From: Mike Byrns Subject: RE:SJC: Jewel on Leno W/Hands To: David Beery Reply-To: Mike Byrns I've a friend that was from Illinois that moved to AK. He has a more physical approach to life now. He expresses more than I remember. I cannot remember him gesticulating in the way he does now before he came back. Not that AK is the reason but maybe silence and solitude that are prevalent there made him and our Angel do the same. Maybe it's just the time we all need to really think and feel again. People who live close together tend to be less expressive, it's dangerous. Perhaps expression itself is. Could you forward this to the list please? Im computer illiterate and cant find out how to. All right everyone, This is Mike and most of youl know by now that I am trying to gather all the EDA's at the Second City Comedy Club before the concert. The show starts at 7:30 so I would love to have some time to talk with you before we go into the show, especially the legendary LIZ. So here is the deal. Everyone meet at Second City between 6-6:30. I will be there hanging out. When you walk in find the circle bar which is on the right side of the lobby. I am not sure who will be bartending that night since I am going to the concert, but none the less. Talk to the bartender and ask them where Mike is. They will tell you and we can finally meet. For all those who don't know where Second City is I will tell you. It is on Woodward next to the Fox Theater. The State Theater is also on Woodward, but on the other side of the Fox. There is a secured parking garage behind Second City and I think parking is only $1 right now. If you need better directions email and EDA's I will talk to you all soon. If it comes on the radio, change the station. I don't expect you to skip the video becaue I could never skip seeing Jewel, but don't let Foolish Games get thrown in your face like YWMFM has lately. It holds so much passion and intensity for me that it makes me cry. Because I have such feelings about this song it is very personal to me. I know I have no claim to this song but the emotion attached with it makes me feel like it is mine in some way and that it should be shared only with people that are capable/willing to let it touch them. When something like this is on every radio station and MTV I feel like it has been taken away from me and sterilized. Kinda like the as****** that scream take it off. They seem to have a way of defiling it. Any comments or questions would be appreciated. For instance, everyone on the Jewel Web Ring will have a graphic with "Next" and "Previous" buttons which allow a user to go to the "Next" or "Previous" Jewel Web Site. The way that this works is that the server keeps a list of valid sites and the sites link to the server with an ID #. Once the ID # is accessed, the server responds and tells the user's web browser where to go. Jewel sang every song I was hoping she would, even Emily (my name).....I was quite ecstatic during this song, because it was the first time I heard her sing it live!! I was surprised, but pleased that she sang a lot of material not on POY..... quite a few of which I had never heard live before....I was also suprised but HAPPY to hear her sing "Sometimes It Be That Way" (one of my favorites!). Every song she sang sounded wonderful, and she lived up to every expectation I had walking into the show. I just can't say enough about it! The entire night was completely spiritual, and almost magical for me. Seeing Jewel live is an experience that, for me, is even beyond words. I only wish she'd be playing somewhere closer again soon....I'm considering going to the Washington, DC show tomorrow night---a 4-5 hour drive for me! (Does anyone know if tix are still available for that show?) Anyway, after the show I was amongst a LARGE group of people waiting for Jewel to board her bus. I waited almost an hour in the snowstorm, but then had to leave because it was getting really late, and the people I went to the show with had to get up early for work. (Did anyone else stick around long enough to see her??) I did have the honor of meeting Steve Poltz--I was so excited!!! He autographed my ticket, and invited a few of us to come inside to the bar with him and the rest of the band---- unfortunately, I'm not quite 21! Oh well....I also met stinky (the drummer), and the bass player (I forget his name). The Rugburns seem like a really cool, down-to-earth band. I'm heading to Circuit City to buy their Cd's (I think they have 3?) tonight! This is becoming much longer then I had expected, so I'm going to end this post now. Just wanted to fill you guys in on my wonderful night!!! I hope all of you EDA's out there get a chance to see Jewel live....it is an experience unlike any other! If you think you like Jewel now.....wait till you have the pleasure of seeing her perform live----you'll love her 10 times more!!! If anyone taped the show at The Tower last night and it came out decent, I'd love a copy of it. If you want, I'm willing to trade. I made a decent tape at her show at the Theatre of Living Arts last May. PLEASE let me know! (If you want, email me privately...hess7562@kutztown.edu) THANKS!!! I really enjoyed meeting all of you even though I didnt talk very much. Im shy :) Our seats were 4 rows back from the front of the balcony. They weren't bad seats but they weren't where I would have liked to sit. But if I had my way I would have been up on the stage with her :) The show was spectacular. I started to cry during Adrian, Emily, Angel Standing By, and Amen. I felt like such a dork crying but they really touched me. I wasnt only crying because they were such beautiful songs but also because I couldnt believe i was actually there. It was like a dream to me and I still don't believe it. I really liked the way she handled the person yelling out "Yodel" in the begining. I never really understood how much of an agels she was untill last night. After the concert my dad told me I could wait for her to come out. We waited untill 11:45. In the freezing temperatures and in the snow. We never got to see her because some cop came and said that if we didnt leave we were going to be locked up. I was right up in the front too. If she had come out I would have only been a foot away. My dad enjoyed her show so much he went out and bought the tape so he can listen to it in the car. Well I gotta go. ~Tiffany~ P.S. Hope to see you all again at another show :) And Im sorry to hear you didnt have a good time Salena (hope thats how you spell it) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Mar 1997 15:31:51 -0600 (CST) From: asset.moo@mail.utexas.edu (tessa) Subject: Re: jewel-digest V2 #171 > >hey guys, did anyone else here the Rick Dees top 40 countdown? i thought >it was wierd cuz after they played YWMFM, they read a letter someone >sent to them asking if Jewel's breasts were real or not. and then they >confirmed that they were 100% real. please don't think i'm perverted, >i'm just repeating what THEY said. i just thought it was wierd that they >discussed her breasts out of all things. but this goes to show you that >there's nothing fake about jewel....*feeble attempt at comic relief* > >Cricket Hahahha! Am I just >overreacting?? Please let me know what you think...... Hi. Ok I have dealt with some obscene email and IRC stalkers... I know you feel horrible for acting upon one obscene email, or comment, but I found that if you let it go, it just gets worse... I tried to say look this was not appropriate, and I warned him that I would seek action (although I hadnt planned on him pursuing this further) It went on for a few more days, so I emailed the server, and he was warned... I recieved another email calling me various choice words, and mad that I would bring the server administration in on this... so I emailed them again, adn they said that he had his warning, he would be cut off. It stopped... I was relieved. I know it feels horrible to do this to someone, and the internet is a luxury and shoudl be enjoyed by all, but some people need to have their eyes opened I guess... I still feel bad, but in the long run, I havent had any more problems and your safety is #1 above all. Thia is just what happened to me, take your own actions, but please be careful. 0:c ) Tessa the little }}angel{{ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Mar 1997 15:59:26 -0600 From: dreeland@shrike.depaul.edu Subject: Re: VERY IMPORTANT!!!! im not sure how to do it with the provider you have but i can get it thru my IRC client...if you want more info go to mtv online and check out the arena...its www.mtv.com sorry for those who dont have it figured out...i dunno how it works ...sorry...:( Dan At 01:51 PM 3/10/97 -0000, you wrote: >HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
