During the Demo Convention several of us were able to chat with Jewel on-line via an AOL chatroom set up for the convention. EDA's were very successful in getting their questions answered, BTW. Anyway, Jewel mention that she had a long conversation with Chelsea at the convention, and they kind of hit if off. So, I can see how Chelsea would be a fan. I was going to post a few days ago asking about a song i had just heard on the radio, i didnt know who sang it and i didnt know the name of the song so i decided not to ask if you guys knew them. well the lyrics went like this "The world is full of stupid people, i got the pistol so i got the pesos, yeah that seems fair" and i had no idea who sang it...well heres where the ironic part comes in, i was in the cd store looking for rugburns stuff, and as per usual they didnt have anything. so i was just looking in the "R" section, and ran across a band called the refreshments...the name sounded corny to me, but i picked it up anyways and the name of the CD was "Fizzy fuzzy big and buzzy" I thought it was a cute name so i bought it...and i listened to it on the way home, after a few songs i was thinking "Hey this Band sounds a hell of a lot like the band that sings the peso song", but i thought i was just being paraniod or something... and i was already in my house by the time the 7th track came so i popped it in my Stereo and continued listening and then i heard "I got the pistol so i get the pesos, yeah that seems fair" and i thought "This cant be right!"..."mabye i left the radio on" but no...It was the CD, i looked at the liner (?) book and it said the song was called "banditos" well i just freaked out because it was just so wierd...any ways i'm happy, Everything worked out to my advantage, and i love these guys. Well i'm coming out of my shell for my second (yes SECOND) post of the day (would you like fries with that?) i just wanted to say i had a very jewely day! I was sitting in math class listening to my rugnurns CD and i heard a really bad version of YWMFM coming from behind me, so i shut my walkman of, and turned around, to find the whole back of the room in a chorus of YWMFM (wrong lyrics but they were trying) they sang "he was meant for me and i was meant for him" but i can forgive that. any ways, as i turned around Mellissa (a very cool girl) asked me if i liked jewel (HA! little does she know) and i of course said that i LOVE her! so she asked if i had jewels tape...I told her i have about 20 concerts...she was impressed and asked if i could make her a tape of YWMFM (because shes only heard it on the radio, and wants a tape) so i said i'll mix her a tape (i think we have a jewel fan in the making)!!! =) Okay, cool think #2! After this happened i put my CD back on and was listening when Erin (a very cool sharon stone look-alike girl ) asked if she could listen to my CD...i Of course said yes, cause i'm always willing to spread a little 'burns. and she listened to the first track and said she loved it, then the babely boy sitting next to us asked if he could listen too, so she fought him of for about 15 minutes, until she had browsed past all the songs (her fave was war, and Old lovers house with the jewel duet) she finally handed it over to him and he listened...he said hed heard of the band, but never heard the music, and he said it sounded good, and wanted me to make him a Rugburns tape...so it looks like its going to be a busy night, making two tapes, but it'll be worth it. =) Wow, i'm getting better at this posting thing! People have been wondering HOW to get to my house. Well, specific directions will be sent to drivers as the date becomes closer, but the general area is this:::: If you are coming from the east or west:: The Ohio Turnpike (I-80) runs within a mile of my house. FYI--The section of the turnpike that runs by my house is a combination of both I-80 and I-90. If you are coming from the north or south:: I-75, 475, and 23 all run near my house. On the map of Ohio, there is a circle of highways that surround Toledo. This circle contains, I-80/90, I-75, and 475/ 23, I live at the southwest corner of this circle, a half of a mile from Maumee. If there are any questions about the GENERAL location of my house please e-mail me at jewelfan1@juno.com. I understand the concept of the seeds and branches. Do the leaves do anything but send the blank tapes? And when do we send the tapes to the branches to get a copy of the tapes? I'm sorry if I'm being stupid, but knowledge can't come before ignorance... thanks for your help - Gene ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jan 1997 17:00:51 -0800 (PST) From: Matt Willcourt Subject: For Your Consideration Well it's nearing Oscar nomination time, and studios are buying full page "For Your Consideration" ads in Variety to promote their actors and actresses for nominations. Does anyone enjoy those ads as much as I do? Anyway, I was thinking, with over 800 members here, what if we each chipped in $5 and purchased a full page "For Your Consideration" ad in Rolling Stone or Spin to promote our Angel's Grammy chances? Too expensive and logistically impossible? Probably. Oh well, it was a cool idea. You can, although you'd probably never know if she accepts. I mean, chelsea@whitehouse.gov is just too easy a target. With that said, the First Daughter may already be on incognito. Were it not for Jewel's Duets with Melissa, I would have gone much longer without discovering her music! Thanks VH1... The Story from Mercury Mail: Several rock stars are trying to prevent the nation's largest cable operator from dropping the VH1 cable music channel from its Denver network. Don Henley, John Mellencamp, Jewel and Tony Rich have agreed to participate in a press conference Wednesday in Denver to help classic-rock radio station KRFX-FM protest TCI's dumping of VH1. TCI, which is based in Englewood, Colo., has encountered much backlash against its recent policy of dropping established networks from its cable systems and replacing them with newer services. Alright, so maybe most of you delete my posts at the sign of my name. I won't pretend I'm happy about that, but I thought I'd post this anyway. Quite a while ago a person associated with this list and a few others picked up some rude comments made about Jewel on another list. In their furry they posted about these antichrists in hopes that we (the EDA's) might come to Jewel's defense. Perhaps it wasn't the smartest thing to do (in fact I'm pretty sure it wasn't), but I responded with out hesitation. More importantly -- without thought. As it turned out the antichrist also happened to be a person (who'd know?) and I ended up apologizing. As did she for her original remark. We talked for quite a few weeks after the fact and even became civil to one another, but as all things do we went our separate ways. Each learning a little something on the way. Today, after a good two months of no communication, I received a message from her. She wanted me to know that she bought the Crossroads album and in particularly enjoyed Foolish Games. So much so that she hardly listened to the Tori Amos track. A big step for her considering she made me buy Tori's album because "I wouldn't even bother with Jewel after hearing her." (actually they're both good, but as I told her -- it just boils down to personal taste -- Jewel is better). So the lesson? Hell, I don't know, Jewel's the best. Even a Tori fan can attest! Anyways, see? I'm not so bad. Maybe you'll think twice before you all delete a message just because it bears my name. -Bruce "I smell good too" bhartford3rd@juno.com - -Bruce bhartford3rd@juno.com ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #40 **************************
