Hey Angels, Bryan here again. I have some info for all of you who are intrested in the EDA playing Cards. Here's the deal. THE DESIGN: Basically the cards are going to be EDA-Blue with Gold Metalic lettering. I must say, from the prelimary design they look fablous. Photograph transfers are not possible. I will be using a NON JEWEL QUOTE!!! At present, nothing has been decided. If you have any suggestions, let me know. You never know, yours may be the one that is liked the most. So please, send be a NON JEWEL Quote or idea!! THE OTHER STUFF PART I: The cards including shipping(bubble pack and postage etc.) will come to around $15.00 They are definitally worth it. I've seen some examples and the Metallic Gold writing against the Blue background really stands out. THE OTHER STUFF PART II: I need to really know who is intrested. Once I can get a head count, I'll procede from there and get in touch will you all again. For the record, I'm not making any profit off of these and I'm totally donating all my own time. THE OTHER STUFF PART III: I really would like to make this a list event in which everyone has a say on how these playing cards actually turn out. So please, feel free to give in your $0.02. PS, if responding to this privitally, please put "Playing Cards" in the subject line. Thanks, An EveryDayAngel, Bryan. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Mar 1997 00:12:51 -0600 (CST) From: pwmielech@stthomas.edu Subject: Minneapolis Show!!! (Part 2) OK I left off with the Rugburn's set. You guys don't even realize how long this is taking me to write I am the slowest tpyer. Alright Jewel came on after a 20 min break. She looked great. The crowd was great. They were very well behaved and Jewel actually comented on it. She opened with NYA as usual acapella. The crwd went nutz and then they just Shut up. It was rally weird. Ok I have no idea what the set list was she played so long. I couln't believe it. Ok here goes. IT KICKED MY ASS! I got to meet all of the 'burns and get stuff signed (also, it kicked my bass player's ass). IT was awesome and Jewel played 4 songs that I hadn't heard before. I also got to meet Pete, one of the five or so Minnesota Angels... Happy day! (Part 3) OK so I was suposed to meet Damon at the show. He told me where his seats were but not what Balcony. So I didn't see him. But after the show this guy taps me on the shouder and says Pete! I instantly knew who it was even though I had never met him. For some reason I thought He was coming from Detriot. ANyway He was suposed to meet with Steve after the show about the EDA project. So we hung out in the lobby for a while. Then suddenly my sister yells out Hey there's Stinky. We go over to him to see him swamped with 14 year old girls. I went up to him and told him he did a good job. He signed my CD Liner Notes. My sister told him he looks better in a kilt since he just had plaid pants on. Then John Castro walks out. He is instantly surrounded. We finally get to him. And he signs out stuff. I told him I say him at Java Joes. My sister adds that his parents were there. He responds Oh you were at that one huh. My sister then asks if he has enough sock and underware. He looks up and smiles. OK now we are out side and the crwd is pretty small so. We ask StinkY and John for a picture My sister jumps in the the picture and says to Stinky Pretend like you know me. Stinky then lands a big wet one on the cheek of my sister. I hope the piture turns out. OK now we are standing outside. Damon and and his friend decide to stick around but my sister has to be at work in the morning so we decide to go. All in all it was a great expierance. Pete ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Mar 1997 23:27:02 -0500 From: piper@mclv.net Subject: Important JC Question!!!!! I'm just gonna throw in a couple viewpoints, opposing angles (angels) whatever. And for the sake of Momrox1, here's a little something: Curious. Why do we (people, not just the list) argue? Think about it. It seems to be mainly a pride thing. You know? I mean, when someone argues, they're trying to make someone else see their point of view, which they are convinced is the right point of view, but then who's to say which POV is right? It boils down to "i wanna show my stuff and i'm gonna pound what i have to say into the other person's ear until i get tired." Or is it like that Arguement sketch from Monty Python where the guy goes to a place just to sit and have a good arguement for arguement's sake. i dunno. Argue on. Right. so. I think that $10 for the poetry book is a bit pricey. now i paid bargain basement price for it ($8), so I'm not complaining. j/k. Really, it does seem to be such a small return for $10. Gerry made the point about the shirts costing 20-25 bucks and how they are even more than the cd and twice the price of the books. But look, at concerts, i've found that what is sold is often sold at a slightly higher price than