Well, I've been on for a little= over a month and posted once or twice at first but lately I've been really= busy and had to let the Jewel mail filter to a folder until I could read= it. So now I've read my digests and here are some comments/responses I'd= like to make on the first few digests I got (I wrote before but didn't have= time to read much). :-) Sorry some are so outdated but please bear with me.= I'll skip on to the later ones after this to get the new info before I read= all the other old ones. BTW, my name is Amber and I go by HYPER on the net= mostly. Some of you might recall me posting about twice before. :-) I'll be= more involved once I've gotten all caught up. :-) ON FEB. 5TH, TIFFANY WRITES: >Ok this may not be very good because it is my 1st poem and because i wrote = it >in 5min. in homeroom at school this morning. I wrote one during Geometry a few weeks ago= but it's sort of personal. :-) Jewel inspired me though and it has to do with prejudice= and stuff, and how I unknowingly put myself in the victims' place through my dreams --= experiencing the pain of prejudice first-hand though not in reality :-) And has shown me= areas of my life where I had tended to be a little bad about things like that and threw me= into the other position. Hmmm...quite an interesting concept yet all true. Anyway, that= probably sounds silly to some, but it's important to me. It's still not exactly how I want= it to sound & is very general and leaves you guessing. There are parts I'm not satisfied= with and feel the need to change later, when I can make it sound better. Still working on= it. I'm also working on another similar poem (which I also started in that Geometry class= last week). I guess Geometry just bores me...hehehe...oh well. :-) ON FEB. 5TH, TLC WRITES: >Mine is at http://users.aol.com/tlcathome/jewel.htm. I've visited that page, and I noticed one of the pics wasn't from that= video. Is it from the first version that I've heard Sean Penn directed? Is there any way I= could maybe get that video? I really want to see it and any other versions a lot! :-) BTW, I= have seen 2 versions(sort of) of "WWSYS". I have= felt the same way about her and her music, message, etc. I don't think anyone could have= expressed it all better than you did in this letter. And I just love all of you on the= list. I was way excited about it, and let me tell you, it was much more than I could have ever expected. I was totally impressed by the Rugburns. I can see why Liz loves Steve Poltz. He's a cool guy. I can also see why Shelly loves Stinky too. He's such a babe, and so spunky too. He's my favorite in the band. I can't say that I'm all that impartial though because I play the drums myself. I got them all to sign my Jewel poetry book. Stinky put devil horns on Jewel's head in the pic on the front.(bad Stinky!!!) You've already heard the play by play of the whole concert so I'll just throw my 2 cents in here. The whole time that Jewel played I was mesmerized. My friend had to keep hitting me to make sure I was still alive and stuff. I had to pick a seat behind some moron who kept yelling things to Jewel. Any of you who were there, I know you couldn't see it, but that guy who was yelling stuff was with his girlfriend. he yelled things like "will you marry me?" to Jewel and his girlfriend was just about to smack him. Jewel gave him the finger. It was funny. It was nice to see some new EDA's there too. I already had met Liz and Shelly. At the concert I was briefly introduced to Mia, Dan Stark, and Tim Burkeman. How about Anne Rice's "Life of the Mayfair Witches" books (the actual book titels being: The Witching Hour, Lasher, and Taltos)? :] Hehe. I first read the first three books of "The Vampire Cronicles" (the first of wich was Inverview w/ the Vamp) and then stumbled across these books. I was really amused by these. The odd thing is, as screwed up as this family is, I still like em more then then my own family :]. I also really like the Clive Barker's "The Art" books (book titels: The Great and Secret Show, and Everville, ???? a 3rd is suppose to be coming out but I havn't heard much). They are very sureal and just plan weird. Very good books. As far as Steven King books go I recomend 'The Stand' (they