Love Me Just Leave Me Alone by Jewel Kilcher D I saw you standing there G >From your pocket D You combed barbed wire through your hair A You thought I didn't notice D The skin on your teeth had a tear D To make me notice you started to shout G Then you and all your midgets D Started flapping your tiny arms all about A They said you were a wise man D When did they teach wise men to pout? D It's not too little to smile It's not too little to name G It's those big boy hands D That are the ones to blame A I tried to be unlovable D Why couldn't you do the same? A What's the matter? Did your love need a home? G Alright then D Love me just leave me alone Your mother was a wolf bite Your daddy was a cigarette Your brother was a rose bud Crossbred like a car wreck Your sister was a stockbroker But you ain't nothing but a turtleneck You were hypnotized just standing there In the middle of the street You had iron butterflies as kisses You had gold dust in your teeth You used one eye as a hostage The other one to stab your meat I tried to forget you But you had bells to your name And they jingled everytime I thought of you without shame I tried to be unlovable Why couldn't you do the same? Hi angels, Sorry for posting this to the list, but I need some advice. I have been pretty involved with my school's closed circuit radio station. I really like it a lot, especially working with our small soundboard. I am also involved in crew for a few high school musicals. This has got me to thinking...I REALLY enjoy this and I was thinking that I would definitely like to pursue this at a higher level as I get older. (like in college) My goal is to one day work with a sound firm, radio station, or something along those lines. I would like to work on a soundboard doing all that fun technical stuff. (I really do love it!!) I am already going to start working with this; my boyfriend said that I could do the sound for his high school's Battle Of The Bands which he is co-chairing. I am also going to attempt to get on the sound crew for an upcoming musical. Next ('98) summer I plan on attending Interlochen Arts Camp for eight weeks, (I am already saving money!) and majoring in technical theater. I am also going to take a radio class, and acting class on the side. So, anyway, I was wondering if anyone on the list could help guide me in the right path to obtain my goal, such as class suggestions, etc.. Thank you for ANY help. I really appreciate it. I only posted this to the list because I KNOW that there are some of you that are ALREADY involved in this and one day I would like to join your ranks. Since I am a fan of hers too, I was sure to tape it. My video tape isn't that great (my cable reception is unreliable at times), but if anyone still wanted a copy of it I have 2 vcr's and could tape it, or even just tape the songs on an audio tape. First it is simply a dialect. It's no different then people in the midwest saying you bet, people in the south saying ya'all or yumptoo or people in New York saying and their R's. Now I'm not bewildering anyone or region. The article I read said that everyone has some kind of dialect in their vocabulary and that of course steams from the fact that America is the melting pot and with people from all different ethnic backrounds it causes us to have tons of slang (run on, see no one speaks perfect english). Also I read that they tried to do the ebonics thing An Arbor, Michagan in 1979. What happened is that it ended up fizzeling out and nothing big happened. I think what everyone must realize is that the best way to teach them so they succede is force them to use standard english. To succede you must be able to speak and write standard english. And to show that successful african americans don't have to have ebonics is just look at their leaders. The Rev. Dr. Matrin Luther Jr. and the Rev. Jesse Jackson speak fine english and they are very successful. I'm still not sure if it's entierly a good idea but if it works well I guess you should go with it. bruce ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Jan 1997 21:36:10 -0800 From: bruce Subject: ebonics Recentaly I did a speech on ebonics and this is what I found out. DUNCAN SHEIK i was in DC for the weekend and i found a Duncan Sheik promo disc called "AT THE RESERVOIR: a Live E.P." Atlantic PRCD 6902-2. this disc is very cool!!! 1. the end of outside 2. in the absence of the sun 3. rubbed out (non-album track) 4. home 5. barely breathing 6. she runs away 7. fake plastic trees (non-album track) [this a cover of a Radiohead tune] total time is approx. 35 mins i would say that this disc would be Duncan's equivalent of Save the Linoleum. this disc was recorded Live in France at Le Reservoir. i bought the disc at Phantasmagoria on Connecticut Ave at Dupont Circle in DC. this store had a bunch of Spew promos as well, including Spew U w/ Tori's cover of "a case of you" i initially bought the Duncan Sheik Disc as trade bait. but when i listened to it, i was very impressed. i didn't see Duncan live when he toured with Jewel. i had only heard his album and thought it was pretty good. but now i am very impressed by his live work i may consider trading this disc or selling it if someone makes an amazing offer :) FIONA APPLE today i saw Fiona Apple's CD Tidal advertised for $6.99 at Circuit City. LAUNCH i also saw Launch #10 advertised at Best Buy for $6.99 the Tower Records in DC had plenty of copies of Launch #9 featuring Jewel. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Dave DiCicco peaches@dmapub.dma.org "Innocence Maintained" is a moderated, news only email list providing its subscribers with timely information about Jewel Kilcher.
