Okay, well the first time i read this article i also thought it was making fun of her, but there really not. To many people calling her an alanis-ite maight seem like a dis, but it was actually a compilment. To most people alanis is sort of symbolizing women in rock. And when they say"....Pout over such malleable soundscapes that trends hardly matter" they are sayiong that the girls are singing about things that (gasp) actually matter...not just complaining about trends that will dispear (ie no longer matter) in a few years. so thats what i got out of this article, but since the spin writers feel that they must use big words that by most people anyways cant be understood, i suggest reading this over a few times to fully understand what they are saying. thirza "naked is a state of mind"-lucious jackson Classic dialog: Thirza:I'm tired eda unknown: YOU...TIRED??? wait, let me check...yup, just as i thought...It _IS_ a cold day in hell. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Jan 1997 20:11:50 -0500 (EST) From: BaldAndy@aol.com Subject: Oh geez.. the pray for Jewel thing > > > > Dear Fellow Angels, > > > > Let us all pray for Jewel in hope that her sucess lives on! Folks like Preacher for Jewel who leave a bad taste in your mouth don't speak for everybody. I'm a Christian, have been nearly all my life, plan to preach or write christian essays or something. Anyway, it's occured to me that religon has rubbed Jewel the wrong way, and I guess that's cause they were Mormon (for a while at least "my daddy got ex-communicated from the Mormon church"), which is a really difficult religon to understand, especially for children. I think that religon, the institution, is what gets people down. Anyway, before I offend anyone.. just let me say that the beliefs themselves are what's important, and all the good stuff you get from what is essentially a friendship is way better than the junk about religon that brings folks down. Hope I've chipped away at a stereotype maybe just a little... I'd love to answer anyone's questions or even participate in an good 'ol, open-hearted, good minded (oops, strike that, reverse it) debate.. My search has taken me far and wide, to five different states with people on other mailing lists looking overseas for what they can find, and it has been, for the most part, fruitless. Somebody posted to the list last week about having a promotional poster or something, and told me that the bidding was at $50... Whatever. I have also seen small POY promo posters but the music stores are supposed to destroy them but I'd guess they go to employees that want them. In sum, I haven't seen anything that I can buy at my local poster shop, and I've asked about ordering and was once told, "We can't order any, but as soon as we find some to order, we will." - - todd ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Jan 1997 22:33:54 -0700 (MST) From: Chopped Liver Subject: JC: Electronic Media: Jewel in Altenative World I haven,t seen this before, but Jewel is pretty prominant in Alternative World (http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/8997/).