almost got this one right in the movie version), 'The Tommyknockers' (wich they TOTALY screwed for the movie), and 'The Dark Half' (just about 2 degress short of the perfect book-to-movie translation). Also, I liked the novelle 'The Langoliers' (The BEST book-to-movie translation EVER) from the book "Four Past Midnight" ( book with 4 stroies, of wich I have only read the ist :]). A lot of money is made on merchandise sold at concerts. Usually a third party is involved and has bid for the rights to handle it. If the EDA's could do it instead, we could make better use of the profits. We could give it back for a needy cause in the area of the concert. Igor ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Mar 97 00:08:36 EST From: Burkeman Subject: THE ODYSSEY (part A) (1/5) Now, for your reading enjoyment and informational purposes, (and trust me there are show reviews and setlists in here somewhere,) "Shelly, Liz and Tim's Wild Ride" (with the help of Dan and Mia) by Timothy J. Burke It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. The story begins in Toledo, OH where we find me (burkeman) arriving at Shelly & Liz's house ready to go to Columbus. Said residents are still asleep... we travel to the mall and purchase underwear and socks for the Rugburns. Liz makes the first of many dips into the food budget. She also grabs a number of 'I am loved' buttons, which will also eventually end up in the hands of EDAs, Rugburns and staff alike. The three Musky-teers leave after cleaning up and arrive in the metropolis of Columbus at 2:00. My directions lead us to the parking lot immediately adjacent to the Palace theatre. We see the tour bus... Shelly parks her car in a lot which provides my back-seat view of the alley in which the bus is parked. Liz is laden with cookies from her mother, messages from California, the aforementioned purchases, lots of stuff okay. The three take a lap or two around the building to get their bearings and notice a suspicious-looking man who later puts on a long hat. They are basically staking out the bus for any sign of Steve, John or Stinky. Liz is on a mission: she holds important information for Steve, we're talking national security here. Every car that drives down the alley prompts an "Oh oh, who's this?" from me. Hours pass. Then a break: a car drives next to the bus. We see John and Jewel inside. Oh wait: it's not Jewel, it's John Castro's girlfriend. We see them, ahem, publicly display their affection. She drives away, and John heads for the bus. We rush out of the car; "John! John!" He looks at us, climbs onto the bus. The three are crushed: John Castro has ignored them because he's mad because they watched him making out with his girlfriend. They go back into the car and weep with sorrow: let's go home, they say. John hates them... Then: a break. Another bus pulls up. The three get out and are almost run over by the bus. They see a number of Jewel fans gather around the stage entrance door. They join them reluctantly, as these fans wait for an autograph from Miss Kilcher. Our protagonists think about their mission and how it is quickly becoming trivialized. They distance themselves. John comes out of bus #1. He stops to chat for a bit, how's it going John, small talk essentially. But we prove the point that he doesn't actually hate us, and we learn that Steve and Jewel are on Bus #2, and that Stinky, John and the crew are on bus #1. JOHN: "So what are your names?" LIZ: "I'm Liz from Toledo." SHELLY: "I'm Liz's big sister Shelly." TIM: "I'm the bastard." Hence I earned my name for the weekend. John goes inside, unnoticed by the fans crowding the door. Stinky comes out of the building, also unnoticed, almost by us. He enters bus #1, comes back out carrying his outfit for the night. SHELLY: "Stinky, I like your shoes." STINKY: "Oh wow, they like you too." (shoes grope Shelly) Later: LIZ: "My carphone's on the pill." STINKY: "And my girlfriend's got call waiting." (ad nauseam) Stinky comments on how the song makes sense up until a certain point where it makes entirely no sense at all. He goes back inside, only to return shortly to the bus. He comes back out with a 7-up and microwaved popcorn, which he offers to us. (Liz still has the bag I think, I