Or not having to do something you would like to do. Moving into her car was an expression of freedom -- that she was going to "do what [she] loved or die trying." But it wasn't complete freedom, there were a lot of things she had to sacrifice. Now she's in a position that gives her freedom -- not so much the freedom not to have to live in her car, but the freedom to live the way she wants which apparently includes brief sojourns in her car. Of course, if she ever gets into a situation where she becomes so successful she begins to lose her freedom, don't be surprised to see her walk away from it all. I've also seen some similar posts, and I'd like to share with everyone what I've said to a few angels. However, I would much rather see that person recognize the value in the group's *values*, and make a few minor adjustments to fit in. **************************************************************************** * If we did ignore Ed, or just drive him out, or worse yet, ban him from the list, then it would be our loss as much as his. I value Ed's views; and would like for him, as well as all members, to be able to freely voice any point of view. If we succedded in driving him out, and then others like him, then we would loose a lot of the diversity that makes the group as wonderful as it is... **************************************************************************** * That is why I took the time to try and explain why he should modify his language, rather than just deleting the thread. If we want to encourage everyone to say what they think, then we do need to be willing to give them some leeway . . . he just took too much in this instance. As a footnote, I was very sad to hear that Ed was banned from the list earlier today. I felt that I had failed in what I tried to accomplish, and the group had lost a little piece of what it is. Read on! :-) Hi Everyone, Its time for the next installment from my pages of notes from this past Saturday. While we were talking about the delay on Jewel's new album, I asked Lenedra whether Jewel had ever decided on a title. She told me that all the titles Jewel was considering this past summer (& were mentioned at Jewelstock) had been discarded with the passing of time. I figured that the title must be "up in the air" then. Lenedra then told me that Jewel had written a new song that will probably be the "title track" on the new album. The name of this song is "Fritz Creek Store". Fritz Creek Store was a log cabin/store that was nearest to the homestead in Homer, Alaska where Jewel grew up. It was the closest place that they could purchase supplies etc. Lenedra told me that one of the reasons that this song is such a strong contender for "title track" (besides being a great song, of course) is that they have the perfect picture for the cover! It's a photo of Jewel & her brother posing under the large Fritz Creek Store sign when she was just 4 years old. She told me that Jewel is hamming it up & sticking out her bare belly & that the picture is absolutely adorable. :-) I could tell by the tone of her voice, that she loves the song & the photo, so unless something else amazing comes along, thats the likely scoop on the album title. I told you its gonna be fun news from here on out! :-) Still a lot more about new projects yet to come. I I, as well, haven't made any such mistaks on purpose. I can, however, recall the single worst culinary experience of my life which no ammount of brushing could help. (Not for the faint at stomach.)... I came out to the kitchen in the middle of the night, very thirsty and a little hungry. So I reached in the fridge for the pitcher of Lemonade and started to gulp some down. After the first few gulps, I realized that something was wrong, *very* wrong and I started to gag. I ran over to the sink & started to hurl. It turns out that my mom had finished off the Lemonade earlier that evening, and after washing it, used the empty pitcher to hold some !!CHICKEN LARD!!, and separate it from her broth! My stomach still rumbles when I think about it now. The only other thing that comes close (but still wasn't as bad) comes from my Naval Academy days. As a plebe, everyone is required to drink a "beat army!" to show their spirit during the week before the Army/Navy game. The upperclassmen generally put anything and everything in these glasses of joy. Tobasco, salad dressing, peanut butter, salt, pepper, egg, katsup, yogurt, and anything else handy. In general, the more they dislike you, the worse they are. Since I was about the biggest screw-up . . . mine were really bad, but still not as bad as the chicken lard. Hope this was somewhat amusing to you all and not a waste of bandwidth. L8er. I was watching the Asian Channel [V] yesterday, and [V]J Trey was presenting the US Billboard Countdown, and he goes through the albums ('at #16 is "Pieces of You" by Jewel, and at #17...'), and then through the