I believe that any discussion of non-christian faiths is tainted by a millenium of zealous christian indoctrination (and may I say, brainwashing). Our society is based on the christain 'religon' and so, has ruthlessly held that anything else is 'pagan', and consequently marketed 'pagan' as evil. In my opinion, that is a serious error. All faiths are essentially identical. Each gives a method of life for spiritual fullfillment. The specifics are inconsequential, except when used to massacre or govern. To each their own, what works for one soul may certainly not work for another. Whichever faith makes the most sense in each individual person's life is the one that they should follow, as long as it is based in experiencial evidence and not blind following. =| That said, I move on. Ashe Mayfair wrote: > seen that way by all. Really angels could been seen (as I offten think of > them) just as mythical beings. Just like the vampire it a myth (not that > I'm compairing the two tho :]). So even if you don't belive in God it is > still possiable to belive in angels. Wiccans do believe in god. Merely not the Christian 'God'. The Wiccan god is all inclusive, it is all of Nature in harmony working to better itself. In Wicca, god is not an entity that rules, but an energy that lives and guides, quite similar to what christains believe the Holy Spirit is. Their are similarities to parallel the God the Father figure, though in Wicca, it is a female force. Simarily, Jesus, and all the ritual around being saved, can be likened to Wiccan cleansing rites. =) I do not boast to be Wiccan, nor even to have extensive knowledge about it. But I do know those that are and do. I have tremendous respect for Wiccan teachings. They are driven by a want for peace and a community with Nature. I doubt that Jewel is Wiccan, but Wiccan philosophy closely parallels the things that Jewel teaches and believes. Jewel is very nature oriented, and trusts that peace is possible with a little work and faith. She believes in community and the power of striving for righteousness in everyday life. Then James wrote: > When you put it that way, I could agree :-) Some pagans even see the four > archangels as the Quarters (directions; NSEW). =) As I said, most walks of faith hold extremely close relations. The fault and violence generates when one holds itself above another and seeks to destroy the other. All religons and faiths hold keys to inner peace. True heaven/nirvana will be attained when they all begin to work together. =) I realize that some of what I say here may be offensive to some. This is a spiritual discussion, and that happens. We are talking about what drives us and makes life possible. Each person is naturally defensive about that. Spiritual growth requires that we overcome that defensiveness and open our minds and souls. If we can't we are no longer growing and so, must die. Please use the same thoughtfulness and care that I have used with my words. We are all correct in our beliefs. A spiritual discussion is merely and explaining of ourselves! =) =) Be an Angel Every Day! =) Crunch! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Mar 1997 01:54:27 -0500 From: Crunch Subject: NJC: My Temporary Absence =) I would rather not post this to the list, but it is the easiest way to reach most of the friends I correspond with. Let me take you Down. Down." or something like that. I am willing to make copies as school time allows. Bothshows include interviews with the angel, and she isn't asked to yodel in either,(oh just remembered the other is the Jon Stewert interview). Um, I thought the interviews were better than the normal Alaska, car home, yodel, interviews, one is 5 minuets, the other is ten. I also need to share this with everyone, I think I have converted my dad into a Jewel fan....He is 80, and thinks music died around 1950. However after hearing Jewel played endlessly by me, I think he is changing. He had to go to the bank when I was reviewing the interviews and tonite he ask me if he missed anything good....he made me replay both segments just so that he didn't miss anything. John-Eric is right -- a person's quotes of conversation are not covered by copyright. They are in the public domain. There's a book publisher in Vancouver that has published an entire series of miniature books of various people's quotes and no legal permission was required for anything. There should be no legal impediment at all to using any quotes that Jewel has given in interviews -- eg. "your hands manifest thought". Song lyrics and the written narrative or textual content of a magazine article (if it is distinctive, and not just generic filler) are covered by copyright. But the " " quotes of a public figure are not. Someone in an earlier post used the word courtesy -- and that's really the issue that would apply here. It would be ideal to ask Jewel's permission out of courtesy and respect -- and not because of any legal requirement (that, in fact, doesn't exist). Only if Jewel thinks it's cool, would it be. The Wicca thread had me thinking that there's more of the Buddha's message present than some other elements. How about this quote (non-copyright-able) from the Buddha: "We are what we think. New York - 3/2/97 - Beacon Theater i met rob and tammy after a screw up at the metuchen train station. we figured it wouldn't be so bad since there was another train set to come. well, the next one didn't come for another half hour. oops. well, we were a bit late for the EDA dinner at the mad fish that rob and tammy had set up. oh well. :) we finally got there to find some EDAs already there. they were: larry, his kids nicole and daniel, jennifer yecko, stacey murphy and her two friends, and amy. and shortly afterwards, jon reade and his friend, anthony amato and renee, and jared and thirza showed up. our bill came to $369, and mike connel picked up the tab. just