retrieved a cigarette butt only to burn myself in the process.) Shelly bums him a cigarette, then has her own lighted by the same lighter in the Belly Up promo poster. We invite him to spend the night in Toledo, hey its on the way, Stinky says he'll be wandering through the streets looking for the house, staggering around with a bottle in his hand. Stinky is interested in Shelly's future, which she explains to him. Stinky talks about how perseverance is so important to success. We heed these words the entire weekend. He goes back inside. Then... Steve and Jewel leave the bus and rush inside, not even acknowledging their fans. :( Bibi comes out to unload the shirts from underneath the bus. We say hi, offer our help bus she declines as we small talk. Steve and Stinky come out together. Still, no one notices them. Steve is eating a banana (remember this.) Better yet, Stinky has three coffees in his hands for us! What a great guy! Liz gives Steve the socks, shirts, underwear, cookies, messages, buttons, everything else. We talk for a bit and they're cold, they go back inside. We get smart and go back to the car. We get to the Wendy's and there are no EDAs there. Apparently they're at some other Wendy's than the 1st ever one. While there, we see a man consoling a cup of coffee. It didn't want to talk. The Palace is a great place, they let people hang out in the outer lobby until the doors open. We settle down and set up our posters. Then they start rolling in! First thing you see is Gerrit's hat. Lauren, Mia & her boyfriend, nice to see you guys again... we recruit a non-EDA named Damien to join the list (he's very knowledgeable and has been to 6 shows.) The doors open... we're underdressed! All the ushers are in tuxedoes and the Palace is a beautiful place. The three of us set our posters in our row D seats (pretty good) and hang with the other EDAs. Steve and John come out, once again no one even sees them, we talk to them and Bibi comes out too, the six of us chat as Steve rolls out a little Rugspeak as he looks down John's pants. He says John's hog is small... then Steve clowns around with Bibi. Liz requests My Carphone's On The Pill and Shelly had already requested Impala. 15 minutes to show time, the Rugburns have to go change, bye, lets go to our seats. --continued in part 2, with the Columbus show review!!-- - --------------------------------------------------- Tim Burke tburke@mail.heidelberg.edu "Excuse me while I get drunk from watching too much bad TV"- Jewel "You're too young to drink alcohol."- Steve Poltz - --------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Mar 97 00:08:51 EST From: Burkeman Subject: THE ODYSSEY (part (de)Trois) (3/5) When we last saw our heroes Tim, Shelly, and Liz, Shelly was getting on the tour bus with Stinky... And he realizes he left his stuff at the hotel. Who has a car parked next to the building? Shelly, of course. Tim, Liz, and Lauren get in the back seat as Stinky rides shotgun. STINKY: What are we listening to? SHELLY: The Rugburns! STINKY: Oh god, don't you have any good music? TIM: What's this tape? STINKY: Whatcha got there? TIM: (embarrassed) ummm, it's my band. STINKY: Here, gimme the tape. What's your band name? TIM: New Pattern Shirt. You really don't want to listen to... STINKY: That's a cool band name. Oh, yeah, I wanna hear your band! TIM: uhhhh... The tape is rewound a bit to my 'group' Joe & the Canadians (actually a multitrack of 5 tim 'burkemen' singing my doo-wop arrangement of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." Stinky loves it, and next on the tape is my broadcast project, my 5 minute long radio 'interview' with Jewel. This goes over even better. Stinky has tears streaming down his face. (Okay I couldn't see his face but I hope there were tears.) He asks if he can have the tape. Mind you, this tape has: 1) My band playing a terrible rehearsal of Lockjaw; 2) Clips from LizStock of Gerrit singing I'm Sensitive; 3) the master recordings of Joe & The Canadians and my radio show. I say, yeah sure, I have copies of it, & he takes the tape. We return to the Palace, and Shelly and Stinky get back on the bus. Gerrit & Lauren say goodbye, and Mia, Tim, and Liz are left to wonder what Shelly is up to. They pass the time