what i would pay at a retail market. cd's are generally $15 at a concert, but at a store, i can probably find them for 10-15 dollars. I never pay over 14 for a cd unless it's an import or double cd or something. Shirts with a logo, especially a name brand thing which is what Jewel on a shirt basically is, can be bought for various amounts in stores, ranging from 10-25 dollars. At concerts, concert shirts are generally sold for 15-20 dollars. The shirt price, when compared with an equal purchase outside of the venue, seems reasonable. However, if one were to find a flimsy poetry book such as the one being sold on the tour in a bookstore (hypothetical of course), it would most probably NOT be sold for around 8-10 dollars. it would be much less, i believe. Still, we have to remember that the poetry book is something different than just any ordinary pamphlet or poetry book. It's a concert souvenir if i ever saw one. There were only 3500 or so printed up from the first run (and i didn't get the feeling from talking to Bibi that they did anymore print runs) which is a very small print run leading to a higher selling price. It's not something that you'll find in your local Waldenbooks or Border's Bookstore. And the merchandise that they sell at concerts is a very profitable way to get more money (and as the rugburns have pointed out, immediate spending money) for the artist and crew. Flipside: Jewel is getting paid upwards of $15,000 (I'd guess 20,000 or more, depending on if she's playing at a school or at a club or theater, now) for each show, where just one whole year ago she was earning maybe $3,000 per show. Flipside again: Jewel is traveling with a MUCH bigger crew this time, rather than just her and a roadie, so the costs of paying everyone and renting the equipment justifies her jump in price. I don't think that ticket prices would be changed at all depending on whether or not she was selling the poetry books at whatever price. Ticket prices are set by the people who put the concert together and hire jewel to play at their venue, so they have to see how much they are paying Jewel, how many people they can cram into the venue, how much they can make from beverages and snacks, and divide it all up to get a ticket price that will give them at least a small profit. And I don't know how much input Jewel had into the poetry books. Bibi never said while i was in earshot, but i do know that Bibi was the one to design them, but not to print them out and screw them up like the printers did. Poor Bibi. She designed the book and the shirts, and the makers of both screwed them up and she ain't happy with the end products :( Paul "hang the dj" Kim ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Mar 1997 01:58:32 -0500 From: Gianfranco Covello Subject: RE: poetry book (gerry's post) Paul2k wrote: <> I agree, I put a post awhile ago about me disliking pride and what it = does to people, and how it makes them act. I can't imagine a bigger "ego rush" than having so many intelligent, good-hearted folks travel from all over the country to hang on every word you say, and appreciate every note you sing for two nights. I doubt that even an audience hired by Atlantic Records would have been as cooperative or supportive, and certainly wouldn't care to know so much about a struggling young artist offering such an important message. I just hope folks now presenting themselves as EDAs uphold their end of the bond we've established with Jewel. Treat her and your fellow fans with respect. That's the key. The fools ruining it nowadays are too stupid (or frightened of life) to enjoy the event sober, or they simply just don't get it. It's really sad. They can't work out the problem (or even listen to advice from folks trying to help), so they stamp their feet and cry. Not a pretty sight. Anyway, anyone who is on the LOOSE MAIL form of the list should CHANGE IT TO DIGEST FORM unless they meet the following criteria: 1) They live for e-mail trickling in constantly. 2) They enjoy sorting through dozens -- or hundreds -- of random posts, OR 3) They are Mike Connell. Just a tip, angels. I was on loose mail for a week when I first joined and it was HELL. Nice thing about the digest is you can read it several days later and the running threads make sense. Seems most folks don't know there even is a digest, and they wade through the loose mail until they drown. Also, most "panic posts" are by folks who never read the FAQ and therefore don't have a clue as to what they are doing (bad enough they frustrate themselves, but then they decide to SHARE it with the whole list...tsk-tsk!). Check out Mike's excellent FAQ on the web at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup If you need help (on anything at all -- even your laundry), e-mail Mike Connell as well at: ducksoup@spectra.net I suggest this because it meets the following criteria: 1) Mike lives for e-mail trickling in constantly. 