the performance, except during Jewel's set. Anyways I'm just going to review the Jewel portion so if you want to know about the other bands, email me privately. That was soooo good. For anyone who hasn't seen Jewel live, do so as soon as she comes anywhere near you, she is so WONDERFUL. For people who have seen her did they get a weird feeling in their stomach and a feeling of true peace and bliss. I got that feeling, and for some reason I'm thinking I'm not alone in this. It was so great, no matter how many times I've listened to the Jewelstock tapes, or any of my other articles of angel food, I have never gotten this same feeling. To know you are in the same room as an angel is a truly wonderful feeling!! I felt sorry for people who didn't listen to her, or were rude, they didn't realize they were witnessing an angel in action. She was so great, although I wish she would have had time for more stories, she is so articulate. I think she did a great job handling a crowd of this size (there were around 6,000 people there. I think I've converted some of my friends into diehard Jewel fans. Yea!! Did anyone else get the feeling when she was singing, that she was singing to you personally? I totally got that feeling, and I was so happy. I was also happy that she sang a lot of songs that weren't on POY, although I would have liked to have heard Foolish Games. All the people I heard talking about the concert were just talking about how they loved Jewel, and she wasn't even the headliner. Well I better go, I have an early class in the morning, but I just want to say thank you to all of you for making it possible for me to hear all of Jewel's other music that's not on the cd!! I felt so knowledgeable at the concert. I love you guys!! I hope you had a great easter, I know I did, this will be one easter I will never forget. Also, I'm sorry I didn't meet any edas, maybe next time!! :_ Goodnight all!! Well I have just wondered apon the answer. Well here is what I think happened. Well Jewel was on a trip in Mexico, I think, to surf when she wrote the song, well for breakfast on the day she wrote that song she had some scrambled eggs and she had those on her mind when she wrote the song because the orginal line was going to be "break the yolks make some scrambled eggs", but later that evening the srambled eggs decided not to agree with some of her internal organs like her stomach so they reapeared. Well by the next morning she was all better and ready to surf but while waiting for her friend she reread the song and decided that if it said break the yolks make some scrabled eggs it would make her think of that bad experience with them. So while thinking of what to put in place of that a surfer came along with his surf board that had a giant smiley face and she remebered that when she was sick her mother used to make her eggs in the shape of smiey faces so she crossed out scrambled eggs and put in a smiley face. And before she could change yolks to eggs her friend came along and she put away her song to surf. She never got a chance to change yolks to eggs becuase it didn't fit into the music that she wrote for the song. Till this very day she regrets it and in order for us not to make her mad we should never bring it up again. *~Chrissy, the angel in the very creative mood~* *************************************************(A Quote goes here.) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 31 Mar 1997 12:41:08 -0500 (EST) From: Little Earthquake Subject: Re: Jewel in YM Which YM is she in? When we did this for YWMFM radio stations didn't play it right away, we got responses like "I'll see if I can find it" or "We are a hits station, but I'll play Who Will Save Your Soul for you if you want" and we will see more of the same. But like we did before, we can give the Rugburns a chance to be heard. Just to review, we are not Rugburn fans, we are not Jewelfans and we are not EDAs, we are a general sample of the music enjoying public population and we want to hear "Lockjaw" by the Rugburns. I don't have all of the radio stations that I used to because I lost my most updated list, but if you have a local radio station that plays Jewel, I'd love to add it to this list. Please open your hearts and give a few minutes of your time to help the Rugburns. After all, a friend of Jewel's is a friend of ours. Finally, someone with morals. I believe that if a person is really that miserable enough, they would leave or apparently they're not that unhappy. I hear people say all the time that if a person cheats, it's because they're unhappy. Duh. If they're that miserable, why don't they leave? Cheating is never the answer. If you want to be with someone else, then divorce first, then screw anything you want. Anyways, thank you for the input. Casey Kasem's countdown is taked from charts in _Radio & Records_, a trade publication that competes with _Billboard_. "Who Will Save Your Soul" went to #1 on the R&R chart last year, which seems to indicate its reporting stations and stores are more Jewel-friendly. Also, Billboard probably gives more weight to sales [which are dillute since a lot of new Jewel listeners will pass the single for _POY_ so they can go ahead and get both singles on the same disc.] - -- Reverend Angus avernon@scott.net ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 31 Mar 1997 14:56:52 -0600 (CST) From: Karen Richardson Subject: Re: Jewel News: Billboard photo Hi guys, I'm forwarding this message --can anyone answer Bill's question? An aid of hers who works at the office *used* to regularly interact with the list, however as the list grew and Jewel's popularity grew, she had to move to the Jewel-news list, and now does not even have the time to follow the list and write to it anymore.