by screaming Rugburns songs out loud (until John walks by, then they shut up.) But the town of Columbus was rocked every time Tim yelled "QUARTER-INCH!" Frostbite was beginning to attack the rabid fans when Shelly finally emerged from the bus. Arrangements were made for Sunday's meeting, while the now quartet plan to follow the bus to Detroit. Cooler heads prevail, and Shelly, Liz, Tim, and Mia walk into the house in Toledo at 3:00 a.m. Donuts and orange juice are provided for the road-weary travellers as they hurry to be at the tour bus by noon, as arranged. They park the car in the street the bus is parked on. After waiting around, they discover the stage door is open. A security guard says the band isn't there, they're still back at the hotel. Sure. After strong encouragement, Shelly walks up to knock on the bus door. Stinky beats us to it, dressed smartly in sunglasses and stylish hat. TIM: Good morning, Stinky. STINKY: Nothing good about it. We talk for a long while. Dan arrives (or was already there, I haven't remembered yet), we hang out and decide to eat lunch while Shelly hangs out with Stinky. We all pile into the 89X/River van and we become important. There's a prominent egg stain on the side of the van... savages in this town. We travel to Royal Oak where we find a fine place called Mr. B's Pub. The waitress knows of no Alan Bershaw. We return to pick up Shelly, who is standing with Stinky in the exact same place they were when we left them. Tim sees two security guards taking aspirin and thinks, "Pile on the hangover, just give it to me at once." Liz says out loud, "let it fall down like a curtain on my brain with a one-two punch." This phenomenon has yet to be explained, but shows how EDAs are often on the exact same brain wavelength. People are starting to show up to meet Jewel when she comes out of the bus. A girl comes over. GIRL: Is this where she's going inside? TIM: Who? GIRL: Jewel. TIM: Who's that? GIRL: She's having a concert here tonight. TIM: What, she a singer or something? Jewel what? What's her last name? GIRL: I don't know. TIM: Sorry, I don't know anyone named Jewel. I know this band the Rugburns, though. You know 'em? (wink at Stinky) John Hagen exits the bus. We give him a polite clapping and he nods. I would really have like to talk to him a bit... he's extremely talented. We meet a big Rugburns fan who was told by Steve to meet him at the door. Oops, Steve and Jewel just got out of a minivan and went inside. This guy was actually cool though, he was at the infamous Indy show. DUDE: Oh man, I miss Doc. It's like, you expect to hear the solo, but it's just Steve playing rhythm, which is cool... (we hear this story at least three times) He's with a woman who stole Shelly's pen. Oh wait! She's from Maumee. She's a postal worker. Someone warn Jewel! (just kidding my uncle is a postal worker) We go over to the comedy club, no one's there. Hey, Dan has some things to do over at his place. Let's go to Canada! To anyone who has never been there, Dan has a fantastic apartment. We posted a report, listened to the Cleveland show and saw pictures. Time to return stateside! Yes, we are of American citizenship. Dan (drives us in a big circle then) pulls the van to the front of the theatre where there is a line for the general admission. We hop out of the van, passing out 89X and The River stickers. Yes, we are V.I.P.'s! We are EDAs! We are making fools of ourselves! A return to the comedy club and a meeting with a fellow EDA- hi! We all decide to go into the theatre. Shelly and Tim get hot dogs inside... Shelly wasn't hungry when she was given the opportunity to eat with the band, apparently. We find our seats.. Tim does indeed have Row A, seat 11, the seat directly in front of the main microphone in the front row, the best seat in the house, yadda yadda. He actually feels bad since he has to sit alone without any other EDA support. Good luck burkeman. We see Steve in the lobby, and request Pile on The Hangover since Liz has had it in her head all day. "Sure, thanks for all the support." Bibi comes along and we chat awhile. BIBI: Yeah, those guys on the crew bus are pretty crazy. I'm on the juice bus. SHELLY: Really? BIBI: I'm on the Christian bus. - --read the details & setlist of the show in the stellar (pre)conclusion to our story, THE ODYSSEY (part quatro).