New York - 3/3/97 - Beacon Theater laura got to my house around 4:45, and we headed to the elizabeth train station to catch the 5pm train. got to penn station, had dinner at roy rogers (oooooh), and took the train uptown to 72nd. we had time before the concert, so we walked down to tower records in the snow and rain just so i could get the new deborah gibson cd (it's awesome guys :) finally got to the beacon where we ran into cj david. hadn't seen her since the temple show. it was pretty cool to see her again. we hung around for a bit in the lobby, but didn't see anyone for a while, so we went back to our seats. soon, we saw jared, russ, and steve. we talked for a while, then the lights dimmed for the rugburns. they were awesome again, and the crowd seemed to like them better than the day before. the crowd was filled more with teeny boppers, but they were more respectful than the bastards the night before. i think that jewel could feel it, too, cause she came out to sing 'old lover's house' with them, which she hadn't done the night before. during the intermission, jared, russ, steve, laura, and i met each other in the lobby again and ran into kathy and bryan (they were both at the show the previous night), and anthony amato and a friend of his, whose name escapes me. someone mentioned that sean hooks had posted where he was going to be sitting, so we all went down there to meet him. i made introductions to everyone. i think he was surprised to see so many people just meet him like that. well, we went back to our seats and enjoyed a much better jewel show than the night before. the crowd listened for the most part, but it was still loud. jewel's voice sounded a LOT better than the night before, and she played for longer, too. steve even sang 'silver lining' with her. and at the end, she yodelled, despite still having a sore throat, according to her. after the concert, the rugburns were signing again. the night before, i asked told john "i hear you like rachel's cookies," to which he responded, "yeah, they rock!" well, on monday night, i told him that i'd bring him a batch, provided i could get rachel's recipe, and he said that would be cool. then a whole bunch of us waited outside FOREVER at the side of the beacon. at one point, jewel stuck her head out of a second floor window and waived to us, to everyone's delight. but it wasn't enough, and people yelled "JEWEL! JEWEL!" i had a bright idea (yeah, right) of singing a song. so i started signing 'i'm sensitive', and lots of people in the area joined in. we got as far as the end of the second verse, when some girls near the door decided to break out into YWMFM, and they drowned us out, so we joined in with them. and they thought actual new yorkers were weird. jewel fans in new york and weirder. :) we pretty much roamed all over the place looking for a possible exit point of jewel. some of us hung around the front, and after a while, decided to go catch the subway back to penn station since it seemed hopeless. well, bryan, kathy, laura and i were waiting on the subway platform for the train, when two non-EDAs showed up who were waiting with us in the front of the beacon. "Man, you should've waited 10 more minutes!" he said. ack! 10 more minutes and we could've met jewel again. dammit. oh well. so we got back to penn station and had some pizza while waiting for bryan and kathy's train. it arrived and we said our goodbyes. laura walked over to where our trains were and found that had arrived, too, so we got on and went home. eric :) - -- Crash Boy's EDA Page --- http://members.aol.com/boycrash/crashboy.htm ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Mar 1997 14:59:41 -0800 (PST) From: Raymond Wong Subject: Re: Question: HITS magazine (help!!!) I hope to have the time to put these together with my other Jewel videos....Leno twice, Letterman once, WWSYS video, and I think something else (my brain is fried from mid terms and spring break odd jobs that demand my attention). I am willing to make copies as school time allows. Bothshows include interviews with the angel, and she isn't asked to yodel in either,(oh just remembered the other is the Jon Stewert interview). Um, I thought the interviews were better than the normal Alaska, car home, yodel, interviews, one is 5 minuets, the other is ten. Jewel also does the most incredible version of YWMFM I have heard yet. I would be willing to share this with any video tree that may be out there. I also need to share this with everyone, I think I have converted my dad into a Jewel fan....He is 80, and thinks music died around 1950. However after hearing Jewel played endlessly by me, I think he is changing. He had to go to the bank when I was reviewing the interviews and tonite he ask me if he missed anything good....he made me replay both segments just so that he didn't miss anything. And about that chat... I didn't see what happened in the room/channel, but from the questions&answers I did see, it appears there was quite a lot of interest from non-EDAs, or perhaps I should say "potential-EDAs". Jewel goes out and does interviews, chats, promos and such for the sake of the people who don't know about her -- as well she should. Jewel also performed a song that she had written that morning. It was a veritable rock song in the tradition of Live, the band from PA. She didn't even have words down for it, so she made them up as she went along and did a fine job of it. The chorus went something like "Let me take you there. Let me take you there. Let me take you Down. Down." or something like that. She took John Hagen, John castro and stinky through the verses and chorus and bridge and chord changes, calling it out ("a minor" "one more" "repeat it again") and they all stuck together remarkably well. Well, I do stand (er...sit, partially corrected) While Majordomo (the software system that runs this list) DOES send out that information with every Email, apparently some Email programs unfortunately do NOT allow the reciever to see this info. MOST do, but some do not. :( So, as part of an ongoing project to make this list better, anyone who has such an Email system that does NOT display this info from an Email thru the list, please Email me PRIVATELY and tell me what your Email software/program/system is. I'll include this info in my notes and "mailing list guide" web page for future reference. Look now if > you don't believe me....I'll wait. :) At the risk of making you look foolish (oh, wait, I can't possibly do that!).... I removed the X-To-Unsubscribe headers a while ago because no one was looking at them and the only thing they were doing was taking up more space in the archives.
