I would like to say hi to all the angels out there My name is Wojtek Kowalewski and this is my first time writting a message, and I am a new member of this wonderful list. From what I've read so far, there seems to be a lot of wonderful people out there ( but then again I didn't expect anything less from Jewel Fans). I just found out about the new release date of the new album, and was totaly dissapointed, but i regained my happiness when I found out that Jewel concert tickets go on sale tomorrow for the Toronto Canada show. i will have to skip a couple of classes to get good seats, but I think it's worth it. If there is any one else who is going to that show, let me know maybe we could meet. Well I don't want to keep this message to long. In closing: I look forward to more times as an EDA, and hope to mett a lot of cool people. If there is anything you want to ask me, please don't hesitate to write me. see ya later Wojtek (Woj) Kowalewski wojtekk@spanit.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Feb 1997 23:53:56 -0500 From: Dan Stark Subject: Cash in your Max points Some of you branches, leaves, and other forest-dwellers might like to know that TDK is taking your Max points. I wish I could email you all cigars, oh but wait, that's only if she had a boy. Oh well, my poor sister was in labor all day. She said this was worse than the other two. I can just see Jewel going off for a couple of hours during that song to tell little anecdotes about how she threw Fritzs' trash away on Thanksgiving and got arrested! Or her almost stint in the Army. Maybe she'll do a movie. Man the more I think about it the more I wish there was a big story behind it! "It doesn't matter, if your poor, at Fritz's Creek Store!" I had been "surfing" once or twice before, but I was especially excited this time because I would now have the opportunity to see all the old Jewel sites I remembered and loved so well. Zenomorph's was particularly impressive as I knew it would be. During my romp through the Jewel sites I came across one I hadn't seen the last time. It was the EDA yearbook, complete with bio's and pictures of some of these great people I had conversed with. (Sadly it contained nothing of Igor, but I did learn a tad more about Fuzzy) I decided it was my duty to sign it and I proceeded to do so, however as each question and comment passed I realized with more and more abundance that this will be, in fact, my only opportunity to do this. This will be the only thing available to the EDA's to accurately describe my character, and I only had one chance to get it right. Moving forward in the sign-in I reached a portion that very bluntly asked me to add "other comments". This was indeed what I had dreaded. What in the world could I possibly say to sum up my experience here? Something timeless and inspiring, yet short? Something flowery and positive, yet practical? Something in depth and descriptive, yet leave my anonymity? I pondered and pondered and finally realized there was no such "quick thought". It would take me as long to explain my experience with Jewel or explain myself, as it did to experience these things the first time. I can't within any realm of possibility sum up the things that make me what I am or why I love Jewel's music so much. This is presumably because of the incredible indepthness involved with Jewels' work, and my own life. After all it took me my whole existence on earth to achieve what I am today, and it took Jewel her whole life to create and relay herself through her music. Shouldn't we give the people that have yet to experience the splendor we have only begun to taste that is Jewel? Wouldn't it be selfish to keep only for ourselves, that which isn't really ours to begin with? And if we were to have others experience that which we enjoy and to this day still ponder over, wouldn't it be only prudent to give them as much time as we had, to appreciate her? In a perfect world everyone knows who Jewel is and respects her music. Only in a perfect world. I would imagine I will be listening to her album years from now and still be smiling at the amazing simplicity of how she describes the undescribable. And I'll still say to myself "How'd she know that -So- well?" In a perfect world everyone would ask that question. Only in a perfect world. Till then, maybe it's not a bad idea to let people catch a wif of our Jewel. After all the money is spent, what will really matter? Jewels impact on the public? I hope so, if they listen. Alright so Igor I'm not. As a matter of fact that was a pretty lame impression. I hope I didn't unintentionally insult poor Igor. For those of you that might wonder what I said in my Comments box on the yearbook, well, I wish I could have said something else, but isn't that always the way? "Jewel knows what she is doing. People should take that lead." I don't want people to think that I'm unrealistic and am putting Jewel on a platform of perfection. To me Jewel is a metaphor for honesty and integrity and strength, but I realize the difference between the metaphor and the reality. Of course no one in their right mind would think of that when they read my "comment", but I'm hopeful. Perhaps if I could've worded it better... perhaps if I were really Igor... perhaps if I got more sleep... -Bruce "it's still a baby!!" bhartford3rd@juno.com P.S. I've never pretended to be smart and I have no intention of starting now. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Feb 1997 00:36:01 -0500 (EST) From: Russell Rivera Subject: Sellout and New Album: JC or NJC? Excuse me for not knowing whether it's JC or not, but I'm kinda new to the list (Jan. 10 or so) I think that in some ways Jewel has sold out. This does not mean that her music will stop being meaningful to me or that I will stop supporting her. IMHO, she has allowed the album delay. Why? She fought for the Rugburns (whom I have never heard) to open for her on her tour. Why couldn't she fight for the album to be put out in July. April would be too early with YWMFM doing so well. Other groups have released singles shortly before allowing a new album to come out. Why not release FG or NYA now and when they start to decline, most likely during the summer, release the new album? Hootie and the Blowfish did this with their single, "Time". The song was released as a single, and shortly after, their second album came out. It is true that the second album has not done as well, but it is hard to top the second-best selling debut album of all-time in sales. I have had PoY for only about five months, but I had a copy of most of it on tape beginning about a year and a half ago. I would like to hear more Jewel music as my knowledge is limited to PoY. Any advice any of my fellow EDAs would be willing to give me would be appreciated. I really would like to hear a second release (album or EP or otherwise) as soon as possible, as I really do believe that we may miss part of Jewel's development as a singer if we don't. I apologize to those of you who didn't quite understand what I have been thinking and/or writing, and congratulate and thank those of you who have made it this far.