-- - --------------------------------------------------- Tim Burke tburke@mail.heidelberg.edu "Excuse me while I get drunk from watching too much bad TV"- Jewel "You're too young to drink alcohol."- Steve Poltz - --------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Mar 97 00:08:44 EST From: Burkeman Subject: THE ODYSSEY (part 2) (2/5) We pick up the story with our heroes in their seats ready for the Rugburns to arrive on stage. Umm, yeah sure or something. A security guard (nice guy, actually) gives us Steve's guitar pick. Jewel comes on stage in all black... here's the setlist info. 1. Near You Always 2. Enter From The East 3. Morning Song 4. Too Darn Hot (Cole Porter) She has everyone snapping their fingers for this one. 5. ABCD (All of the Above) 6. A Very Big Girl 7. Little Sister 8. Fish Family 9. Grey Matter A new song, she says. We disagree. 10. I'm Sensitive 11. Foolish Games I'm sorry, this is a tremendous duet with John Hagen on cello. Too bad someone in back found this humorous, laughing during silent breaks in the song. 12. YWMFM 13. Adrian More laughing. rrrrgh. 14. You're In Cleveland Today We think this is a mistake at first... did she forget where she was? Then we realize this is actually a song.. and that the Rugburns play a lot of shows in Cleveland. There's something about this song that isn't in any of her songs.. the mood is really amazing. 15. Run Tonto Run She lost her pick twice during this song, either that or she drops them on purpose (after Detroit I'm beginning to thing the latter.) Crew member brings out a bunch more after the song, nevertheless. 16. Down Once again prefaced, "I just wrote this song & I don't have any words yet, I'll make them up." This song kicks arse, to be British. A lot tighter than when played in Cleveland, they rehearsed it a bunch in soundcheck. 17. Deep Water I love this song.. why does she have to take away the personal feeling by playing it with the band? 18. Just Passing Time 19. Somewhere Over The Rainbow She asked for requests, heard this and began singing it. Breathtaking but some uninformed souls yelled "Itsy Bitsy Spider" etc during it. When there was silence... undescribably beautiful. 20. Fragile Flame She must *REALLY* like this song, playing it so often. "This is a eulogy for Edward. I hope he hears it." I'm sure he has, by now. (Please don't get me wrong. This is a very pretty song.) 21. Old Lover's House 22. Life's A Great Big Mystery Show 23. Emily "How do you know Emily? Oh, that old guy Charlie Rose." Same story as in Cleveland... she really respects him. 24. Angel Standing By 25. Chime Bells Included second verse. - -- 26. WWSYS Dancing girls come down aisles and block our view. Liz threatens them with death by "I am loved" button and they back off. 27. Amen Things began to get interesting for our heroes. John brushes by, out to the lobby where the three Rugburns are signing autographs. We wait patiently, as the crowd now knows these guys 'oh so well.' Eventually everyone is gone except for us and the Rugburns. I give Steve a tape of my 'interview' with Jewel, we promises to listen to it 'esta noche.' Steve shows the fact that he wore the boxers Liz bought for him. There is truly nothing like having all three of them in a conversation. We give them our undying gratitude for honoring our requests.. we hear a security guard say, "She's already on the way to Detroit." Whoops, she must have forgotten Steve. We're calling bulls*** on that one. Meanwhile, outside the bus there is a small crowd, from our perspective at least. All people who want Jewel to autograph something. Bastards. Oh wait, that's me. Shelly and Stinky... --Stay tuned to part (de)Troit to hear about our adventures with Stinky!-- - --------------------------------------------------- Tim Burke tburke@mail.heidelberg.edu "Excuse me while I get drunk from watching too much bad TV"- Jewel "You're too young to drink alcohol."