singles, when he reaches #9 ('this next clip is called "You Were Meant For Me", and it's by a singer called Jewel, who's one in a long line of great American female singers, which include others such as Joan Baez and Suzzanna Hoffs (sp?), and, well, here it is'). I couldn't believe how quickly I found a video cassette, inserted it to the VCR, found the remote, and got it to record :-). It was the Sean Penn version (it said so on the subtitles), and it was a really great feeling. Now I just have one question (don't worry, I'm sure I'll find others): why is the song cut? I started to sing along, with the clip, still high from the fact that Her Jeweliness has opted to appear on my TV screen, when the chorus arrives, and most of it simply isn't there. I replayed the clip several times to make sure (all right, 'cause it was great to see it over and over again, but also to make sure) it's not there, and it was absent every single time. I think it is time that everybody just relax. There are some simple things that everybody must understand: 1) Jewel is clearly not a sellout. If you say she is because she is trying to get money, you are clearly wrong, because singing is her JOB! She does it because she loves to do it and because people pay her money. If this wasn't the case, then most of us would never have heard of Jewel. 2) The Delayed Album thing. Just everybody stay cool. "What is Fonzie?" "Fonzie is cool." "So stay cool." It will happen when it happens. Relax. I think that the longer we wait, the better the album will be. Oh ya, I think we all must stop being selfish, because let Jewel do what is best for her. I This is the infamous John(?) Patino version, which reason for existance I can only guess is that sombody thought it flowed better for radio/video. I haven't heard of anybody that likes it better that the un-cut version. I mean, it was the very line they cut (Dreams last so long, eeeven after your gone) that grabbed my heart and pulled me into Jewel's music. It's a shame that is the version that they have decide to show in Israel. Hello all! I don't listen to alot of music, but when I heard her on the radio I just had to have her CD so I could hear it anytime I want (I don't even have a decent stereo; I play the CD thru my computer). :) Anyway, The song, "You Were Meant For Me", is a different version on the radio than it is on the CD. Is this related to the previous JC question? Two things I notice about the radio version: after (I think) the first verse, there's a noise that almost sounds like two recordings were spliced together. It could, of course, be the station's equipment or perhaps a defect on the CD. Does anybody else hear that? Also, in the chorus at the end of the song, she sings "....and soon you will see...." The part is not on the CD. Since I know all of us will be giving our best wishes to Jewel on grammy night, how about we put our wishes on paper. I am proposing having each EDA write down their good luck wishes. I am going to Jewel's last show before the Grammy's. If all EDAs interested in giving their good luck wishes to Jewel will e-mail them to me with Good Luck or Grammy in the subject. I will bind these into a book and give them to Jewel. I think that this is a good idea and I hope alot of you will agree. I am hoping to get at least 50% of the EDAs to participate. So send in your poems your prayers or whatever you want. The main thing is to get them to me by Feb. 22. If you're worried about me seeing the letters don't be. I am not going to be reading them, I will just be organizing them. Talk to you soon. Yesterday, February 4 1997, at 7:00 PM IST two Yas'ur class military helicopters, carrying 73 men, 8 crew and the rest soldiers, collided en route to an operation in the south of Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of all passengers. Among these men was Lieutenant Kobi Ben-Shem, aged 20, who lived in Ramat Hasharon, my home town. He graduated from my high school one year ahead of me. During his senior year, on top of the normal problems everyone has when approaching the exams, he had to cope with the loss of his mother. Despite this, he did well on the exams, and had a bright future ahead of him. He joined the army, as all Israelis are required to do, and in spite of the possibility of spending his three year service doing nothing of significense, he chose to serve his country to the best of his ability, and went to an active service on the northern border of our country. He went through boot-camp, as well as through an officers' course, and was assigned a unit. I did not know him that well, but he was a familiar face. I remember the proud look on his face when he came over to the school for a visit, telling everyone that "he's an officer now". He had a good, kind soul. He is no more. None of the casualties yesterday were relatives of mine. They were all my brothers. May their memory be blessed.