2) Mike enjoys sorting through dozens -- or hundreds -- of random posts, AND 3) Mike is Mike Connell. =) - -- Dennis (Helping Hands Manifest Thoughtfulness) Harris ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Mar 1997 08:54:10 +0100 From: Alexander Stamou Subject: NJC: Re: Howard stern on Letterman= Big trouble! The unprecedented event is being produced by Warner/Avalon, a Nashville-based entertainment marketing company." DIRECTIONS: From Fort Worth take Interstate Highway 35W North to Exit 69. Turn left off Exit 69 onto State Highway 114. Entrances to the Texas Motor Speedway will be on your right. Entrances to the Texas Motor Speedway will be on your right. TAILGATE PARTY Join us for the tailgate party at 5:30pm on June 20. You will beat the crowds and avoid the day-of-show rush! There will be food and beverages, souvenirs, a stage with live music featuring up-and-coming artists, and other great interactive attractions! Not to mention that this is a great chance to check out the layout of the venue and the super-sized stage equal to 1.5 football fields in length. CAMPING AND PARKING On-site camping costs $30.00 per vehicle for the weekend. Gates for camping will be open at 8:00 am on Friday, June 20 for Rock Fest '97 early arrivers. Cars and RV's are welcome to camp. Restroom facilities will be available as will food and merchandise. (RV dumpsite also available, but no other facilities.) On-site parking costs $5.00 per car and $30.00 per RV. Parking gates will open at 6:00am on Saturday, June 21. FESTIVAL RULES Because Blockbuster Rock Fest '97 is an event for the entire family, the following items are not allowed: glass containers, pets (except service animals), video or audio recorders, beach umbrellas or any other device that may impair the sight of other spectators, illegal drugs or other controlled substances and weapons of any kind, including explosives, fireworks, etc. No cameras allowed. No beer will be sold on the premises. You may bring food, beer and other beverages into the venue inside a cooler (up to 14"x14"x14"). A $10.00 fee will be charged per cooler. Hard liquor and wine may not be brought into the venue. No glass containers allowed. Everyone four years and older must have a ticket to gain admission. Both lawn and grandstand general admission seating will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Wheelchair seating with one companion will be available. Blockbuster Rock Fest '97 will take place rain or shine! ****Now for the confusing part**** The tickets are free *with purchase* but you can buy them also. Looks like all ticket acquisitions must be made through snail mail. You can: 1. Buy something from Blockbuster valued over $10 and send in the receipt to get *one* ticket. (Now's a great time to go buy POY for someone who has yet to be inspired by the angelic voice we all know and love.) 2. Buy two packages of Fruit of the Loom clothing and send in the UPC symbols plus the cash register receipt to get *one* ticket. (Hrmm... something 'bout underwear and socks in the recent posts make me think that this isn't such an out of the way option. :) 3. Or you can send in $16 to receive *one* general admission ticket. (Note: I believe General Admission seating is in the grandstands of the speedway. Which may put you farther away from the stage and the rest of the EDA's) So... they may say it's free but there's a lot of small print. I hope this answers everyone's question about the actual event. Info on an EDA gathering follows: 1. EDA's will be there. Probably more than a typical EDA gathering. 2. No other infomation exists to date. That's all I know for now. I'm going to bed. I got sooo many emails from sooo many people trying to help me feel better. You see, I check my email every morning on my 2 hour break between classes and I started getting messages the very next day. They all helped me soo much. I feel a lot better now, I am *almost* over Eddie, and we have stayed friends. Here's what ended up happening: He went home last weekend to talk to his pregnant ex, and when he gets there, she doesn't look very pregnant to him, so he askes her what's up. (I am soooooooo mad about this) Turns out that she had an abortion months ago and he knew that. He thought that her letter meant that she lied about the abortion, kept the baby, and is now telling him the truth. So he asked her why she did that, and her reply was, "I just reeeeaaaalllly wanted to talk to you". He doesn't understand why she couldn't just call him, but now his home life is all screwed up b/c of this girl. She told his parents, and they were mad, to say the verrrry least. they still want him to marry her, they blame the whole thing on him, even though he has explained to them that she had the abortion before he even knew she was pregnant. Now, because this dumb girl screwed him over like this, coupled with the fact that 2 of his other ex's are pregnant(not by him) kind of freaked him