- Steve Poltz - --------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Mar 97 00:09:04 EST From: Burkeman Subject: THE ODYSSEY (part E) (5/5) Finally, Liz, Shelly, and Tim wind up their journey and pull on their heartstrings... Each Rugburn is again mobbed after the show. We wait around awhile talking with Stinky. Stinky finds it important to sign my EDA poster "Tim, I think I love you. But don't let anyone know okay." I direct reply to Jewel's simple "Tim- Love, Jewel." The thing it, Stinky's signature is a scribble. So people who see the poster and don't get the story behind it think Jewel and I are having an affair or something. Sheesh! We approach Steve to say our goodbyes. Shelly, and then Liz, kiss him, apparently he has mushy lips (a handshake was good enough for me.) Oh well. He again thanks us for coming to see them, and he can't wait to see us again. No, he hasn't listened to the tape but he's going to put it on in the bus because Stinky's been talking about it so much. Stinky and Shelly have a touching goodbye, but it's only for a short time. John chases us down to thank us for coming, well thank you John for being so cool with us. We've gotten plenty of comments by now of how do we know the Rugburns, etc. It can only be explained by Stinky's comment in one of our first conversations... "perseverance." On the way out we say goodbye to Bibi, thanks for chatting with us. She really made this weekend enjoyable. And so we left the State Theatre, Dan and Mia in tow, looking back upon our weekend. For some reason, there was a long line of people outside the theatre. These people wanted to meet Jewel or something. Sorry for them. Actually, if they ever did get to see her, good for them. We were saying goodbye to Mia and Dan (thanks again for making it a great weekend guys, Mia it's been three great shows and Dan, wow I can't say enough. This guy has held our tickets to paradise. And I can't even speak for Mia. Thank you, thank you, thank you Dan.) And we drove away, reflecting upon the night, the weekend, and longing for the days when we would all experience it again. Once again, Liz and Shelly provided their home for the night. Here's where I thank them. Since I joined the list in December, I have incurred such a debt to these young women. I don't want to cliche or anything, but with the help of Liz, Shelly, and all the other EDAs I have been made to feel so welcome, in these my first three concerts. All the favors, all the stupid questions, (comments?), Shelly and Liz are very very special. As we all are. Never forget: we are everyday angles. At least Steve Poltz says so. - -tim 'burkeman' - --------------------------------------------------- Tim Burke tburke@mail.heidelberg.edu "Excuse me while I get drunk from watching too much bad TV"- Jewel "You're too young to drink alcohol."- Steve Poltz - --------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Mar 97 00:08:57 EST From: Burkeman Subject: THE ODYSSEY (part quatro) (4/5) This was supposed to be the conclusion, I'm nearing 7K so it's the pre-conclusion.... There was much more to the Bibi conversation, trust me. I didn't exactly write it down word for word, but she was really being funny. We all love Bibi, future concert goers, she has frizzy brown hair, and these shoes with tan rubber bottoms. She can be found around the merchandise tables, talk to her, she's very nice. The Rugburns come to the stage. (Setlists by Liz, thank you for filling my shoes as I served as host EDA to the stage, a lot of responsibility! All quotes are from memory, therefore not exact at all.) 1. Take Me Home 2. Pile On The Hangover Thank you Steve! 3. Wanna learn about love 4. Crazy Crazy World STEVE: (points to me) Let me see that. I hand him an EDA poster, he shows it to everyone. "Jewel has these people who follow her around..." Once again he tells me, ME, what their email addy is. STEVE, I ALREADY KNOW. "Everyday Angles. This next song Jewel & I wrote together..." 5. Impala TIM: Steve, play the ABC song! STEVE: Uh, okay! 6. The ABCs of Love "Don't even know que hora es, when you're tainted by the Detroit Tigers." Drum solo before this one, Stinky playing on Steve's shoes & guitar, to name a few things. 7. Lockjaw 8. The Detroit Song Afterward, Steve said it was one of the best city songs they've made up. In french, pronounced Detrois. Or Day-twah. Steve has the crowd sing along: La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la Deh-tois! 9. Now's not the right time for love Cause I'm busy chasing Jewel in Alaska. Actually, Steve didn't sing that line tonight, leaving us *very* disappointed. Glad to hear this song, though. 