It was absolutely beautiful in the sense of Jewel's own definition, "Beauty is that which rekindles the soul." My soul was definitely rekindled by her. She seemed to decide to sing it slower right at the last second. There was this almost imperceptable hesitation just before she started to sing, and then the tempo seemed slower than her lead-in. The song took so long that my local station never came back to the show. They just started the Late Late Show. The choice of song was a surprise, and I the way she sang it was not. She's always playing with the tempo of her songs. I kind of like that. You never know what she's going to do next. All together, Jewel was spectacular. Now for Dave. Dave is Dave. He has always done his wacky bits with the audience with out regard to who is to follow. This is why many people watch him. That's why I used to watch him, but I got tired of it. I don't think he's going to change. As for walking off stage immediatly after he says good'bye, this is standard for him, also. He rarely sticks around to interact with guests. They made me wasted a whole hour just so I could see 3 minutes of Jewel. Well, she was amazing though, as always. I have a suggestion for Dave: people want to see the guests, not the audience. Actually, that's not a suggestion, it's a statement. Oh well. In case anyone was wondering, we don't have the strap here anymore. Did anyone notice there were 3 Canadians on the show last night. There was Michelle from Kelowna, Paul(of course), and Matthew Perry. And they all wasted Jewel's time! Obviously, Paul has to be there, and Mathew Perry was a guest, but Michelle was just wasting a whole lotta time. Does anyone really care about some student from Canada? No! I wanna see Jewel! Now I feel motivated to add my 2 cents; not a flame really. Jewel did not sound pretentious as was suggested, however that Jon Stewart interview sucked largely because of the interviewer. He made no attempt to calm her obvious nervousness, and never NEVER let her finish a sentance or a thought!! And to add to the insulting disrespect he wanted to hear her yodel; I mean is that was she is a dancing bear to amuse the masses? Or is she a serious budding artist the is building a large contingent of appreciating "followers". She is more than her songs and her philosophy of positivism: she is the beginning of a phenomenon; she links the optimism and idealism of the 60s and represents a post generation-x. I am old enough to remember the late 60s and the hope of a new nonmaterialistic approach, Jewel obviously cares about herself and encourages others not to abandon childhood dreams - Live Your Dream! Well are there thoughts on what Jewel will 'manifest' in the next 2 years. God I hope she gets a better forum than immature TalkShows. She is not a freak of nature, I think she is a voice from our own future. Worthy of respect and praise...Jewel, welcome to our lives! Holyoke show Hi Angels I just wanted to pass along some details on the Mt. Holyoke show. It is at Chapin Hall on the 20th of Feb. Tickets went on sale today. The number for tickets is 1-800-477-6849. This is Protix. I got my tickets earlier today and the service charge was only $2.00 including shipping and handling. Not bad at all. The seating is general admission, which got me thinking this would be a great place for an EDA gathering. If your going to the show e-mail me and I'll update you when I get a plan set up. Good lck on getting tickets. Talk to you soon. Many of Letterman's and Leno's shows end with their guest singer doing only their song with no pre-song or post-song interview. It would be nice if they gave them a few minutes. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Jan 1997 15:23:17 -0500 From: MPELLERI@mailgw.sanders.lockheed.com Subject: Re: NJC: Toad the Wet Sprocket I went to a Toad the wet Sprocket concert in Boston With Rusted Root as the opening act. Jacalne) Subject: NJC Dave Bashing Hey there, Puh-lease people, all this talk about how Dave was rude to the point that he should get flamed is sooo undeserving. I suggest all of you who taped the show to take the opportunity to watch it again. Dave was nothing less then a gentleman to Jewel. Don't blame Dave about the time constraints imposed on his or any other show. And all of those people complaining about no interview have probably never seen a Letterman show before. He hardly ever interviews his musical guests. Case in point, the night before he had Tori Amos on. Although he is an avid Tori fan, there was no interview. He also likes Hootie and the Blowfish and Blues Traveler, but when they appear on his show, he doesn't sit them down for a Q & A. Unlike Leno, he doesn't invite his musical guests to the couch after their performance for some chit-chat. Only when Dave books his guests for two spots (meaning that person is a regular guest and is also the musical performer for the night) does he actually have a conversation with them. Examples which come to mind are Madonna, Cher, and Harry Connick, Jr. And to say that Dave does not manage time well on his show is an understatement. If he really likes the guest he is interviewing, he'll have no qualms to bump the person in the third spot. I believe he did it to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Someone mentioned that Dave was rude for just walking away and leaving Jewel on her seat. That's Dave. As the credits were rolling, he gave Jewel a handshake and some acknowledgements, stood up and took off his jacket and walked away. He does this every single time. Watch the Tori tape, watch the show from the night before, a show from the year before, a show from NBC. That's just Dave. It's been said that Dave is only happy when the cameras are on, other then that he's usually a neurotic wreak, so there was no reason for him to hang around. "Another show just ended, another show to prepare for." To ask Dave or any other person to change his ways or compromise himself just for the sake of Jewel is simply unfair. She may be the center of your universe, but she isn't the center of his or THE universe. Jeth "In this reflection even angel's fall...