out and now he is terrified to date or even get close to anyone. It's better that we are apart and just friends because I graduate in November so we will be too far away from each other. Anyway, I am feeling a lot better, I'm not so depressed anymore, I know that there are more fish in the sea, and I also know that this wasn't the end of the world. thank you all for being there for a girl you barely know when her world was ending. Subject: Jewelstock tapes It's great to see that there's such a boom in interest for the JS tapes, thank you mike! Please don't email me about dubbing them for you, however, I don't have access to a double-deck, and I've chunked my tapes up a couple times already by accidentally pushing the record button. But, I would like to address the recent "JS tapes for trade or SALE" message. I thought that Mike--don't quote me on this, Mike has been known to say things without backup, and I wouldn't like to follow in his footsteps :)--said in his recent info post on JS that the tapes are never to be sold, only traded among list members in friendship? Reimbursement for blank tapes and postage is recommended, but I don't think you should pay off your source with money. Bribe them with thoughtful gifts, if you feel indebted. First, giant strides are being made on the Jewel Performance Chronology again. Adam hasn't had a chance to update the online version yet, but it should be updated again soon. Recently, I found all the missing Innerchange dates so fairly soon all of the missing ones will be included. The Chronology still has a few missing dates, but(when updated) will be almost complete from her Interlochen Graduation to present (for actual shows). Also many mistakes & missing dates have been corrected. The master database now contains almost 650 performances/entries. In related news, I've begun corresponding with Atz Kilcher(Jewel's Dad) & I'm hoping he'll be able to help me fill in some info on shows Jewel did in Alaska prior to leaving for Interlochen Arts Academy. So new info on "vintage" performances may be added soon, as well. For those who've yet to check out The Chronology, its always available at: http://home.sprynet.com/sprynet/xenomorph/jchrono.htm Big thanks to all those who've written me with suggestions, corrections & additions! And a major thanks to Adam Longfellow for helping me on this project & including it on his incredible "Pieces Of Jewel" website. Without his efforts, I would be unable to share it with you all. Also, I'd just like to add to Mike's (special jewel-announce) post regarding the Jewelstock Tapes. When I first assembled & remastered these tapes for distribution, I received nothing but exstatic responses from everyone & I was extremely happy about the entire situation. As with all good things, the free "tree" distribution ended. Since then, I've received nasty emails, threatening phone calls & other miscellaneous problems. These primarily came from people that were not on the list at that time & felt that I personally owed them these tapes. It was very disconcerting & it caused me much frustration. I share this with you because I want new people to understand that we never discouraged the hundreds of "leafs" from making free copies of these tapes for new list members. We encouraged it (and still do), as a matter of fact. I understand that getting Jewelstock Tapes is slightly more difficult now, but its easily accomplished by making friends with another EDA & politely asking for them to make you copies. The "rules" regarding these tapes were NOT put in effect to alienate anyone. They were done in an effort to keep these tapes safe from unscrupulous hands in order so that we can do these wonderful free distributions again. The more cynical amongst us, think these "rules" are senseless & nothing more than impossible requests. I REALLY would like to believe that EDAs can be the exception to the rest of the Internet, & that by respecting the wishes regarding these tapes, we'll be able to continue this wonderful tradition. Jewelstock & the subsequent distribution of these tapes was an incredible experience & as Chopped Liver Charlie so eloquently put it: " They are unique in the music business and we have a responsibility to protect the spirit in which Jewel gave them to us." I agree with what Tim is saying and what Mike implied. The Jewelstock tapes were a free gift to this list and they are priceless. By putting a cheap price on them it would do them no justice. Besides whether or not you're selling them to a list member for $2 or a record distributor for $10000 you are still selling the tapes which is a definate "no-no". I don't have acess to a double-deck either so I am of no use in the dubbing of these tapes. Sorry. That's my $0.02. -Eric "Remember, everytime you do a good deed you kick Satan in the ass, and he hates that."-Tim Allen ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #201 ***************************