10. I'm gonna UPS my heart, next day, to you The Rugburns come out into the theatre right after their set. Of course, now people are flocking to them. I ask the question, why do girls wear glitter on their face? It remains unanswered, one of many questions left in the dust of our whirlwind tour. One by one, the Rugburns make it over to where Liz, Shelly, and I are standing to talk to us. That's right, we didn't have to go to them, they came to us. We thank them for playing our requests, they thank us for the support. The lights go down. Jewel's set: (thanks to Liz and Rebecca for enhancing my memory) 1. Near You Always JEWEL: If you're talking, shut up! 2. Morning Song 3. Cold Song I would like to see polka become big again. I'm from Henry County Ohio which is one of the polka capitals of the USA. Our main summer social activities are Polkafests, where performers like the Bavarian Brass, Marv Herzog, Annie's Polka band, etc. perform. 4. Little Sister 5. Sometimes It Be That Way We hadn't gotten to hear this song yet on the tour. 6. Foolish Games DRUNK SOB: Yummy! JEWEL: (nothing, flips him off) 7. You were meant for me Jewel & Steve have gotten progressively closer each night. Tonight their noses are touching, in fact Jewel's nose was slightly pushed in by Steve's. (ah, what a seat!) Afterward, in the dark, a sweet little kiss. 8. Adrian It's amazing how much emotion is in her eyes. I never noticed that. Setlist says, Bastard. Oh yes. JEWEL: Oh Adrian, come out and play. DRUNK SOB #2: I'll play with you Jewel! 9. You're in Cleveland Today TIM: Play Jessica! JEWEL: Oh wow, I don't think I remember that song. TIM: It'll come back to you! JEWEL: No really, I don't think I can remember it. Sorry. 10. Run Tonto Run SOMEBODY W/ JET LAG OR SOMETHING: Happy St. Patricks Day Jewel. JEWEL: Is it St. Patricks Day? EVERYBODY: It's tomorrow! JEWEL: Then what are you so excited about? 11. Deep Water w/band, why why why? I actually motioned for John to get off the stage. He thought maybe his fly was down or something. 12. Just Passing Time 13. Fragile Flame 14. Old Lover's House 15. Race Car Driver I'm too sexy reference again. JEWEL: What do you guys want to hear? DRUNK SOB #3: I love you Jewel! JEWEL: Enough Bud Light for that guy. LIZ, SHELLY, TIM: 1,000 Miles! JEWEL: 1,000 Miles? ALL EDAs: Yeah! WEIRD GUY SITTING BEHIND ME: Morning Song! (apparently missed it the first time she played it.) JEWEL: The poem song? Did you say the poem song? (looking at me) TIM: uhh... (feels very very alone, got Innerchange Days Wednesday and has only listened to it twice, looks for Liz & Shelly) JEWEL: Do you have the words to that song? TIM: I think Liz does. (hopes Liz does.) JEWEL: Could you give them to me? I lost them or something. All because she misunderstood a request for a song already played. JEWEL: This song is called Carnivore. TIM: (quietly) Actually it's called Never Trust Your Pink... JEWEL: (glance at Tim, still not sure if it was a dirty look) 16. Carnivore JEWEL: Did you see me at the Grammys? Jewel proceeds to do a Celine Dion impersonation. (Why didn't she sing All By Myself?) THEN does a lengthy Toni Braxton one. Feeling herself and singing Unbreak My Heart. It one one of the comedic highlights of my life. Besides abandoning my masculinity while seeing Jewel right above me feeling herself. (I swear, I didn't even realize it until afterward.) Self-mockery. 17. Angel Standing By 18. (not in the setlist but we'll cut Liz a break.) Chime Bells Cut short. - -- 19. WWSYS 20. Amen A short set. She seemed tired & I don't blame her. As Bibi said, they have a long drive ahead, which means lots of time to sleep. You could read it on her face the whole show; she wanted to get out of there. --Read the touching conclusion to our story in THE ODYSSEY (part E).-- - --------------------------------------------------- Tim Burke tburke@mail.heidelberg.edu "Excuse me while I get drunk from watching too much bad TV"- Jewel "You're too young to drink alcohol."- Steve Poltz - --------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #196 ***************************