kidding. :) then we headed down to the beacon. pretty much hung around. larry saw bob. i bought a t-shirt. after a while, it was time for the show to start, so we headed in. rugburns were awesome. i had only previously heard them from the jewel/rugburns compilation tape i heard at lizstock, which i liked. so i looked foreward to seeing them perform. unfortunately, the crowd was a bit loud, and i had a premonition that they'd be that way the whole night. damn premonitions. yes, the crowd sucked ass. i'm not going to say much, but i felt terrible. midway through the show, i knew that i was witnessing the worse jewel show i have ever seen. it was a combination of the crowd's unruliness and her sore throat, which got worse during the show. *sigh* after the show, i gathered my things while waiting for the crowd to disperse. stacey and her friends saw me, and i beckoned them to wait out the crowds with me. after the crowds were thinning out, i looked over to where thirza had gotten the block of seats for other EDAs, and i saw lenedra! woo hoo! i ran over to the group. i whipped out my 8x10 picture of lenedra and i from jewelstock, a silver pen, and asked her to sign it. that was awesome. and stacey whipped out her camera to get a picture of her and her friends with lenedra that i took. then lenedra had to go, and we left for the lobby. in the lobby, the rugburns were signing autographs. there were girls all over them. i was a bit surprised. well, after getting desired autographs, being wisked out of the beacon, and stacey's father arriving to pick her up, we went to the side of the beacon, where a large throng of people were gathered hoping to see jewel. well, deciding that we weren't going to see her, and finding out the jennifer had a pass to the Z100 post-concert party, we decided to go there to see how many people could get in with a pass for only two people. rob, tammy, jen, and i got in while jared, thirza, and amy were left outside. sorry guys. but i got to meet jewel again, got my 8x10 of she and i at jewelstock signed, and got that birthday message recorded. i also snagged the Hits cover promo off the wall. then rob, tammy, amy, and i headed to penn station where amy took the path home and we waited for our train, while being amused by the drunk girl. got back to metuchen and since it was quite late by that time, i thanked rob and tammy and we said our goodbyes. eric :) - -- Crash Boy's EDA Page --- http://members.aol.com/boycrash/crashboy.htm ############################# Notice: This message was found in a dead-letter box and appears to be for you. I am somewhat new to all this stuff and he is very knowledgable about these types of things. While he is very intelligent he never seemed to be the type of person to pull something over on someone(like me). Well, he showed me what to do (or at least I thought he did) and I mailed it to the list. When eight o'clock rolled around I realized what he did. So, if you read the message I am speaking of and realize it is wrong, you know why. The story is quite tragic, and I feel awful for the poor guy, but the story is just plain utterly halirious. So enjoy: Brick Accident Dear Sir: I am writing in response to your request for additional information in Block #3 of the accident reporting form. I put "Poor Planning" as the cause of my accident. You asked for a fuller explanation and I trust the following details will be sufficient. I am a bricklayer by trade. On the day of the accident, I was working alone on the roof of a new six-storey building. When I completed my work, I found I had some bricks left over which when weighed later were found to weigh 240 lbs. Rather than carry the bricks down by hand, I decided to lower them in a barrel by using a pulley which was attached to the side of the building at the sixth floor. Securing the rope at ground level, I went up to the roof, swung the barrel out and loaded the bricks into it. Then I went down and untied the rope, holding it tightly to insure a slow descent of the 240 lbs of bricks. You will note on the accident reporting form that my weight is 135 lbs. Due to my surprise at being jerked off the ground so suddenly, I lost my presence of mind and forgot to let go of the rope. Needless to say, I proceeded at a rapid rate up the side of the building. In the vicinity of the third floor, I met the barrel which was now proceeding downward at an equally impressive speed. This explains the fractured skull, minor abrasions and the broken collarbone, as listed in Section 3, accident reporting form. Slowed only slightly, I continued my rapid ascent, not stopping until the fingers of my right hand were two knuckles deep into the pulley which I mentioned in Paragraph 2 of this correspondence. Fortunately by this time I had regained my presence of mind and was able to hold tightly to the rope, in spite of the excruciating pain I was now beginning to experience. At approximately the same time, however, the barrel of bricks hit the ground-and the bottom fell out of the barrel. Now devoid of the weight of the bricks, the barrel weighed approximately 50 lbs. I refer you again to my weight. As you might imagine, I began a rapid descent down the side of the building. In the vicinity of the third floor, I met the barrel coming up. This accounts for the two fractured ankles, broken tooth and severe lacerations of my legs and lower body. Here my luck began to change slightly. The encounter with the barrel seemed to slow me enough to lessen my injuries when I fell into the pile of bricks and fortunately only three vertebrae were cracked. I am sorry to report, however, as I lay there on the pile of bricks, in pain, unable to move and watching the empty barrel six stories above me, I again lost my composure and presence of mind and let go of the rope. - -------------------------|------------------------- Demian Blair, Acme Design Co., Inc.
